    • What do you mean by "phone line might have powered it" ?

I am powering my 3B+ via a PoE network switch - using a $7 adaptor that splits the PoE into LAN + micro-USB (way cheaper than buying the official PoE "hat").

      • I don't know what I mean. I'm a noob. If that doesn't make sense then it's because I don't know what I'm talking about. Glad I bought the power supply then I think :)

      • @systmworks Any chance you have a link to the PoE adaptor you're using?

        • This is what I use - as of last night I have 2 Rpi3 running off same PoE switch using 2 of these.

          https://eBay.com.au/itm/272495389357

        • @systmworks: Do you know if this passes gigabit, or if it takes 2 pairs for the power?

        • @systmworks:
          Oh wow this is new. Power supply thru LAN. Is it safe tho? O_o;

        • @Yummy: Power over Ethernet is not a new thing at all. It's the way a lot of VoIP phones work, just one cable plugged in, for power and network.
Although, I have never actually seen a micro-USB/Ethernet splitter as above.

        • @adam-07: sorry no idea

        • @NigelTufnel:
          15.4W

Not bad for a very fine wires, 28awg uses on cat5 if im not wrong.

  • Looks like the pi touch screen is also still on special at Zapals. Any good uses for this setup?

  • Thanks, been waiting to purchased one. Needed to upgrade my Raspberry Pi 2b+ (which has no wifi and Bluetooth).

Just picked up a NesPi+ from Gearbest yesterday too.

  • Perfect timing.

Thx OP, ordered 3. Gonna put one of this baby into a Neo Geo X dock and install RetroPie NeoGeo games only.

    • I ordered 3 too, not yet sure what I will do with them, but couldn't resist for this price.
I was first looking for RetroPie kit, but couldn't find that immediately.

  • Thanks, bought my 3rd Pi (had 1 and 2), plus an Adafruit arcade kit (it's a fun project to do, brings back childhood memories and also some fun toy for company entertainment room).

  • Will this fit ??

    • Yeah, it should fit nicely. Drills a few holes then you can use a fan too.

  • Thanks OP, been waiting for a good deal on a RPi for my 6yo, he's totally obsessed with old school arcade games.

  • Thanks. Got one.

  • Thanks OP,purchased the Pi 3+. Noticed no gst was collected. Has anyone purchased and received an item (since July 1st this year)from overseas that didn't have gst added to it? If so was there any attempt by Home Affairs to collect gst before releasing the item. Thanks

    • +2

Probably it will be supplied by local Arrow? I hope.

      Arrow Electronics Australia Pty Ltd
2/51 Rawson St, Epping NSW 2121

      • If it's supplied by a subsidiary, they would need to collect and report gst. Is it the same company? Or a reseller? My shipment is being sent from the US via DHL. Not sure why local Arrow would get involved?

        • Maybe Arrow OZ pays the GST for Arrow US? :P

Anyhow, I just hope there would be no problem at the custom.

    • Customs does not have the capacity/ability to hold all international parcels which haven't had GST collected. At the moment GST collection is a purely voluntary thing implemented by the retailer themselves. This may eventually change in future, but for now, this is the current state of affairs.

  • how many pi's do a man need…..

    • Once a day. Aussie Meat Pi is the best!

  • +2

Finally cracked and purchased one to use as a UniFiPi.

    Cheers!

  • Thanks OP, grabbed 2.

  • +1

I haven't received the code. Anyone else?

Edit: NVM. I wasn't receiving it because I didn't agree to receive promotional material.

Order has been shipped out. Placed order around ~3:30pm.

Scheduled Delivery states: 6th August 2018.

  • I have used the mastercard exchange rates to get the AU amount.

Why not just change the currency to AUD on their site?

    • +1

Because international sites usually have a bad exchange rate, seems like Arrow have a decent rate though, good pickup.

      • I did an experiment just now when I put my order through…

My order total was: USD $176.53
Using Arrow's exchange rate, this was equivalent to: AUD $237.97.
I chose to pay in USD using my 28 Degrees card, and that worked out to: AUD $239.09

So Arrow's exchange rate is indeed exactly bang on and very fair, and was actually cheaper than going through 28 Degrees' exchange rate.

And thank you for posting this deal BTW, I stocked up on a bunch of Omron microswitches and Infineon Technologies MOSFETs for my Nerf modding as well — Arrow has rather good prices on these, quite a bit cheaper than DigiKey, even without the 30% discount.

