    • Taxes and fuel surcharges NOT included

thats a no from me dawg

    • +1

      Tru dat.

Check out the QF or SIA taxes and surcharges on a redemption flight.
Some taxes cost more than the actual flight on sale…

  • +13

    Purchased.

    • I find this condition interesting:

After the product expires, passengers who have not used all the flights can redeem them for Hainan Airlines regular-priced international tickets at a value of AUD 11,000 per round trip. If the regular-priced ticket is cheaper, no refund is given, but if it is more expensive, the passenger must pay the difference.

So if it expires you can still use them for other cities but may have to pay more.

    • Are you selling 'family' memberships via the classifieds?

  • $1,100 for return business class sound pretty amazing (even if you have to add taxes and fuel surcharges) but the killer is the $33K upfront

    • +8

The killer is taxes & fuel surcharges.

    • it's not as amazing when compared to other airlines business class. The price for a Type R Business class from Brisbane to Shanghai is 2069.00. Tax/surcharge are $186.33.

Unless you are making 30 flights over 3 years it seems to much risk to pay $33,000 in advance.

You also miss out on Base Award Points: 10460 for each flight.

    Two main things:

    1) It's only Hainan Airlines, not its subsidiaries

    2) If Hainan Airlines goes the way of its chairman, I doubt you get your money back. This move stinks of a company that's having cashflow problems.

    • +5

…and it appears to be just return flights to/from Australia and China.

      • ya….the destination drop down box in the promotional page only shows Chinese cities.

        • +1

It's probably not a stretch to imagine that's a pretty popular route here. However, as others have said, it excludes all taxes & surcharges which are the main costs in a flight.

    • +2

Does sound dodgy, but I applaud innovative pricing models.
I'm sure there is somebody making this trip twice a month for business or something who is delighted.

  • +13

got 10 of these before they ran out

  • So which three people want to share?
$8,250 for 7 return business flights each!

    • +1

One has to be <21or >60

    • +1

      Something is not adding up.

Wouldn't it be better 3 people $8k each for 7 flight. And you pay $9k since you are getting 9 flights instead of 7.

  • +2

Chicken rice better be included. Bought 10.

    • +3

Hainanese chicken rice is from a modified chicken dish from Hainan. The Hainan version does not serve with rice. :-)

      • Ty

        • Some of the best Hainan chicken rice I've had is in Perth.. it's hard to find in the other cities but it's like a national dish for Perthites

        • @Wampus: and where do I find these chicken rice in Perth?

        • +1

@cray: I dont live there now, but ask a Perthy for good recommendations

    Wowowowo

  • Must fly to communist China. Boooo

  • " Applicable fare class and routes: Product fare class R, applicable to Hainan Airlines flights on Australia routes departing from China or overseas."

It's not clear to me what destinations it is applicable to.

    • Reading between the lines of what is stated here, I would hazard it is any direct flight between an Australian city and a Chinese city ticketed on a HU operated flight. Some examples to me would be
      SYD-HAK
      SYD-CSX
      SYD-XIY
      MEL-XIY
      BNE-SZX

This is a great deal > IF < you can make it work to your schedule

Good for the Daigou who wants to travel in style. Business class means more luggage allowance to take stuff there lol

    • +1

What's the baggage allowance? Do I have to fly or can I just put baby formula in my seat?

      • What's the baggage allowance?

32 kg (70 lb) for Business Class

Do I have to fly or can I just put baby formula in my seat?

You have to accompany the baby formula.

  • If you have this money, what should I do?

    • +1

If I have the money I will buy it. You should be saving the money so you can buy it too :)

    • If you have this money, you should give some to charity. Too many people starving while you are munching on Hainan ckicken in business class 10000m above.

  • Yeti Airways had a similar deal before they crashed (literally)

  • I think they've shot themselves in the foot with the restricted fare bucket and 14-day lead time. I'm also curious about what insurance you can get against the airline going bad - eg would travel insurance cover loss of tickets purchased, in theory, 3 years ahead of time.

  • +1

Chinese company. Once you've given them your money, you're screwed. Good luck getting what they promised. It won't happen.

    • Maybe I'm being harsh, but i bet some people experience this issue.

  • Hainan airline owns part of Virgin Australia i think.
Does anyone know if you have GOLD status with Hainan airline then do you also get Velocity Gold matched?

    • +1

Highly unlikely - in any case, even if they did they would not match the Hainan Gold from this deal as it has not been obtained through actual flights. You'll probably be able to wave your Hainan card to get into the Virgin lounge if you are flying Virgin. As an aside, in the fine print it notes that "Flights taken using this product do not count towards award points."

  • Flights purchased using this fare do not count toward Award Points - whatever that means

  • +1

The HNA group's cashflow has been suffering from a huge debt ($94 billion USD in 2017) since a few years ago. This really looks like a desperate measure to keep the company afloat. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole myself

  • No idea where this airline flys … but I've seen economy fares SYD-PVG for under $400 … so this still work out at 3x per trip by the time you add in taxes.

Might be good if you can fly during peak times on this fare.

  • Took out a personal loan for loan for 7 years for 33k. Will do BT for 2 years and keep doing it over again.

    • What??

  • It's GONE NOOO
