Zelda - Ocarina of Time (N64) or Ocarina of Time 3D

Hey guys, just asking for your advice on which version of OOT to play first.
I have recently managed to acquire Ocarina of Time and Majora's mask on the n64, and can play them on my very own console! However, i also have a 3ds and can buy OOT 3d for 35$
My question: Is it worth buying the remaster to play the game at it's fullest potential, or should i play the OG? It's my first playthrough.

To be honest I don't remember much difference between the two, I think they're both super enjoyable. Though I usually like playing games while lying in bed so 3ds would be a little preference but I just feel you don't get such a majestic feel of how great the game is (at least when I look at it through my nostalgia glasses) unless you play it full on, on a TV. If its your first time, I'm thinking maybe TV on the 64.

    • Yeah i was thinking the TV is the best option. Especially after i spent 20 minutes getting it to work.

I still pull mine out of the cupboard to play through both OOT and MM again every 18 months or so

    • One'o those eh'.

  • Check the prices. If you can find the N64 version at a decent price in good condition I'd go for that, but when I've seen them they've been >$60.

    • They literally said in the description that they acquired the N64 version.

      • I'm literally the guy in the pic

        • Why can’t I find a guy like this ugh

I have played through the N64 version multiple times, I have also played through the 3DS remake and my lady is currently playing through the 3DS remake at the moment, if you are someone who hasnt played many old school games and tend to get bored by them play the 3DS one because it was revamped with a new UI for the touchscreen which makes inventory and item using much less tedious, the face lift is also much nicer even though it is o a smaller screen. The game is great and you should definitely give it a shot!

gameplay wise there is no difference, the graphics are remastered in the OOT 3D version and reflect the MM Characters models first shown on the 64.

I think playing MM on 3DS is alot better with the time management of the 3 days, alot of the time i'd just suspend my play instead of saving at the owl statues.

    hope this helps!

FYI, OP, but OOT is $30 at EB Games. No need to pay $35.

Or $24 second hand from eb

Play it on the N64 so that you have to tolerate the full force of the Water Temple; not the watered down (pun intended) version that was put into the 3D remake.

  • Play it on the N64 first so you can then play it for a second time on the 3DS and appreciate how beautiful it is

Hey everyone! Sorry, i forgot to check back on the thread (Forgot i have to manually check the thread, i dont get notifications for some reason). I played OOT on the N64 last sunday (5/8) and holyyyy crap it's so fun. I love writing the ocarina's down on a piece of paper. It makes the experience much more engaging and dynamic and it allows me to get much more creative. So far i'm 4 hours in and i still haven't left clock town lol. I'm considering getting it for my 3ds after i'm done with the n64 version, it's just. that. good.