I've been waiting for a Raspberry Pi 3B+ deal, however I didn't expect a deal anywhere near as good as this one. Thank you doweyy, fantastic work!

  • Got 2! Have a bunch of them with HifiBerriys connected to speakers I collected over the years that were kind of useless when you can’t stream to them! Airplay and Bluetooth upgrades to analogue stereo amps and also as standalone mini amps. Can sync playback to them all or have them play on their own.
Hard to only limit myself to only 2 more

    • that sounds awesome, can you pls share a good place you got the DAC/AMP upgrades and whats involved to make it airplay stream-able? Much thanks

EDIT: found some on the Arrow website, going to the HIFIBERRY AMP2, super keen
EDIT2: What case did you get, as i imagine the standard case wont accommodate the hat

  • Been looking to build a RPI Kodi box for a while so now seems a good time to start!

Slightly confused by a few things:
    * If I want to use a Logitech Harmony 650 remote, does the IR work out of the box or do I need an (IR reciever)[https://www.arrow.com/en/products/tsop4838/vishay]?

    • With the power supply, would any 5V/2.5A microUSB charger do or is theirs recommended/needed? I have a bunch of spare ones from phones etc so would love not to spent another $12USD.

    • The case suggested, does that have any cooling included or just a plastic case?

… I'm still looking for the answers myself but thought you experts might know!

    • +1

If I want to use a Logitech Harmony 650 remote, does the IR work out of the box or do I need an IR reciever

The Raspberry Pi doesn't have a IR Blaster built in, so you would be required to install one.

With the power supply, would any 5V/2.5A microUSB charger do or is theirs recommended/needed? I have a bunch of spare ones from phones etc so would love not to spent another $12USD.

For the PSU, make sure the spare one you have are 5V/2.5A as most only goes up to 2A (which is enough for casual usage). I do recommend getting the Official Raspberry Pi PSU to avoid any future issues.

The case suggested, does that have any cooling included or just a plastic case?

The official Raspberry Pi case doesn't have any cooling (no fan/heat sink). The top of the case does come off, so that might be considered cooling?

      • Awesome, thanks for the reply!

So if I have a Phillips IR Receiver, that'd do the trick?

I'll bite the bullet on the PSU too, thanks for the heads up.

Found the FLIRC aluminium one on Amazon AU Prime for $25, which seems a better investment than $12 than a plastic one from Arrow.

        • If all you want is a Kodi box, why it just go for a S905X/912 box that already comes with a power supply and remote?

Would work out cheaper and an overall better performing box.

        • @Porthos:
Naaa not just Kodi, also want audio output via Spotify and my experience with Spotify on ATV sucks to date (with the Mi Box at least).

Plus always wanted an R-Pi to play with ;)

        • +1

@downforce: Haha all good. Just once you need to buy a few things for this the price can quickly go up so if all you wanted it for was Kodi I'd of suggested one of the MeCool boxes which are brilliant with LibreELEC and then all you need for them is a small microsd card and you're set.

  • I haven't been able to add it to my cart all morning. I keep getting:

Sorry, there has been an error.
This action could not be completed at this moment, please try again later.

Tried multiple browsers. Anyone else have this issue?

    • just managed to order 2 for myself, seems to be working okay.

  • How long does it take for the code to land in one's gmail account? it's been 10 minutes and mines still not there.

  • +1

I tried another email address and got the coupon immediately. No idea why my first email didn't work.

  • +1

Did anyone get 2 transactions in their bank statement?
Ordered the pi, a power supply and a case totalling usd38.8
But bank has aud54.78 from arrow ecomm (Which is ok) But then another from arrow Sydney for aud20.77

    • +1

Same. Paid by PayPal, was charged AUD40.97 initially (which is for Pi unit + case == 32.51 + 8.46). Next day found 2 new split transactions on bank account for same 32.51 and 8.46. Probably should wait another day to get initial charge credited back.

      • +1

Yea and I noticed that the pi comes in a different shipment. Hoping it's just one of those authorising temporary payments

    • I seem to have the opposite issue, my payment disappeared!

I used PayPal and didn't put in the code, so messaged Support and they manually edited the order and refunded the difference except now the whole payment had disappeared off PayPal and nothing has hit my credit card.

