Which 3 Companies Have You Learned to Hate? Mine are 1=Jetstar; 2=Telstra; 3=BankSA

I now hate dealing with Jetstar more than Telstra and BankSA.

JetStar - Why I've learned to hate Jetstar #1

Short Version
I tried to make a booking on JetStar's website and got multiple errors leading me to call Jetstar to book a flight. Even though they eventually acknowledged the website error was not my browser, they then hit me up for a phone booking fee, got the booking wrong, charged me more that quoted on the phone, and cant send me a receipt/itinerary. Took 5 calls (so far) and I've spent longer booking the flights than we will be on the flights.

Long version - TLDR

  • call centre people have no authority to fix problems and wont let you talk to a supervisor
  • phone call back system doesnt work (press 1 nothing happens)
  • Jetstar charge extra to have an infant on your lap
  • website gives lots of errors
  • cant connect call centre flight bookings to your Jetstar account
  • complaint email is hidden
  • cant get a copy of our itinerary - each time they say just wait 24 hours and nothing happens
  • my friend had a Jetstar flight cancelled last week and instead of refunding they tried to pass him off with a conditional voucher. After a formal complaint they eventually got the correct refund but now also hates Jetstar.

PS Jetstar complaints email is …. [email protected]

Telstra #2 - self explanatory - always a hassle - bill often wrong, call centre a joke.

BankSA #3 - they couldn't organise to increase our credit card limit online or over the phone, or paperless statements (for an OS trip). I had to go into a branch twice (for a paper form they wanted me to fax back?!?). In the end it was easier to get a new credit card from another bank, so I did !

Harvey Norman for sure, purchased a laptop from them 2 weeks ago, it broke the second day of owning it. I went back in store to return it and get a refund, the salespeople tried to push for a replacement model or fix which I didn’t want. Eventually got a refund. Not the first time I’ve had an unpleasant experience with Harvey Norman.

    • +1

Dad got convinced to buy a $400+ router (god knows why he agreed to it), it didn't work well at all and constantly disconnected. We went back to the store and the guy tried almost every trick in the book to stop him from returning it.

      • Hope you still got a refund for it. Even when I was in store trying to get a refund it took a while for them to process, I felt like they were trying to delay it thinking I would eventually accept a replacement or a fix on my laptop. Went to Jb Hifi as soon as I got my refund and purchased another laptop.

        • +1

          They did refund it.

We're also huge fans of The Good Guys. I think they call it the concierge service, but some products if you pay extra I think you get an extended warranty or something. Anyway a few years ago we bought a vacuum from the with that plan, and so far it's died 3 times, and each time they give us a whole new vacuum no questions asked lol

When my contract ran out I went in to cancel it as I had 2 years without reception in my area. When I went in to cancel they told me that they have just finished building a new tower near my house and I will have great reception. When I enquired why my current phone still had bad reception they said my phone was not compatible with the tower but if I took out a new plan with the latest phone that I will have no issue. They then offered me a 2 week trial and if I wasn't happy I could return the phone and will not be charged a cent. I took it home, had it for 3 or 4 days and returned it, as I still had no reception. They cancelled the contract and took the phone back. I then had a ~$2000 charge come out of my bank account for cancelling the contract. They also misplaced the phone at the store and it took me 6 months to get my money back. I am normally very polite when I call a call centre but by the end of it I was so angry that when someone picked up the phone and said how can I "help" you, I was so enraged that I would just start uncontrollably shouting and swearing at the person on the other end (not proud of this). I was just dealing with person after person who would promise to follow it up, look into it, fix it and call me back and wouldn't. I was so enraged and will never use them again.

    2- Nespresso.

Purchased a coffee machine and got the free $90 of pods but I buy my pods in bulk and had just bought enough to last me ~6 months. Someone from Nespresso called me and asked if I wanted to use it, I had plenty of coffee and asked if it expired because I would rather hold on to it, was told it didn't expire. In the meantime my fiance purchased more pods when we were low. When I finally went to redeem it I was told that it expired. They offered to send me 3 free sleeves of coffee for my inconveniance. I told them not to bother and haven't purchased another nespresso branded pod since.

