Melbourne to Prague, Czech Republic from $867 Return on China Eastern, Dates in Oct-Nov, @ FlightScout

160

Amazingly cheap price on China Eastern to Prague.

"The city's historic buildings and narrow, winding streets are testament to its centuries-old role as capital of the historic region of Bohemia. Prague lies on the banks of the beautiful, meandering Vltava River that reflects the city's golden spires and 9th century castle that dominates the skyline.

This historic atmosphere is combined with a certain quirkiness that embraces the entire city. From the Museum of Czech Cubism to the technicolor Jubilee Synagogue; the castle to the river, Prague is a bohemian capital in every sense. " - wikivoyage

  • Great price to visit a great city - was there in Feb. and loved it!

    • Isn’t it cold during that time?

      • +1

        Not inside my jacket.

  • Great city indeed. Just got back from Prague. Very nice city. Friendly people. Good food. Affordable prices.

I recommend people try Czech beer or trdelnik.

    • +1

Indeed, try as much beer as possible, but the trdelnik is not Czech.

Note that you'll require a Chinese visa since this includes a domestic leg from Shanghai to Xi'an which the visa free arrangement at Shanghai airport cannot cover you for.

Time to pull out my Chinese passport from the bottom of the drawer…

    • good tip.
do you have 2 passports? I believed that China doesn't allow dual-nationalites by law.

  • Prague is an overrated tourist trap. Much better places to visit in Europe. It also seems like it's somewhat stuck in the Soviet era. Local food is also very avg unless you like goulash and pork knuckles. A short trip to Karlovi Vari will take you to a nicer Czech/russian town.
Oh yea don't get me started on the trdelnik crap. Old city is nice but again huge t trap. Can do the whole thing in a day.

      Someone's grumpy…

      • Not really… as someone who has travelled all over Europe and can compare I am providing my opinion. If you just want to tick it off your list then go for it but e.g. why would I go to Prague if I can goto Barcelona, amsterdam, paris, rome budapest …

        • +1

Fair. I disagree, but fair. Prague is way better than a "tick it off your list" city. Just avoid Charles Bridge/the Square at anything other than the crack of dawn and you'll be fine. But ymmv, clearly. Love those other cities you mentioned also.

    • Yes, I was there in May and I tend to agree. Unfortunately the city has fallen victim to its own popularity. It's so over run with tourists it feels more of a theme park than an historic city.

Thats not to say it shouldn't be done, particularly at this price, but 2 to 3 days max IMHO will surfice.

Not to beat a dead horse, but October/Nov will be somewhat quieter. I could spend weeks in Prague but it kind of depends what your interests are. If you're interested in History/Art etc Prague is an A+, but then so are a lot of other cities in Europe. You can of course always train it elsewhere (Munich, Berlin, Krakow, Salzburg, for instance), but man the local trains in Czech Republic are sloooow!

        • +1

Indeed, if you can cope with the sheer volume of tourists, and or, you haven't seen much (or any) of other parts of Europe you could spend weeks there.

It is stunningly beautiful under any measure.

    • I went there for snow boarding a few years back, accom + rental fees + ski passes + transfers + food was about 50 euros a day

Flight full of Chinese ppl? No offense..

    • In my experience, flights are a mix of nationalities, but of course, the majority will be Chinese nationals.

    • +1

Better than a flight full of bogans…

  • Lived there for two years on the street with the most pubs. Legendary places I dare not mention.

Took me months to accept the price of beer back in oz.

    • +1

Which street is this? I lived in Zizkov for a year 10 years ago, great suburb. Met my wife there.
Czech beer is still my fav

      • aahh you got it

        Bořivojova, in zizkov

        • haha i was living and working in a hostel on Bořivojova. The clown and bard.