We'll see but I'll keep an eye on this as I did get two shipments as well.

      • Customer service said the first usd payment is only authorisation payment. The later 2 aud payments are the actual ones.

  • It looks like the Pi 3 B+ standalone is out of stock now, but it's still available in some pretty interesting looking kits that include breadboards, wiring, case, PSU etc

    Cheers for the post doweyy!

    • +1

Wow, I think I saw it like 3000+ stocks left when I order 'em.

  • What is expiring tomorrow?
    30% code or RPi price?

Since there is no stock I wonder if I can sign up for 30% off now and wait for the stock…

    • Seems like there is 749 pieces now or am I wrong? It's the coupon that expires tomorrow btw.

  • Ordered Thursday. On board for delivery today.

If I ordered something from Australia on a Thursday it wouldn't arrive until at least a Tuesday, probably Wednesday. Pretty decent for free delivery from the USA.

    • I ordered 11:44pm on Thursday but I haven't got a shipping notice yet???

      • You can see shipping information/tracking ID by logging into your Arrow account.

I also ordered on Thursday, and mine on board for delivery today.

        • Thanks - I currently see this:
          August 2, 2018
          Status: Processing

It does say against the items: Est. Ship: 3 Aug 2018 Est. Delivery: 7 Aug 2018
          But I don't think that is happening…

        • @slappy: You'll be surprised at the shipping times. Mine was shipped out Thursday and On board for delivery today (~4 days including weekends).

    • Yep, ordered mine Thursday late, received it this a.m. (regional NSW).

  • +1

@doweyy thanks again, amazing price for RPi 3 B+.
For those wondering around shipping time: I took DHL express shipping. Ordered on Thursday 4:15pm, and package arrived 11:30am.
(I even updated the shipping address to the office address after the item was shipped.)

    Great experience.

  • mine arrived today missing one of the two raspberry pi units that was supposed to be in the order! the one from the arcade pack was missing!

    • missing a pi board in delivery

    • My Arcade Pack arrived yesterday - same deal - missing the RPi board. The smokey plastic case, joystick, buttons, cables are there, but no board.

Have you guys spoken with Arrow Support ?

    • Ordered 3x, all paperwork inside, outside & on the box states qty 3x. But only 1x pi in the box. Uuuggghhhhhh.

      • Just got a credit for 2x units at the discounted price. I think they're offering free shipping, but I'd have to pay the 30% difference on the pi's. Not quite the same deal I signed up for.

        Anyone else get duped?

  • Missed my delivery today and recieved a "Door Tag" to reschedule for delivery.

I was home the whole day and didn't hear the door bell once…

    • Also got a "Door Tag" what are we suppose to do with it, if i want to redeliver or leave at door?

      • The door tag should give you more information. It should be rescheduled for tomorrow, you can also rescheduled to a future date on their site.

      • i rescheduled mine for my work place. Hopefully there are no issues with security.

  • Mine arrived today. Everything looks to be there.

I think for my use scenario, I should have bought the PoE add-on thing anyway instead of the power supply. Ugh I'm too sleep wrecked to think about this stuff now.

    • Do you have a PoE switch already?
If so, consider this, I power 2 Pi's (3B and 3B+) with them.

      https://ebay.com.au/itm/272495389357

Less than half the price of buying the official PoE Hat.

      • Thanks for the suggestion but I realize now I don't need it. My device is happy with the power supply

Any ozbargainers that are buying this and have little to no linux experience….I pity you in advance for the absolute aggravation you're about to experience. SCREW LINUX

  • Turns out I ordered B's instead of B+'s in error. Fuuuuuu…….

If I use the same delivery address on another email will they pick up the code used twice?

    • Only if they use one of those new-fangled computer thingies to store and process customer details.

But you never know - what do you have to lose in trying?

      • My dignity.

        • Just use a parcel locker…

        • This is OzBargain and I'm yet to see a good deal on dignity, so assume most of us don't have it :D

  • Currently on chat with Arrow support (it has been a while and going around in circles!!!)
Supposedly my order got placed on "trade compliance hold" or "Tradesphere partner hold" - as I am getting to lots of information.
Lady on chat is useless (to be honest)!

Asked if I had got emails (about what she couldn't actually explain!)

Now the answer is to "hold off until tomorrow" and they will "follow it up"….

