[Pre Order] ODROID-GO Game Kit $32 USD + $9.95 USD Shipping (AUD $56.53) @ Ameridroid

90
ELECTRO4

Cheapest I could find (eg. for comparison, Jiffyshop is selling for $67 AUD + $12.95 AUD shipping).

If paying with Paypal, remember to consider changing the currency conversion to your card provider, as you can almost guarantee the conversion rate will be better.

Looks like a pretty decent Game Boy-style handheld emulator for the price. I'm looking forward to assembling it.

Looks like a lesser version of the Retro Mini, with assembly required.

Cool idea, but for the price, I'd strongly advice looking into a Pi portable tbh.

    • I agree but find Pi solutions to be expensive. Open for suggestions, particularly if it's for the Pi 3.

    • Please elaborate. I've been looking for a half decent, non 3d printed portable gaming kit for Pi 3 for ages.

    • This thing runs an ESP32 micro-controller, no OS to boot so straight on, uses less power,so longer run time for the same sized battery. Also means they likely won't be adding newer systems than those listed. Latest experimental firmware did add ColecoVison though, so plenty of older stuff that could potentially be added.

Not sure about shipping, but standard price is US$32 from the manufacturer (HardKernel) in Korea.

Assembly doesn't take long and only tool required is a screwdriver. Setup just involves setting up some folders on a mSD card, then copying over ROMs.

  • Seen some good reviews on this unit.

  • I really dont get the target market

like you have to put it together and just buy a pi or any other kit to do things like that and if you want portable emulators you can get something like the x9 or a ton of others for cheaper that does snes and gba and if you really want more just go for a psp for under $150 and have way more gens of emulators

    • psp *3ds xl but yea

I think it's actually targeted at developers and kids as a programming education tool that can also run ROMs. Looks interesting from that perspective.

You can write your own games using the Arduino environment I believe, and it also has some I/O exposed for interfacing with external sensors and actuators similar to the "Pocket Chip"

It's almost a shame that they have focussed on the emulators so much, as it probably is a barrier to getting these into schools as part of a STEM "make your own games" type course.

It's like North Korea decided to make their own Nintendo Switch.

  • I need deals on the high power odroid xu2 i think it is?

    Need n64.

That's disappointing. I thought it was running a powerful ODROID from HardKernel.

If you're interested in this then I would strongly suggest checking out the Pocket Sprite

    • Thanks for the Pocket Sprite link. Looks like a very similar device - ESP32 based with battery and speaker. I think I like the size of the Odroid GO better though, and having Arduino support is pretty cool.

        No probs.
The Sprite will probably give you RSI but it can fit on your key chain (if that's something people still have these days). I know the owner and original designer of the Sprite. I got to play with one of the original prototypes before the campaign started.

      • Also on the GO you store ROMs+save states on the SD card, looks like the Sprite just uses internal flash, so no where near as much space.

  • Out of stock. Can preorder for late Aug or early Sep shipment, though.

Thanks for the heads up. Will update post.

  • Anyone know any sellers with stock?

As far as I've seen, the AmeriDroid pre-order will be your best option at this point. The other stores aren't even offering that.

I ended up pre-ordering from Ameridroid. Apparently Hardkernel has had trouble sourcing speakers and have a supply shortage. There is a small shipment of Odroid-Gos due to be sent out on August 17th and then there should be more stock available in September.
