    Good price for that capacity.

Just remember with rear-vented units like this one that you are continually losing about 1/2 of the 12,000 BTU of cooling straight out the window!

They suck your freshly-cooled room air in to cool the internal heat exchanger, and then pump that (now hot) air out the window vent. They probably only provide 1/2 the real-world cooling capacity of a proper window or split system of similar rating.

  • The price is not that competitive, especially after you add $50 delivery charge. Also will require a special fitting (bracket) to get the exhaust through the window, which will set you back by even more money.

    • even if you buy from outside any another brand which will cost you about $399+ with btht you also need to buy fittings as per your needs i think that will cost u even.

    • You don't need to buy anything else LOL.

All it's telling you is that you need a WINDOW to vent the OUTPUT hose out to!

So what is the real cooling power, 12000 BTU/h or 1.5 HP? The former works out to about 3.3 kW and the latter about 1.1 kW. Both BTU/h and HP by the way are old fashioned non-SI units which should not be used any more. Do you even know what those figures mean?

And 3.2 kW (not kWh) of consumption for 3.3 kW of cooling is really inefficient. Mine draws 1.5 kW for 3.5 kW of cooling. Better pay more for a good model and save money on electricity.

    • 12,000 BTU/h (British Thermal Units) is the OUTPUT. 3.412 BTUs equal a watt, so 12,000 BTU/h is about 3,517 Watts (3.5kW) of COOLING power

1.5 HP is the INPUT power, the amount of electricity it draws. 1 horsepower = 745 watts, so it draws about 1,117 Watts.

Not sure where you get the 3.2kW, or where COTD get 3.2kWh. But this one is SIGNIFICANTLY MORE efficient than greenpossums' (which has an efficiency of 3.5kW/1.5kW = 2.33) because it's got an efficiency of 3.5kW/1.12kW = 3.125.

So, greenpossum would save money on electricity by getting this one.

      • It says 3.2 kW consumption in the description. It doesn't say what the 1.5 HP refers to. You assumed it was the input power. It could be or not. If it is, it would conflict with the 3.2 kWh claim.

lol no thanks, another COTD fail.

i have one like this, its garbage. only cools the room by a few degrees. been on for 5 hours already..

  • when it comes to cooling & whitegoods, stick with name brands folks.

you pretty much always get what you pay for for important items like this, and if you ever need to repair them service people wont touch them unless they know the brand.

plus- very hard claiming warranties when you cant go back to the shopfront claiming a dodgy product.

I wont neg just because its COTD, thats UNFAIR.
Instead negs given to those above who didnt justify their neg and just negged like lemmings because others did (legitimate negs got a plus vote), but for the price I think this item is a bargain. I wouldnt buy it personally, but for a price point it meets a certain market segment. I too have seen Samsung going cheap in the past, but none of my local stores have them anymore. If I wanted a cooler 'today', this would have to be cheapest I've seen.

There is quite a spread in performance between the cheapo brands and the name brands, look at the tests Choice did recently.

If you are going to buy an obscure brand, at least get it through Aldi where you have 60 days to return it. But that's no help for people sweltering in this heat wave here. Just wait for the cool change later today. :(
