Good on you for seeing if anyone can use these, rather than simply just throwing them away.

Agree. If only more people/companies thought of others like this, the world would be a better place.

how many companies can you name that can give away stuff they normally throw out, without the potential for a health and safety breach. My employer wastes heaps of food that could be eaten by homeless and needy persons, but the positives are outweighed by the negative, great deal, but companies need to be cut some slack about perceived wastage

What do the fashion and toy industries do with the things they cannot sell … ?

        • ^They give them to reverse Garbage. If you're located in Sydney, just give them a call and they'd be happy to take them off your hands. Then they can be used for crafts etc.

        • +4

Fairly sure Gucci, Loui Vuitton, Hermes etc don't throw shit out. To them, everybody is homeless.

  • I still remember using video tapes to record shows/movies airing on TV back home, does anyone still use these stuff now?

    • lol @ our house
we have like a cupboard load of them, usually consisting of olympic videos

      • "*BETACAM SP is a broadcast videotape cassette format and not the same as the domestic beta format"

        • he was asking if anyone still uses tapes, wan't he?

I still remember using video tapes…..does anyone still use these stuff now?

  • Who uses tape anymore? HDD baby all the way!

    • I know aye, 1 HDD= 1000000 tapes. And its smaller than a tape.

    Another + for offering them.

Anything worthwhile on them? recordings of Samurai Pizza Cats?

So, for those who can play the commercial Beta SP videos, and would like the tapes, it could be a curious free look at history and/or collecting the videos? :)

(So, this is possibly a mix of edited and raw footage preparing for interviews and tv shows even, from a tv station? :) )

  • I think you will find recycling companies willing to take the whole lot, they might even pay u for it.

  • that sounds good..what recycling companies will take these?

    • Reverse Garbage

They'll usually even send out a truck to pick them up. The goods are usually bought by schoolteachers, artists, and just craftspeople.

who the hell would still want video tapes at this time? dvds should be piling up and you all want some ancient old tapes

  • +2

Give them to ABC so they don't tape over anymore original episodes of Countdown or other irreplaceable moments in TV history ;-)

Hope someone posts back what they contain for curiosity sake. Content could well be worth something in time!
    eg. http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/treasurehunt/index.shtml

    • Hehe, BBC did the same with the original black & white episodes of Dr Who. They were only able to get them back due to people recording them at home. Although some episodes are still missing & were substituted with episode recordings made for airing on the radio.

  • should put VIC on the title.

  • betacam is the same as betaMax

    it's a shame!
I don't have the player to play these.

  • Could be some archival value in some of the content, but it's very unlikely anyone would bother to scour through it.
