Online Maths Software Now With The Support of a Maths Teacher $69 Per Year (Was $149) @ STAR Maths Online

90

Hi OzBargainers!

We are posting this deal as part of our launch of the extended version of our free software. A big thank you to all the OzBargain community members for their feedback and suggestions on making this software much better for all primary children!

S.T.A.R. Maths Online is a primary maths software that is geared towards providing our children with a fun and engaging learning experience while they build their maths foundation.

The new updates will improve students' learning by:

  • Weekly exercises allocated by our teachers
  • Adaptive based learning which sees question increase and decrease in difficulty depending on your child's ability
  • Improvements in our question design to be more appealing to primary school children
  • Fun in-game activities and competitive leaderboards to compete with other students
  • A teacher behind the scenes to review their weekly results and allocate supplementary contents if your child is excelling or has gaps which need filling

Our update also provides parents with:

  • Your mobile app to connect and engage with your child
  • View all your child's results throughout the year
  • Send fun e-stickers/emojis to reward and encourage your child's learning
  • Receive notifications on their milestones and also from our teachers when gaps/strengths have been identified.

The premium version gives your child access to the extra content from our teachers when they identify and proactively help your child with their maths.

Our free version is still available for parents who do not need the extra attention of a maths teacher to assist their child throughout the year.

For more information, please check out: https://starmathsonline.com.au/for-students/

And again, a big thank you for all the OzBargainers who pitched in out of their goodwill to help us improve S.T.A.R. Maths Online!

  • It’s a good conecpt. Good on you. Do your tutors have a working with children check completed. Wouldn’t be keen for my kids to be dealing with someone who couldn’t pass one…

    • +1

      Hi Bellpop,

Our teachers work behind the scenes and do not interact with the children(Like a virtual teacher). They are to check each child's weekly results to ensure they are on the right track. But yes they have a working with children check as they are also real life tutors :)

    • You do realise that there didn't even use to be such a thing as a "working with children" check?

      • I work in education, yes.

    • +9

Because we took a fun and informal approach to the software so it doesn't feel like more tedious exercises for the children :)

        • +11

Maybe it is because you are acting like a child.

        • -4

@Daabido: Your statement is nonsense. How you perceived I was acting has no bearing on how STAR Maths Online has written its marketing material, because the material was composed long before I asked my question.

        • @alvian: leave him alone guys he hasnt had enough holidays….

    • +3

They are maths teachers, not English :-)

        edit..

      Talk about delusional arrogance.

    • +2

Geez. It's the standard way Australians abbreviate the word. I'm a maths teacher (yes, I say it that way regularly). It does bother me a little when people use 'math' (no s) like Americans do, yuck!

    • +5

Same reason anyone shortens anything. brevity.

Sort of like in this post of yours
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/391795

you used C&C instead of click and collect
you used aka instead of also known as
you used dpi instead of dots per inch
Not quite sure why you hyphenated two-devices because it's not a compound adjective.

But you know what, writing is a form of communication. Communication is a method used to get someone or something else to understand you. The fact you attempted to correct the Op indicates that you understood what they were saying. Thus communication was successfully achieved. In the words of Mr Bush Jr "Mission accomplished"!

BTW Looks like higher education also uses maths

you used C&C instead of click and collect

Hit character limit in the title

you used dpi instead of dots per inch

        Simply quoting Logitech

Not quite sure why you hyphenated two-devices because it's not a compound adjective.

Logitech calls the product "Multi-Device Mouse" when in fact the mouse only supports two devices. "Multi" and "Device" are hyphenated because they are being used as an adjective to describe the mouse. I wanted to clarify the mouse's pairing capability so I changed it to two-device, and that was the reason.

you used aka instead of also known as

Guilty. My excuse is that I used it only once in the description and only within brackets. In contrast, "maths" is used numerously and consistently in all STAR Maths Online's marketing material, including in the description above and on its website. The word "mathematics" is never used, not even once.

        • +4

so? maths (or math) is an acceptable abbreviation for mathematics. for all intents and purposes they are one in the same.

As for your excuses, not accepted! You apparently know better, but blindly followed. Critising here just makes you a hypocrite! I hypocrite I said!

