  • Bought a macpac downs jacket about 1-2 years ago. Like many have said, it’s a solid jacket and no jokes about keeping you warm, it gets so hot for me I have to take it off a couple times a day to prevent me sweating in it.

    • Is this during the Winter? (i.e how many degrees outside)? I tend to do this on heavier jackets so I'm contemplating to get this. I do need a warmer jacket but I like to walk and afraid I'll just be sweating in this

      • The jacket is great for keeping me warm outside (when it’s about 12 degrees-ish outside), I live in Melbourne, so it’s great for those windy days. I’ll probably start sweating in this if I wore it out on a walk though. I even have to take it off and on when I’m in the car too long. It might be just me though…

Yeah I'm in Melbourne too. I'm happy with my jackets so far as I tend to get warm as I walk. Thinking to get a warmer jacket because of last week's Melbourne chilly winter (but this week is fine). I guess the macpac downs will be too hot for me then unless if I stand/sit still

  • I wish they applied same discount to the hooded one

  • What's something cheap and useful I can get to bump my order over $100 for the free shipping?

  • yeah these are the real deal, I actually enjoy the sizing running big if I'm moving a fair bit. (6ft/76kgs Med)

whats a good size for someone 172cm and medium build?

    • I'm that height and i normally fit a medium, but i ended up getting an XS ha ha. My wife said that looked a bit big on me as well!

  • Thanks.

I just walked into a store today and grabbed one. Nice jacket. I'm 6" 92kgs and whilst a medium was good I liked the extra space of the large. So that's what I grabbed.

  • Unfortunately that Navy Blue is not available anywhere except a few shops in Adelaide and one more city I was told. Had to settle down with Black. Yes, they do run a little larger. Best to try your size in store. Must be other Ozbargainer that was after the same thing :P

Mind you it is only $40 savings, my invoice says $99, saving $40. So $139 is the regular price.

    • +2

I was eyeing this jacket a few days ago and the 'sale' price was $140. So this is a further reduction on the 'sale' price. Glad I waited. Usually sold for more than $140.

  • Uniqlo Mens Down Jacket (with hood) is also on sale for $99 free shipping. I got one of these when i moved to Canberra, and it keeps me pretty warm on my commute to work in the Mornings and Night. The hood and fake fur are detachable if they don't suit your style. The pockets are really nice as they have both a button closeable pocket and side pockets to put your hands in.

  • Is anyone else struggling with order confirmation?

Paid and POOF! Transaction complete (took screenshot), money taken form account, but I have yet to receive an order confirmation.

Keen to hear if anyone else is experiencing the same.

    Cheers.

  • Add a Mini Biner to qualify for free shipping (minimum spend $100)

  • Where can you try these on?
    What stores stock them?

    • No Regional Store
So bad luck if you live outside a Cap City

  • This price is available in store as well. I can confirming sizing is large, I am a 3XL for everything and a 2XL was fine. See how it does at the footy tonight!

    • Thank you mate, im the same

    • How does sleeve length go with these jackets ?
Normally I go 3xl/4xl so there`s enough length in the sleeve.

      • Long enough to not require gloves, no jokes. Fairly long.

  • MacPac stores. I just got one from Fountain Gate and they had plenty of stock.

  • Plenty of stock in stores in all colours.

I couldn't decide between small fitted & medium looser for layering but longer sleeves, normally wear M-L clothing (5"11/83kg)

I don't normally wear down jackets and they feel so warm that layering might not be needed in Melbourne? The shop assistant said that being looser can reduce the effect of the down jacket too.

They are really high quality, I'm impressed, maybe should get 2!

      Get the small
For melbourne winters if you're layering you'll bee too hot

      • Cheers for the advice!

      • +1

Yep, unless you're planning on going places with sub-zero temperatures, then you're not going to be layering that much anyway.

Even if you go the fitted, you should be able to layer thermals under a regular shirt, and that will cover you pretty far!

      • +1

Agreed for small for your size

        • +1

yep got the S - it's perfect, surprisingly warm for something that doesn't look that thick.

Can't believe I ever considered the M lol

Dropped in to the Melbourne City Macpac store and witnessed the power of Ozbargain in action.
Heaps of people heading in to look at one thing - the $99 Halo down jacket advertised on Ozbargain.
Poor staff looked frazzled but still very friendly.
Picked up a men's S size for myself.
Only black and light blue available.

  • 5'6", size 42 normal shirt size…checst 107cm…should I order a small here going by the above remarks? is the sizing larger thank usual in woman's section too?

    • Yes. Small size should fit you. Can't comment on women's sizing.

      • Thanks mate

  • +1

    Any idea when sale ends?

    • 16th july for Halo

  • Anyone here have the extra small? I'm asian, 174cm and about 64 kg. Size 38 shirt. I normally wear medium size clothing so i got small but feel like its too big (especially the arms, they are baggy). Will probably exchange for xs tommorow.

    • I'm Asian, 174cm and 73kg,and have the x-small (initially bought the Small and changed size), so I'm confident it'll fit you just fine

      • Awesome. Thanks for replying.

  • Actually felt halo too hot so bought a uber light which appears more useful for regular use..it was $109.95 , not sure what others think

    • Thinking?
      On our wages?

Hey guys check out my posted deal, which I feel offers better value than the macpac (shock horror)

I went to the store in Town Hall and tried this on today. It was so warm I had to take it off in the shop after 1 minute. Plus one of the salespeople was really cute. We need a "I may have been influenced by the hot salesperson" button in addition to the "I am associated with COMPANY" button.

  • Ozbargain Macpac meetup at Jindabyne?

  • How does this compare to the Pataonia Mesn Down Sweater?
    https://www.patagonia.com.au/collections/jacket-vest-mens/pr…

They use a 800 fill power.

    • That is a much thinner jacket (I believe the fill weight is 85g, vs ~200g in the Halo). The warmth per weight will be higher on the Patagonia due to the high fill power, but the Halo will be warmer, due to have more than double the fill.

The Patagonia is much thinner and lighter. It will also compress to a higher degree (a smaller proportion of its initial size), and is water resistant. Patagonia is also a much better brand.

For price and overall warmth though, the Halo is tough to beat.

      • Thanks for the comparison!

Thinking of keeping the Patagonia cuz i like how it compresses to be the size of a tissue box. Also I hate being hot, so just need enough to keep me warm enough.

Managed to snag one during EOFY sales + 20% myer off, so the hooded version of the Patagonia came down to $230.

Just wondering, cuz i haven't taken it out for a spin in-case something nicer comes along i can always return the Patagonia. haha!

        • The Patagonia is definitely a great jacket! If I could afford it, I would probably get one of those, but alas, the ozbargainers uniform Halo down will have to do me! :P

For Melbourne weather, the Patagonia would be plenty warm! Halo is probably overkill.

        • That's a good price, when'd you get that deal?

      • "Patagonia is also a much better brand."

        An interesting view.

What do you base it on?

  • Has anyone else had issues with their order? I still haven’t received it yet! Purchased on 5th of July and no confirmation email from Macpac. I received a paypal receipt for the purchase and emailed it to Macpac no response.

    • They have contact numbers on their webpage but hang on a mo…….

You've been way too patient, so get on the blower
