  • Nice TV, but got it for same price from Clive Peters about a month ago when you could also send off for a Blu Ray Player as well, so would expect to pay less now.

    Shame the Series 5 models are so dated now, compared to the almost superseded Series 7 models. No Movie Playback, no network connectivity and no Internet TV capabilities.

      @Rumbaar.

      You must have the 4 series confused with this one :)

      This model does do:

      Allshare - for network streaming of VIDEO, PICTURES and AUDIO
      USB Movie - for connection a usb hard disk or key and playing VIDEO, PICTURES and AUDIO

      And it is Full HD 1080P …not like the 4 series which is 1366x768 with neither of the above features! [edit - 4 series does playback from usb also]

      Just so we don't confuse it.

      This is the model on sale PS50C550:

      It is not this one which, whilst still a good TV, is inferior and a few specifications PS50C451:

      • Ah I was thinking of the PS50A550 version of the Series 5 Plasma's, which don't have movie or network capabilities.

        Sorry about that.

    I'm boycotting Samsung.

    They used bad capacitors on the power supply board and wont fix the problem without charge. This has happened overseas too.

    Stay away from Samsung.

    • ouch!

      Fair enough … each to their own!

      My personal experience with Samsung has been great (and this was before I sold them) with both TV's and white goods like fridges.

      I have 3 of their TV's including a 63" Plasma and a I think they are a "good value for money" option.

      Some people like Sony, others like Panasonic and some like Samsung.

      Having a choice is what makes the world a cool place!

    • Yeah shame about that too. I've had my 50" series 5 for a number of years now with any issue, knock wood. But my friends has had some minor display issues.

      My girlfirend has a 42 LCD Samsung, about 2-2.5 years old, and for a while now, occasionally the when you turn on the TV, the picture is garbled, you can just make out things on the screen, but all the colours are black and fluro… wtf?

      it fixes itself if you turn it off and back on again, and only actually happens maybe once every 6 months, I wonder if this is related.

      @Sharp

      Please show me where you can purchase this cheaper and I will beat it!

      :)

  • what about extended warranty? where do you put that in?

  • For anyone who just wants a 50" plasma without the bells & whistles, Myers has the Samsung PS50C451 for $848 plus "Ask for a deal… we will do a deal on any of our Electrical products". So maybe 800 or less for a 50".
