Stock could be from AU or HK … does this price include GST ?

Shipping is $15 to Melbourne … not bad.

Band 28, NFC and Android One for under $450 … not sure what Xiaomi has for under $450 that also includes NFC and band 28.

Does it come with AU charger or foreign charger and travel adapter ?

  • Great phone. Got one from these guys about a month ago. Comes with foreign adapted and converter. But I use a different charger at home anyways.

    • How is the Camera? Does it take some good low light and portrait photos?

      • +1

Camera is decent for the price but dont expect flagship level. If you want low light photo you are pretty much need to shell out for say Pixel 1, which is cheaper than this on the other deal, while outdated (not that much as SD821 still good vs SD660) it does have better camera, band 28 and NFC.

        • Thanks for sharing that. Currently use a Nexus 6P. It is getting really slow these days and not to mention the battery life. But the picture quality of Nexus 6P is amazing for a 3 year old phone.

I took few shots from the Nokia 7 Plus at JB and compared the two photos. Nexus 6P photos look sharper than the Nokia 7 Plus.

Otherwise the phone is pretty awesome. It is faster than my Nexus 6P. The battery life is apparently superb and it has got a headphone jack.

        • @dealspider: Your best bet is to upgrade to a Pixel or Pixel 2. The other sale of Pixel 128GB version for $409 is really really good, considering it should be as fast (if not faster in gaming) than the Nokia 7 plus and with a much better camera. I got the Pixel 2 and camera is one of the main reason (another was that I want a small phone and not these long/oversized/phablet phones that everyone seems to be raving about).

        • @Bigboomboom: Yes you are probably right. I was thinking about Pixel as well. Also OnePlus 6.

        • Not a valid comparison. Pixel has a small 5.0" screen

        • @bob19: Yes, and it's AMOLED. The Nokia has LCD screen, clearly you know which is actually better quality?

    • Did it come with a case included?

      • I think only Australian stock provides that

    • Does it run the OTA version of Android One? As in, you get automated security updates etc ?

      • Yes. I get them 2 days after my wife's Pixel.

  • hmm this or the Sharp Aquos S3 Mini minus the NFC ?

  • +1

The only thing holding me back from getting one of these is Telstra don't support VoWifi for these phones (I have super crappy reception at home for all 3 carriers).

  • How do we know this is actually running the fully supported release of Android One? It could be reflashed which means no OTA updates..

    • Is FUlly supported Android One. not a reflashed one, ask them via email

      • Any idea if it's China version or world wide version?

        • Is Android ONE = Global

      • China has a 6gb version, that is the one that needs to be reflashed, 4gb were for international market.

  • +1

Looks like they're not charging GST. Not sure if you can get away with that at the custom though.
This company (eGlobal & DWI) had the same phone for ~$450 before July 1st and it was also on Catch.
Now catch has it for $500, if you can get hold of some 15% or 20% off gift card, it'll be $425 / $400. if you bought 20% from WW awhile back with GC, it'll be even better.

    • +1

Not sure if you can get away with that at the custom though.

The abf doesn’t collect gst for lvg.

  • +1

You can still get it from joy buy for $380. Not sure if they will slap on gst. However, it will have the China version for firmware which you can reflast with worldwide.

Any idea if OP has worldwide version flashed on it?

    • Presuming you are reasonably tech savvy and ok to do the reflash, is there any downside to buying a Chinese version? (is the hardware identical?)

      • +1

Yeah, hardware is identical. From reading the forums, the chinese version had some qwerks such as not allowing processes to run in background and no playstore by default. I flashed mine to worldwide immediately so I wouldn't know first hand.

There are 2 ways to flash. Easy way is just transfer the image and the phone will auto update it. Only downside is the playstore will not be certified. This means no OTA (over the air) updates and no google pay with nfc. To get it certified, you'll need to unlock bootloader, root the phone, manually update the device id with a hex editor to relabel phone from China to worldwide and then lock the phone back up. Easy process only if you've done it once before.

        • +1

Hardware is identical. You can buy an unlock code for $4 to unlock the bootloader, use a Magisk boot image, get deviceinfo file, hex edit the CN to WW and then push it back to device and you will be fully certified and a WW model.

      • AFAIK you cant run the Android P beta on the China build, regardless if it has been flashed to Global.

      • china version is 6gb … hence apprehension about reflashing so that it still gets OTA,

    • you but is 30-60 days for delivery, this deal is 6-8 days, so depends if you it in 6-8 days or 30 days….about $40 difference.

      • True. I did get mine in 20 days, but definitely no guarantee

      • +1

Yes, this particular item is from Taiwan maybe due to no-stock at their (qd_au) local Sydney warehouse. But when they do, there won't be any GST apply to it. You can contact the seller for more info. qd_au is a pretty good local dealer for grey imports on eBay.

        • Not sure why you were neg. Your ebay link is cheaper, plus cash reward cashback too and possibly no GST to make it even cheaper

  • Love my Nokia 8, woulda bought this if it were cheaper at my time of purchase.
