Cheapest Way to Get Free Travel Insurance? through a CC?

Hi all,

I'm heading overseas to travel India in a few months. I don't plan to do any crazy activities, so CC travel insurance will suffice (Opposed to separate standalone travel insurance).

I guess the best way to get the cheapest travel insurance is via CC. Is that correct?

Can you please suggest cheapest CC that offers Travel insruance?

Thanks

you'll need to purchase your plane tickets on that specific card to qualify for travel insurance. and if your are the card holder you need to be travelling in order to claim travel insurance (i.e your partner purchases tickets on their card for you to travel but they aren't travelling with you)

most platinum cards offer travel insurance. Citibank platinum comes to mind…
you can take advantage of this deal

    • Depends on the card. I think some NAB ares are automatic even if you don't purchase.

    • Not all cards. My ANZ travel adventures card has travel insurance activated all the time, regardless whether you buy anything for the trip on the card.

      • I have that card too and its not "all the time" - $250 of any kind of prepaid travel needs to be paid for.

From PDS (only relevant point included):
        2. Eligibility criteria
To meet the eligibility criteria you are:

(f ) used a participating card account before you went on
your trip to purchase at least AUD$250* in total (inclusive
of taxes and other charges) of:
        (i) transport costs (airfares and/or cruise); and/or
(ii) land content (tours, hire cars or other hired transport
        and accommodation),

CBA is the only one I can think of without any conditions attached, although if you tell them of your travel then the coverage increases drastically.

I've come across some that say has to be return flights (of any amount) too.

I rely on CC insurance a lot since I started working - only had to make a claim once - which had A LOT of back and forth over a few months but eventually got everything I believed I was entitled to (this was with the ANZ card, claiming for missing the first week of my trip - so some medical costs, new flights, lost accommodation etc).