    3- Puratap.
Charge you $190 for someone who isn't even a qualified plumber to change your filter, which takes all of 5 minutes. You can't buy puratap filters and change it yourself so I replaced their system with one from my plumbing store and now it only costs me $70 to buy one and change it myself. It was only $50 more than their $190 service to change the entire system.

    1. Very surprised no-one has said Vaya, they make telstra look like the salvation army. Absolute nightmare company to escape from.

    2. Apple. Forced an update on my 4th gen ipod touch 8ish years ago ($400 range) that bricked it. Took it to Apple and at the time they refused my warranty claim just 2 months over. Never bought again and glad to see they have gone further divisive with their antics.

    3. CBA. Endless fees. Pure greed, capitalism on steroids.

Special mention to HP with their bloat/spyware filled overpriced craptops.

The Catholic Church. All other churches. And the Russian space program.

  • Probably already mentioned, but Facebook, Apple and Twitter for curtailing and banning certain right-wing perspectives.

Yes people like Alex Jones are bat poo crazy, but to ban them only creates a Streisand Effect and then media pundits wonder why polarisation is occurring.

    • -1

So a stand should not be taken against racism, hate speech, damaging lies? Because…. By doing so it gives more publicity to the rubbish? In such a world, when would anyone ever take a stand?

Polarisation is occurring, among other reasons, because so many more people do not have critical thinking skills, many having been brought up to believe that 'everyone's opinion is equal', or that there are two sides to every question. (You may have an opinion or a belief that gravity is a myth, but there's only one side to that argument when you step off a cliff.)

      • Yes. When am I going to hear about panelists interviewing socialists and commies on News Corp?

Seems quite balanced. Social media is far left. Paper media is far right. In the middle is you.

      • +1

By doing so it gives more publicity to the rubbish? In such a world, when would anyone ever take a stand?

Agree it gives them publicity, but it doesn't give them respectability. By banning these nutters all you're doing is legitimising their platform, embolden their followers and cause people to question the narrative (real or perceived) around them.

Better off letting them live in their fantasy world with all eyes on them, rather than them going underground. A great example of this in Australia is Hizb ut-Tahrir- the Australian government sensibly does not ban them

"When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say"- George RR Martin

        • Facebook, Twitter, etc have banned people for violating their terms and conditions relating to hate speech, etc.

These people are not denied free speech; they can still promulgate their views via countless methods. Including standing on a milk crate and spruiking their dark little hearts out in Federation Square should they so desire.

The specific issue here was large private platforms choosing to enforce their own rules. By doing so they send a legitimate message that they do not accept that kind of hate speech, etc. For corporations whose main purpose is to make a profit this is a welcome and ethic stand.

I agree 100% with you regarding not silencing dissenting voices. Healthy democracy needs dissent, even ratbags like Alex Jones or Ismail al-Wahwah.

  • 1) Harvey Norman - for Gerry Harvey lobbying the Government for a GST on all imports. From now until all time, every time I see GST my imports, I wish the plague on Gerry. And as a result Amazon US is now unavailable to us! Just so Gerry can still be a billionaire. A PLAGUE ON YOU GERRY HARVEY!!!!!

    2) Citibank - They are a nightmare to hold any accounts with. In my opinion ridiculous charges and fees, and terrible customer service with foreign call centre staff you can't understand, and wait times are pathetic. Truly horrible. Charging fees on 'manual statements' all of sudden, even though months prior I'd been receiving electronically… I had never requested that change but they started charging for it all the same. Worst bank to deal with!!!

    3) Telstra - For almost the same reasons as Citibank… except far easier to bin and go to another provider (once you actually get to speak to a human on the phone, which could take an hour).

