  • No October dates from Mel?

$687 from Brisbane gets you Noumea and Vanuatu on a cruise ship at P&O (1 day at the three places)

I did it myself and loved it. It especially made up for some of the shortcomings of the island, I can't imagine paying this much to just go to Noumea.

    • The few hours you spend at each place really isn't enough time to properly do anything. Not to mention P&O being bogan and school kid central.

Still good for a first time.

The 6-7 hours you get is plenty for Noumea unless you want to go to nearby islands as well.

Not much on Noumea and it's also very expensive. It's pretty much a resort island for tourists which you achieve by taking a cruise which includes all meals and drinks. You're not going to get much difference between clientele on either. Lots of bogans and kids in Noumean resorts too.

If you do this Ozbargain style it's all good. The public transport bus that you can take as far as you want is around $3 per trip. The 'tourist sucker bus' is around $15 - $20.

Look in the bars etc for promo info on the tables. There was BOGOF codes etc scattered around. Beers / wine / food was same as OZ this way. But you can pay $$.

Look for accom outside the main strip. Use the supermarkets.

Cruise stop over is reasonable for main Noumea. Walk past the sucker bus, into the main town for 15mins of mini France, check out a local market, grab 2 bus tickets per person. Get on a bus, take a long circular trip to Anse vata beach. Grab a crepe / beer. Go for a swim, watch the kiteboarders. Choose a trip on the water taxi out to the island, or maybe visit the aquarium (both $$ ish). Get on bus, use ticket 2 and head back to cruise area. Go to the supermarket, grab a bottle of Noumean whisky (was $12 a bottle)…technically should hand in while boarding..up to you!

        • @tunzafun001: Eh… if I'm doing it OzB style, I don't even get off the ship when it docks.

        • @Cyphar:

You get full reign of the buffet if you stay!

P&O lol no thanks floating bogan ships

      • +1

Someone described them to me as floating RSLs. That put me off.

Maybe it depends on when you go but I found a very small amount of boganlike people, most if it is just young people, old people and some kids.

Definitely nothing that fits into the bogan category that I saw.

  • Aren't those dates around the cyclone season?

  • New Cal is definitely different - recommend staying in Noumea but staying near Chateau Royal Beach Resort and Sp… few island off there are amazing for wildlife.
