i bought my 40kg dumbbell set for $90 from my local store
    $1.25 per kilo and $20 for a bar(i bought 2)
although mine did not have a carry case and also mine is 8x5kg

      I bought 180 kg olympic weights + barbell + locks for 200$ :p

      No need to buy new…

      • +1

        wow that's really good value

  • I bought them previously and must say quality is poor, I would not recommend them…

    • Really?
I also purchased them and I find them great o.O

Just to clear up for other people what do you find poor quality about them? The whole unit or ..

        reading from the previous post
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/36691

it seems it's only the case that's broken, not really a big deal though(IMO)

3 of the handle clips on the boxes had snapped off, but everything else was intact.

        .

My cardboard box and case is shattered….obviously been dropped. The contents is intact though.

        .

I got mine today, it was also very badly packaged, and the case was broken.

        .

although one person did have the bars missing

Mine arrived this morning, but missing the 2 x bars!

Wouldn't go so far as to say quality is poor, the packaging was poor, poor mailman probably dropped it - but the actual dumbbells and bars are pretty sturdy, for the price you really can't complain.

    • +1

I find the quality very poor compared to other dumbbells I bought I while ago (must have been a bit more expensive but not that much)

First, the case was broken and is quite useless
Then, the paint on the discs is not very well applied and feels like it's not going to last. Also there's a strong smell of cheap chemicals
Then, I don't like the spinlock collars, they don't hold the weight very well, I keep on having to screw them over again and again
I also find the bar is far too long. While it's good if you think you are going to add 3 more discs on each side, I find it a bit annoying as overall it's too wide

Anyway, it gives me the feeling of a cheap product, which is what it is… so it's cheap, but you get what you pay for

      • Forgive my astonishment, but you can tell by smell the difference between cheap and expensive chemicals?

        • Some bodybuilders pay extra for chemicals - They also go crazy ;-)

Mine are in the corner collecting dust. Seem to be quite comfortable with the stick figure physique. ;-)

    • Send them to me I'll pay you 19.50 as long as you cover the courier charge

  • +2

it's pretty good but they smell funny

    • I agree. Being made in China, the paint is probably full of lead…

    • Yeah, it does have a funny smell. I bought two iterations ago. Case was also damaged but not severely. I'm tempted to get another set just for the weights alone still.

Get your guns into shape with a 20kg dumbbell set.

Not sure about the end user, but at this price, the delivery guy will definitely have his guns into shape!

  • I checked Rebel sport, and they sold for $99. Just bought this, as I thought it is a great offer. Just hope it comes quickly, and without problems!

  • ok i just got 2 sets but i still think its not enough, maybe i should go for 1 more that makes it 30kg each side, would other weights fit the bars so i dont have to buy another whole set? like the crappy weights from kmart but than again these are iron and cheaper compared to other places, these are good for a home workout cause u can train most of ur upper body with dumbbells only instead of paying for a gym membership, mine expires in 4 days, $320 for 3 months is a rip-off!

    • I would also like to know if other weights fit into the iron bars from this set. This weight set actually weighs 15kg and not 20kg, so paying another 45 for small weight plates totalling 15kg is about the same as buying proper weight plates from other places

    • Yeah but if you want 'real' results, you have to start deadlifting/squatting and lifting with some heavier weight than this. You'll never get the physique you're after by doing bicep curls(which I assume everyone does with a set like this). The average 20yr old 70kg-75kg bloke in the gym can probably bicep curl as much as me, I'm 182cm/89kg and lean. Real strength/size is in compound movements(heavy).

Hit the gym and get a proper program… you'll see great results! ;-)

good God some of the complaints on here are pathetic. the paint? the packaging? this isnt art and nor are you gonna place the box next to your picasso collection

the only legitimate problems are the screws that hold the weight together will need to be constantly tightened. though its nothing too alarming.

the other problem is that the bar holding the weight is simply too thin. unless you have the hands of a 5 year old, it'll feel quite uncomfortable using them.

though for the price theyre great. i got them last time they had this deal.

  • these suck. the locknuts keep coming loose whilst your using them and the bar is too skinny making it uncomfortable to grip. i have a different set with a thicker bar and proper locknut and they are MUCH better to use

  • I just need the extra weight for my previous dumbbells so these should do just fine.

Just remember to lift heavy and take your multi.

  • Looks good. Need another set to replace my single size concrete dumbells.

Those who charge $10 shipping for items like games and phone accessories, I hope you're paying attention.

    • LOL

  • I brought these weights before Christmas. I had no issues with the packaging, and the weights are ok, which I can also fit onto my bigger York dumbbell. The only thing I don't like about these weights is the bar.

The length of the bar is too small, so it might not accommodate extra weights comfortably considering that the spindle may loosen during training.

I also feel that the diameter of the bar is too small; at least compared to the dumbbells that I use at the gym.

  • Just a quick review as I bought these a few months ago

    1) Delivery
Because of the weight of the package you will have to pick these weights up from your local post office. I unfortunately had to go a bit of a way out to one of the delivery centers as my local post office wouldn't hold it for the 7 days. Its pretty heavy so make sure you have a car to take it home.

    2) Case
The case is pretty flimsy. The design is so that the case will be the size of a briefcase. But unfortunately the snaps can break off quite easily and its not easy to pack it and keep the weights from falling out. I had already found the weights falling out when I picked it up.

    3) Quality
This was one good thing about the weights. They work and work well. The weights fit fine and the screws to lock the weights in place work just fine.

All in all if you want some good price weights these are a good pickup. Weights are pretty expensive so its a worthwhile if you want some. As I mentioned the case is a bit flimsy and delivery a bit tricky.

    • I had mine delivered to my house without issue
