I bought this during the last deal - it is a magic bit of kit and I love it. I would never spend 2g on a thermo - but this is a great price for a great price of equipment

    • Good to hear, I don't wanna spend 2k on a thermo either so decided to bite the bullet and buy this one instead! :)

    • Any recommendations on where to start (other than the manual) for meals etc?

      • it comes with a cookbook with a whole bunch of starters, mains and desserts

      • +1

It is a chopper/mixer/crusher/blender that cooks at a high temp that is timed. I use ours a lot for:

        1. Soups: just whack in the veggies (i prefer potatoes or broccoli/parmesan or sweet potato/pumpkin) and the stock and turn the soup function. It'l cook it all up and whizz it in the last few minutes to make it nice and smooth. Delicious

        2. Curries: Add in whatever you need. I chop onions in it, fry it off with garlic and spices, and my curry sauce and meat let it cook

        3. Steaming: It comes with a steamer on top which I have steamed fish and other proteins in

I am probably underusing it - but i only got it during the last deal - and having kids it is a god send - cause i don't have to watch it.

      • This book is great to start with… http://shinewithyourcuisinecompanion.com/shine-with-your-cui…

Also there are a few facebook groups for recipes and ideas.

You can convert thermomix recipes for the CC easily.

  • Has anyone who's used a Thermomix also used one of these?
And can tell us how they compare?

For cooking I actually prefer the cuisine companion….the thermomix tends to "mush" food into baby food if you don't cut meat etc big enough. The steam attachment is more practical than the TM one, and there is also a food processor attachment that you can buy. The thermomix is better if you wish to "mill flour" or make nuts into flour. The TM is more blender shaped with blender blades…the CC is styled more along the lines of a food processor.
At this price, I would be buying one if I didn't already have one….I thought about getting one as a spare, but I'm still hoping they will bring the bigger model in. I have been able to cook everything from my TM books in the cuisine companion, you need to add 2 or 3 to the speed and add a little time to the cooking.

Is this the attachment you were referring to?

        • +2

Yes. I was a bit doubtful when I first bought it….but it actually works really well. Fantastic for slicing onions etc straight into the bowl to then saute them. Works well on zucchini etc as well.

I have both… I prefer the thermomix, mainly because it has a stronger motor and it has built in scales, but in saying that, the CC is a lot quieter. I find the CC takes slightly longer to cook compared to the thermomix due to the larger based bowl design.
I find the CC bowl with the white plastic handles is hard to keep clean when cooking with strong coloured foods such as tomatoes etc.

But, for this price, it's well worth it.

For those interested in this, Harvey Norman and Joyce Mayne are currently in the process of running out Tefal goods as their agreement to sell them has ended. While I don't think you'll get a better price on the Cuisine Companion itself, there are likely still a few stores selling the steamer accessory, the food processor attachment and the spare bowls at 50% off or better.

    • Good tip. Has anyone checked any stores yet?

      • +1

We checked our local store in Cannington WA and they didn't have them on display but we asked and they said they had a couple at the back. The cheapest they would reduce them to was $99 each for the steamer and the food processor attachments though. We still ended up buying them.
