  • How does this compare with the Sonoff S20? I've been using the Sonoffs for a while and they work very well.

I can't compare to the Sonoff as I don't have any (yet) but my original Broadlink SP mini's are okish.. they function correctly 95% of the time but that isn't really good enough for my purposes so I use them on less important stuff. Also one of them tries to phone home once or twice per second. I'd pay the extra for the Sonoff if they are working for you.

One feature that I find frustrating is the safety 'doors' on the two active prong slots. Earthed Chinese sockets tend to have a long earth pin, which activates the doors.

To insert an Australian two pin plug, you need to insert an insulated stick of some sort into the earth hole to release the doors before inserting the plug. Make sure you're not watched by children who might be tempted to stick things in other per sockets though.

Three pin Australian plugs have to be forced in at an angle to get the doors for the active pins to release before the plug will go in the rest of the way.

Out of interest, has anyone tried checking out yet to see if GST is being charged during the checkout process?

rather unplug the switch then insert something in to open the door.

DD4 don't seem to be complying with border GST collection. If a tax component is not in the checkout options, you will face the GST impost at the border.

12.15 becomes $13.37 per unit + GST impost cost

@Joyee - does the price include GST? Hoping it does as its a good price if GST included.

    • I wasn't aware of the GST imposition at the border. Do you have a reference? My understanding is that foreign sellers are only meant to register and collect GST if they turnover more than $75,000 in sales to Australia. However, that raises the question as to how the ATO verify this and enforce it, so a border collection makes sense, I just haven't heard of it.

      • That's a good question actually; I always presumed it was legislated for July 1, but it's not. There were arguments over who should collect the GST in terms of an impost but from what I've read from the Dept of Foreign Affairs, GST impost will only apply to orders over $1k still. I take back my previous point. It's not happening … yet; so GST isn't a factor for DD4. src: https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/Customsnotices/Documents/home…

    • you will face the GST impost at the border.

No you won't. Because they can't confirm where it came from and whether or not they collect GST.

  • Maximum wattage: 2200W

Yeah no thanks. I'll stick with the HS100 for $20.

    • where is the HS100 for $20. Got a link

      • It was on here the other day.