Hmmmmmmmmmmm - not a great first experience.

  • got mine. in perth.

  • Ordered two, one arrived DOA.
Arrow not replying to my email requesting return :(

    • Mine booted once and is now dead. Full NOOB 2.8.2 installed Raspbian, Raspbian started its first time configuration and then requested a reboot. I let it reboot and it has not turned on since (Power LED on, Activity LED stays off). Went through the Boot Troubleshooting Guide with new, supported and fully reformatted SD cards and USB flash drives. Official power supply too. I am out of ideas.

What to do to make sure your PI is defective, if you suspect it is?
If you have a PI B, B+ or 2B, There is just one way! You must have an identical model that does boot, and only when you exchange just the working and non-working PI's, and leave everything else the same, including sd-card, power supply, USB devices, and cables, -everything-, you do that, and then the "bad" PI still won't boot, then and only then you know it is the PI itself.

Is there a Pi Expert in Sydney who can help? My Pi adventure lasted 30 minutes. Very disappointed.

      • Ok, I did a quick test on all 3 & find no fault on it. I guess I'm lucky, touch wood.

      • sound like the same thing happended to me, NOOBS boots fine, installed Rasbian OS, black screen and unable to boot up since (only showing RED solid light, no GREEN activity) despite switching cards, re-format, re-install of Noobs.

Interested to see how your RMA goes, ive just emailed them

        • I requested a return last Friday Sydney time with the contact us form. So far nothing from Arrow.com.

        • @alvian: odd, i got a reply right away requesting a photo of the packing slip/order nr.

WiIll keep you updated how it goes

        • Any further word about this? Exact same thing happened to me on the 2 that I ordered (and I was using official power supplies as well…) Have been through every trouble shooting I can think of and nothing work… but hesitant to tell them that they booted even once because maybe they'll say it's my fault?

        • @Mr Mrrtn: Live Chat 15/8 — Arrow lost my message from the Contact Us form, if that is even possible. LC told me to write an email to [email protected]. I wrote an email and in it I referenced my raspberrypi.org post.

Having received no response to my email after more than 30 hours, I contacted LC again. LC issued a refund without asking for any more detail about the dead RPi and without offering me an option to exchange the product. LC said it is uneconomical to ship the dead RPi back to Arrow, and asked me to place a new order instead.

What has been happening with your unit, Mr Mrrtn?

        • @alvian: They offered me replacements (for the 2 dead ones I got) and said don't worry about returning the dead ones… will donate them to the local hackerspace - who knows, maybe someone will be able to resurrect them somehow

        • @kudoz: To be honest I don't know who has the worse outcome between us. You for getting replacements from possibly the same problematic batch, or I having to repurchase at a higher price.

If this batch of RPi's can fail without warning within 2 reboots, who can say they won't fail within a couple of weeks and months?

        • @alvian: Yeah I figure it's gonna be a lottery… but worst case scenario if other ones turn up dead maybe they'll still refund, who knows!

        • @alvian:

Already a report on the official forum of an RPi 3B+ failing after 2 weeks of running without a problem.

I've got a RPi 1B and 2B running 24/7 for the last year or so without a single problem.

Right now, wouldn't trust any RPi 3B+ for any use where you were counting on it to do something unattended.

        • @4wd: And the same old Boot Problems Sticky is wheeled out, as if that is the magical cure all.

      • You mention using official PSU - try several other power supplies (eg 2amp or preferably 2.5amp) 5v USB adaptors eg from an iPad or mobile phone. And a thick good quality micro USB cable.

Just in case it's a PSU fault.

        • I have already tried different PSUs, SD cards, microUSB cables, HDMI cables, monitors, distros, with & without keyboard & mouse, with & without case, and USB flash drive boot.

          @alvian:

Just followed up your post over on the official site before I realised you probably got it through the same deal.

I have the exact same problem, after one reboot the RasPi failed to do anything more than turn the Power LED on.

Tried all the same things, (been using RasPi's for years) … really think their QA screwed up on this version though.

        • @4wd: I am hesitant to repurchase another unit because of this QA problem. There's no telling how this batch of RPi's will function in the future even if they work now.

        • @4wd:
Any luck on getting it to boot?
I eventually got it to boot to Raspian strech, but then after installing updates it wouldn't boot again.
Tried NOOBS as well with no luck. Also motion blue v6. Nothing.
