I get this offer all the time and never use it because Coles Express is always significantly more expensive than other fuel outlets around me.

I usually go to Caltex Woolworths and use a 4c off voucher and discounted eGift cards.

    • I used petrolspy to check the surround fuel stations. Sometimes it is quite a good deal combined with 4c off.

      • +1

The WA Government has a requirement that all petrol stations submit their prices to them and they get displayed on www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au, and commercial TV news lists them each night.

An example of Coles Express vs Caltex Woolworth:
The cheapest Coles Express in WA today is 153.9, and tomorrow is 149.9.
The cheapest Caltex Woolworths today is 131.5, and tomorrow is 145.9 (also the cheapest overall).
CW is cheaper today. Tomorrow, CE would come to 135.9 with the 14c discount, while CW comes to 134.8 after 4c and 5% discounts.

Obviously there may be times when CE works out cheaper, or is closer, or you don't have 4c vouchers or eGift cards ready…

        • Didn't ACCC find that there was no savings using supermarket dockets? Or was that Choice …

        • @Diji1: I find there most definitely is, especially since a couple of the Caltex Woolworths locations I frequently drive past often have the lowest price in the state.

        • [@Diji1](/comment/6220151/

          It was choice.
On average, if u blindly fill up, then no. But if you fill up knowning the market price, an extra 4c is a saving of an extra 4c. My nearest station is a woolies, and at 129 it’s already 10c less than coles and bp nearby. Add on an extra 4c is handy. Plus wish cards.

  • waiting for someone to share their barcode…

    • It's a Flybuys offer; there is no barcode.

      • Possibly means their flybuys card barcode. Don't see why that couldn't work, I have my own one saved in Samsung Pay, works perfectly.

        • +2

When someone has your flybuys barcode, unless you disable the 2000pts for $10 off permanently, you will never know when that someone will start shopping with your barcode, and take $10 off using your points.

        • +2

@ausdday: I don’t know how yours is set, but with my flybuys account, you have to log in and redeem the points and set a PIN, then use the actual card like an EFTPOS card to redeem the $10

        • @kerfuffle:

I believe you have the option you mention (choose how to spend your points) or a automatic $10 deduction every 2000 points.

        • @ausdday: that redeem option you mention is only available to those having Coles credit card linked to their FlyBuys account

  • i never get them, sounds like once you use the offer, you don't get them anymore ?

    • I get one every month it seems (2 in may though) as I just checked on my credit card and I don't go there otherwise

    • I get them every so often

    • Recently every month.

This offer also tells me that VIC is nearing bottom of fuel cycle.

  • Where do I see if I have this offer ? I’ve got a card I’ve never used, do I need to have an online account or something ?

    • Yes you need to 'activate' the offer online first.

      • Yeah these fuel ones never come up in the app for me either (or an email). All I get is the spend $$ and get points ones.

  • +1

I'd need at least a 25cent voucher to make Coles match the independants price.

  • Thanks op, I usually get an email notifying me about the deal but for some reason they haven't done it this time around.

    • which means it does not apply to you.

  • Speaking of FlyBuys is anyone else p**sed off with the new FlyBuys Android startup screen that stays static for over a minute. Like Coles staff and customers have time to wait so I can see some stupid promo when all I want is my online FlyBuys card.

    • The splash screen is up for less than a second for me.

    • Yup app takes ages to load up, sits on the splash screen for ages on my Axon 7.

  • …i swear there was one already on this…..

EDIT: nvm it was expired…carry on, nothing to see here….

  • Just me give me the diesel discount.

  • In general, the competitiveness of Coles in the retail fuel sector is an absolute joke. I don’t understand their business model unless they somehow have a large percentage of major business accounts on their books.

I can’t remember the last time I filled up at one of their servos.

  • Interesting that the planned change of alliance by Woolworths from Caltex to BP failed in the end. Now Woolworths and Caltex are in a new 15 year deal.
