    Good to see a better vice. I have broken three of the adjustible vices and have been waiting for a better priced fixed Vice. This is it.

    How does this compare to GTA Vice City

    • +1

      Both are inferior to the Crockett and Tubbs.

      • Don't tell me i'm the only one who googled in search of the Crockett and Tubbs vice?

    ALDI catalogue must be out…

  • Not Aldi. Total Tools and Bunnings have undercut them by $0.10. If I needed one I would not be going to Bunnings.

    • Why not buy from Bunnings?

      It's the same thing isn't it?

        Bunnings gouge you at every opportunity. They are not generally cheap for anything. The good discounts are usually when other retailers have sales and Bunnings have a short special so they do not get caught on their price guarantee. My experience of Total Tools is good advice and service with regular genuine specials.Total Tools will match on price.

        • Oh, thanks.

          Never been to Total Tools - they're not super close to me, but i might pay them a visit.

    What is the difference between a bench vice and an engineers bench vice? Just the degree?

    • Just a guess, but I would imagine its the screw mechanism. I would expect the engineers vice to be of a lower incline, making it a more robust precise grip, but taking longer to setup and to loosen.

    • "… engineers bench vice?" Good question - so I Googled it. Key elements:-

      • sometimes called a 'metalwork vice';
      • designed with strengthened steel or cast iron to resist blows etc;
      • sits proud of bench-top vs 'woodworking vice' where the top of the clamp sits below/flush with the bench-top;
      • jaws hardened to grip on metal = may scratch timber;
      • may include an anvil section at rear;

    Is this a decent bench vice to get for this price point? I am looking for one just for home use and don't want to spend heaps just for occasion use and don't want a cheap and nasty either.

  • How do you attach them to a bench?

    • +1

      Bolts.

      That's what the open hole (if that makes sense) on each side are for.

    • Spit.

      • I was wondering if I should use another vice.