I hope and pray these 3 companies go bankrupt or have some massive failure that forces them to close. Hate isn't a strong enough word for my feelings on them!

  • Maquarie Bank.

Denied a home loan because I'm self employed and they requested the previous years tax return. Tax return said tax debt of $x which is pretty normal, which was paid after lodgement.

They recognized this as 'unpaid taxes' and flat out denied the application.

    • did you manage to get a loan? from whom?

      • To make matters worse that was a refinancing of 2 properties with an LVR of like….60%? So it wasn't exactly high risk.

This was actually really recently - Mortgage broker reapplied and explained the situation to them so we're still waiting. I'd like to go elsewhere but unfortunately Maquarie's structure regarding multiple offset accounts and differing property ownership is exactly what we'd like.

  • 1 - Qantas (international) - had to cancel a flight. Still waiting on a refund over 6 months later, with over 5+ phone calls to their useless customer service department with wait times of almost an hour before getting through to anyone.

It's taken so long that I've since cancelled the credit card the purchase was on, and of course they can only refund to the card that the purchase was made, so I now have to ring the bank to find out if the money has been deposited in to the closed account to be transferred to an active account before ringing Qantas, adding more time to the process…

Not to mention some of there sub par blu-ray releases.

    Centerlink
Always engaged. Takes forever just to get through. Wait times are atrocious when you finally get through. Last time it took around two hours on hold just to talk and get transferred to the right department to get any information. Not the overage 15mins reported in the news Worst on hold music (Same Vivaldi classical piece endlessly repeated).

    Energy Australia
When renewing power and gas bundle deal. Wouldn't honour there internet advertised deal. Called several times and threatened to cancel and switch. Just given the run around.

  • Suncorp

When I first got a car, insured for $1300/yr, didnt receive renewal & crashed 2 days after insurance renewal. Got investigated (recorded & in person) and proved had new renewal funds avail at the time, got told to pay renewal of $1100 and cover would continue from the renewal date, rang a week later about my claim, got told 'no current insurance at time of claim' went and asked for my money back, received $800 - will never deal with them again.

    NBN

For operating a national non-customer facing company & blatantly misusing tax payers money to band-aid the existing infrastructure whilst lining their pockets.

  • JB HiFi, becuase they refused to price match an identical product by claiming that they include extra warranty, and that makes the product different and not eligible for their price match promise, which in theory excludes their entire range.

I only went there because I was impatient and wanted it now. Ended up ordering from the original retailer on the way to the car from my phone and it arrived the next day.

  • Ticketek
    Telstra
    Can't think of a third.

  • Apple - Anti-consumer behaviour. Always trying to shift blame on the consumer.

Facebook and Youtube - Policies mean you can get punished without any explanation, right of appeal or recourse whatsoever. In the case of Facebook you can be blocked from all communication - even private communication with friends and family. Yet they want you to rely on them.

    1. Ticketek/Ticketmaster for their exbortinant fees
Also Viagogo for preying on people wanting to buy tickets to anything and stinging customers.

    2. GraysOnline - great prices, but they don't care about anything after point of sale. And their refurbs aren't all that great

    3. Apple for always being focused on profits and just passing the buck.

Bonus - Sydney Trains/TrainLink/NSW Transport. This needs no explanation. I can count on one hand the amount of days where I haven't been delayed at least once in a day.

This was the only way to purchase anything, water etc and had to be topped up in $5 increments, minimum $10 first load, $2.5 fee for the band and remaining amount couldn't be refunded unless balance was $5 or more. There was also a $2 refund fee which was later removed.

Thing that sucks is that I can't change ISP's as ADSL is just as bad as Optus's crappy HFC network but instead I can only get 4 megabit tops using ADSL.

On the bright side I did just get a letter about my place being eligible for NBN in a few months 1 year early. (I believe they did a trial nearby so this isn't normal) I am so glad I can tell optus to go and screw themselves finally.
