The Sonos and Wine offer is still going and easily beats this price.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/385274

    • What about those of us who do not drink?
      $10 difference in price?

still a decent price i think if you don't want to buy wine to save.

      • +2

Sell the wine, gift it to a friend, donate it to an office competition, use it in cooking… there's really no reason to buy this for an EXTRA $10 and miss out on extra value…

        • -1

i see you point, except for the part where i am required to purhcase alcohol, something i simply won't do :)

          @jimbobaus:
Ahem.. I may have returned said wine after obtaining proof of purchase…

        • @wizzfizz: ohhh cheeky, I thought about that but figured that most alcohol dispensers are unlikely to take returns - who did you buy from?

        • +1

@jimbobaus: Peeps shouldn't be voting you down for the moral stance (regardless of if they agree).

  • Furbo, great if you want others to see inside your house, and have access to all the photos you take.

    • Not if you follow the instructions and set it up right

      • And don't connect it to the internet, or use their cloud storage.

        • -1

I have had one of these for about a year and no one can access the camera or the storage without passwords (which i set up) and the connection between the device and the storage is encrypted. There was issues with the security on the version 1 of these units, but no such issues anymore.

        • @jimbobaus: we used this exact model in my infosec classes. Was good fun! it's mostly the app and website, has nothing to do with the units

        • @OnlinePred:

Hey there OnlinePred. I was seriously considering the purchase but your statement has put me off! Any chance you could elaborate a bit? :)

        • @androo: I don't know if they have patched it since, but basically you could spoof an account ID . So example, setup an account with them, then login and go to your saved photos/live feed. Then just change the request that goes out by changing the ID. There was no security on it after you logged in, so we could access other students live feeds and saved photos. Once we had the Get requests, we didn't even need to setup an account, could just straight spoof the ID's.

Either way, just consider that any camera you introduce to your home that has cloud storage, that it could be compromised. If I was going to get a security camera for my dog, I would get a system that can be hosted locally - ie setup a azure VM to host the system, or even a PC running 24/7 as an example. If you have nothing to hide - perhaps the camera is pointed at the dog house or something and doesn't capture anything else, then I don't think it's an issue. But if it shows items in your house of high value, people, bedrooms, house layout, if anyone is home - then it could all be used against you. In my opinion, it's better to be safe.

They key issue with this is the cloud storage and apps. I have two friends who have this, and they love it, and don't care about the privacy implications. Also keep in mind the security flaws we used could be patched by now (although that doesn't make it completely secure).

On the product side, the picture that these things have is pretty rubbish. You can make out the dog, but the photos are pretty terrible and not 1080 at all.

On a side note, there are quite a few professionals that say these introduce negative behaviors to the dogs (if you use the voice/treat tools)

I'm convinced, the world has gone completely mad.
