$10 off Any Full Priced Book or DVD in Store @ Borders

290

[RE-edit] They changed the T&C's to exclude popular penguins :(

If you can find a $20 book then this is 50% off!

Good luck with that…but you can get some paperbacks for under $25 so it's still a respectable 40% off and a reasonable price for a book you can get hold of immediately.

The DVDs - I doubt would be cheap even with $10 off, if they even have any decent DVDs left after the recent sales.

    Penguin books are $10

    • that's what I was thinking too. Wonder if that means that we can get them for free.

      • -1

        It does. I got 6. Was I over-zealous?

        • nice! Are there any limits on how many books we can buy at once?

        • There was no limit before but they just changed the terms to: “Limit is one coupon per customer per day".

Very awesome! A love those savings with a definite amount

  • Link not working!

    • Is it working now? I had problems with the main Borders website last night, but the link worked for me.

    • link working again

Phrasing of second exclusion of T&Cs made me laugh:

Discount excludes kids and teen books, all other books, CDs, audio books, Paperchase, Gloria Jeans, Typo, newspapers, magazines, bookazines, magazine subscriptions, gift cards, journals & diaries, vouchers, previous purchases, non-stock special orders, eReaders, iPods and MP3 players.

"excludes kids and teen books, all other books…"? that excludes a few!

  • mr men boks are 5 bucks
    do i get 5 bucks change :P
    bah no kids books

wonder if they have marked up all books below 20 bucks to 20…

Thanks Borders. Popular Penguins ($9.95) are very popular today!!!

  • is there a voucher with a barcode I need to print out?

    • That's the voucher I got, interesting that it doesn't have a barcode like it usually does.

    • No need for a barcode … just use the voucher pianissimo provided … as many as you like, one per book.

      Thank you, pianissimo.

  • ALERT: They've already changed the terms and added: "Limit is one coupon per customer per day"!!!

Wonder if I can use the spare ones I printed off? :)

    • awww, but still a good deal :)

  • I think they have changed the T&C ! It now says "excludes popular penguin books"

    :(

    • where do you get the updated T&C from?

      • I just clicked on the link to the coupon on this deal

        • Ah thanks. I see it now. The T&C definitely did get longer. Lucky to the people who managed to get it earlier.

  • That coupon excludes popular penguin's…How did that guy above get six!

  • I think they changed the T&C

    • Yeah, they changed the terms … I'll be more surreptitious next time.

  • Shame I missed it before they updated the T&Cs. I wonder if they'll accept people that bring in old vouchers that didnt have so many exclusions. I think they would have to, so if you saved the old versions, or have print-outs, give it a go :)

  • Hmmm what if I have printed the coupon before the T&C changed? Can I still get the Penguin books for free? Mmmm…

    • It doesnt say anywhere that the terms and conditions can be changed without prior notification and since this is an advertisement they would either have to email everyone again to notify of the change or place ads in newspapers or somewhere to do so, or place notices up instore. The original coupon should then still be valid.

  • I got an email from Border's today advertising the $10 coupon for v.i.p. members. It makes no mention of any exclusions such as Penguin books.

    • Cool! I must be the only person on ozb not to sign up for the vip thing.

You better use it before they change the conditions on those too.

It can be worth standing up for your rights. I bought one Popular Penguin title this morning and, having quietly gone through the T&C item by item, agreed with the counter clerks that I would come back with 5 more. If they had said no at that stage I would probably have thought no more of it. BUT THEN, after "celebrating" with a cappuccino at Gloria Jeans I tried to redeem my coupons with a different clerk and the "manager" LOUDLY said he wouldn't redeem more than one - he wasn't giving $60 of books away for free! (AND would ring the other stores with my description to prevent me redeeming them there!!!!).

I left the store, rang HO Promotions who said I was entitled to the books, and they rang the Store's General Manager who was great, and I ended up with a fulsome apology on my phone from the Floor Manager who said he had made a mistake, and I got the books. So all's well that ends well I guess but they then, understandably, changed the T&C on the coupons … so don't be surprised if u get a follow up email.

Apart from the one guy everyone at Borders was cool :)

  • I bought 2 penguin books yesterday at parramatta and didn't even know about the discount until we got to the check out and the checkout lady told us about it! So yeah for me it was buy 1 get 1 free ( 2 penguin books for $10)lucky that i got in early! =)

  • I went to two stores today early in the morning. The two guys looked at the terms and conditions but still let me through so i got 2 penguin books.
BTW I used the new uploaded voucher, seems that the team members at borders haven't been updated about it.

Just bought Kurt Vonnegut - Slaughterhouse 5 for $2.95. Don't forget Random House "Vintage Classics" are RRP $12.95. Also, got a free Popular Penguin today (Friday lunchtime) at the same time. Going to try my luck again this Saturday and Sunday. This is such a great deal cannot understand why only 26+ votes. Best book deal ever IMO. Felt like a guilty shop-lifter walking out with 2 great books for only $2.95 ;)

    • hmmmm … I'd better shoot off to my other local Borders :)

    • You certainly can find some bargains there. There was one DVD I could have had for free (They're a Weird Mob, IIRC), and some others for $4.95 (post-offer). Some new HB classic literature is $6.95. Obviously out of copyright. The problem is nothing took my fancy, despite two visits. Well, I suppose that's my problem.

It's unbelievable the junk the Chatswood Borders has accumulated; just look in the bargain boxes. A $3 kit to turn your ex-boyfriend into a toad by Athena Starwoman? Hahaha.

Quite a lot of good books went cheap in the previous few weeks when they had a $5/book sale in the stage area of Chatswood Westfield, including many computer books.

  • Blu-rays?

    • Not covered by this coupon.

  • I really don't know why more people like this deal..it's awesome. Have stocked up on penguin classics.
    :)

  • Maybe just in time:

Borders UK went bankrupt in 2009, closing 49 stores.

Borders US may be bankrupt this week and close 200 stores this year.

Borders Australia is totally independent - and hopefully faring better.

    • Well I hope this jettisoning of stale stock means that they are activating plan B. I don't see how they can survive unless they get out of high rental shops.

      • "There will be a 50% reduction in bricks-and-mortar shelf space for books within five years, and 90% within 10 years … Bookstores are going away” - a consultants opinion in a Wall Street Journal article today about US Borders.

Dammit, how did I not see this earlier!?

Borders been giving away free books for a week and still can't get any OB love. A lousy 28 votes.

Meanwhile everyone going crazy over 10% off Book Depository and free shipping from Amazon UK.

Me no understand how OB's think.