        • -1

          @supabrudda:

          I hypocrite I said!

That is grammatically incorrect. You should have written "I am a hypocrite, I said!" But we know that already because, quoting you, writing is a form of communication, and communication is a method used to get someone or something else to understand you. We don't need to be precise, concise, or correct now, do we? Just as long as the idea comes across, it will do fine.

If that is your opinion of yourself and you wish to announce it on OzBargain, who am I to argue? However, I hold no such prejudice against you.

      • -1

BTW Looks like higher education also uses maths

Only occasionally. They do not abuse the abbreviation like STAR Maths Online does. By the way, your capitalisation is incorrect and your use of the singular "higher education" to represent multiple higher educational institutions is awkward.

and you've just proven my point, the words math = maths = mathematics are inter-changeable. SO you're wrong to demand people/website only use the term mathematics. It's an archiac expectation that a word which has been in common usage for over a century should be used.

yep I am ackward with english, I can't spell properly (just check most of my comments), my grammer is primary level at beat (again just check my comments). I failed yr12 English.

        • @supabrudda:

SO you're wrong to demand people/website only use the term mathematics.

I made no such demand, and so I did nothing wrong. Please do not put words into my (virtual) mouth. I simply questioned why the word "mathematics" is not used anywhere in the marketing material, not even once.

It's an archiac expectation that a word which has been in common usage for over a century should be used.

I failed to see how using the appropriate word in the appropriate context is an archaic expectation.

Your quoting of the universities' web pages proved my point. They used the words "mathematics" and "mathematical" significantly more frequently than they used the abbreviation "maths", and STAR Maths Online used the abbreviation "maths" infinitely more frequently than it used the word "mathematics".

        • +1

          @alvian:

the word "mathematics" is not used anywhere in the marketing material, not even once.

outside the 'marketing' world, in the 'real' world, most people refer to it as maths, including teachers, lecturers and professors…

        • @jv: I know in the real world people use "maths" more often, but it is marketing that we are discussing here, aren't we? This post and its description are marketing, the STAR Maths Online web front page is marketing. This marketing is aimed at parents, and not primary school children who may be put off by the word "mathematics". The web front pages of the universities' mathematics department are marketing too, but they used "mathematics" more often than "maths".

        • @alvian:

but it is marketing that we are discussing here, aren't we?

nope, i look past the marketing… do you not read my comments???

        • @jv: I read your comment. You wrote "comments" but I only saw the one prior to your latest? Were there others that I missed?

in the 'real' world, most people refer to it as maths, including teachers, lecturers and professors…

Sorry, I have missed your point. We know that statement is true, so what are you trying to say?

        • @alvian:

          I made no such demand

Well then why all the comments? Why makensuch a deal about using amso called abbreviation, if you're no demanding something?

I failed to see how using the appropriate word in the appropriate context is an archaic expectation

maths is an appropriate word. As demonstrated by yourself in concluding that tertiary institutions use the terms synonymously. English being a living language means it's (it is) comstantly changing an adapting. The word or abbreviation of mathematics, maths or math, has been in use fornover 100 years. You complaining about it's use is archaic. The English language started moving on iver one hundred years ago, maybe it's (it is) time for you too.

Your quoting of the universities' web pages proved my point.

Actually it proved my point of math = maths = mathematics in mathematical terms they're equivalents. (Or in your speak they are equivalents)

and STAR Maths Online used the abbreviation "maths" infinitely more frequently than it used the word "mathematics

And your point is? So what if they use the much more common term (which co-incidently is also an abbreviation)? And I pointed out you also ised abbreviations numerous times in you most recent post (which was a good deal - thanks). Happy to go back and dig out some more if you like? As I mentioned above, complaining when you do the same is hypocritical.

Great concept. More importantly if you can deliver a better user experience than Mathletics then you're on to a winner. Their product is now very dated in the user interface regard and I don't see any moves to improve it soon. The IOS app is woefully out of date in interface speed and useability. If someone comes up with a modern high responsive and simple UI for tablets and phones they'll be on to a winner.

    • +1

That is what we are aiming to so Yanman :)

But not improve by a little but by a big margin. Education technology needs to improve much faster than what it currently is!
