Just insert a capsule and close the lever — when activated, the capsule spins up to 7,000 rotations per minute, blending ground coffee with water and producing the perfect crema to enjoy quality coffee in larger cup sizes. The machine delivers the optimal in-cup results for each blend using capsule-specific brewing with barcode reading.

  • No cash back at the moment otherwise very cheap.

  • I don't know why they couldn't make these new pod machines backwards compatible. I guess they want to change the pod so they can trademark them again.

95c a pod, holy shit. Classic loss leader scenario here.

Not to be an elitist (profanity) or anything, but if you're in the market for a coffee machine that will get a decent amount of use, I'd highly recommend looking into a whole bean coffee machine, if you can afford the initial cost.

You don't have to go nuts on the beans, supermarket beans will make a delicious cup of coffee in a decent machine and you can usually pick some up for around $15-20 a kilo (there's always at least one brand on sale at Colesworth). At that price, you're looking at about 12-15c per coffee, rather than 95c for a pod. If you (and possibly a partner) are having daily coffees, the savings will add up and a whole bean machine will cost less in the long run.

I too agree with your cost analysis. Also, the guy that invented the 'pod' apparently has said that he regrets the invention from an environmental point of view as you can only use the pod once and then you toss all the paper and plastic into the bin probably to float about in the ocean at some point in the future. He was looking at biodegradable options but hasn't been successful obviously cause I haven't seen them?
