    • Got beaten as above
I love competition, come on rep…you can do better than this! :)

      • +12

Ok, I've asked for additional discount, $625 now.

However to be fair, please consider the fact that Mobicity's price (and many other parallel importers) is for an overseas version of these handsets.
The overseas version come with non-AU ac charger (they will normally supply you with the converter plug - extra bulk) and will not be covered by HTC Australia service centre.

        • +4

Now that's a true bargain but pity I can't give you a big fat +ve due to I already retracted my vote.
          +1 for your action!

    • +3

      Mobicity is not Australian stock.

      • -7

Here is another one for $609 from a 100% Australian operated site. says that all aussie stock will come with manufacturers warranty. I cant verify that this is the actual aussie model, but still cheap.

          Hi,

Those websites who claim to be 100% Australian operated such as becex/mobicity are selling parallel imported handsets.

Parallel imports are cheaper and we can easily beat those price if we are to supply exactly same stock they sell (parallel import stock with store-own warranty instead of HTC Australia warranty).

          Please consider this fact.

  • -7

Yep cheaper elsewhere as seen above in kick's post

  • -7

I got mine on $49 cap for this ~$650 from Voda

    • +1

you forgot to mention upfront HS
and you can't get this deal now

  • +1

"Non A-tick approved phone means that the handset is illegal to be connected to the Australian network"

Gotta love protectionism and the high prices they bring. I wonder if anyone takes that seriously, give they all meet the same GSM standards and all fall off the same production lines in China.

    Sigh, government sanctioned cons.

    • +1

anyway to check if a product is A-tick approved, apart from the supplier just saying it is?

      • +2

Yes, you can find this a-tick logo which resembles triangle with tick on it at the back of the handset inside the battery compartment. It's normally next to where the IMEI number is.
You can also ring the manufacturer (i.e. HTC) and confirm the IMEI number with them to check whether it is an Australian stock or not.

“Non A-tick approved phone means that the handset is illegal to be connected to the Australian network”

      That made me ROFL

      • +5

Yeah, I have to admit some of the law in this country do not make sense and purely red tape.
However that statement is not made up, it's taken from ACMA's website:
        http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_1728

        • +2

Why is a non A-tick approved illegal to be connected to the Australian network?
Are all the international visitors conducting illegal activities by not using a non A-tick approved phone and connecting it to any Australian network?

          That law is extremely flawed.

        • It's not flawed. Read the requirements on the ACMA website sunshine. There are exemptions for situations where tourists bring their phone etc.

Obviously you are having trouble understanding a pretty simple regulation. Read the ACMA website for further information.

      • -1

Why? Because you don't understand the legal requirement, or you don't understand the potential implications of a non compliant device?

        • I'm just confused on where the government stand in enforcing the A-tick requirement. There are so many resellers who blatantly sell device which is not A-tick compliant and yet they flourished for years without being noticed.

your not doing very well for your ozbargain name: 'mobilebargainhunter'.

  • not a bargain

  • +6

    Good deal.

PLEASE NOTE that if you don't purchase Aus stock phones the maps that you get for HTC locations are for whatever region it is.

I bought from mobicity a while ago and ended up with a Thai version of the handset with maps for Thailand, which i'll obviously need because I can't resist the ridiculously cheap rolexes they have over there.

Contacted HTC to see if i could exchange my registration key for Thailand for an Aussie version but got no love from Happy Taiwanese Corporation.

Should have waited for this deal. Damn talking 8 ball from from dealsdirect is a scam.

    • Really? My HTC from MobiCity was fine - I just plugged it in and downloaded the Australian maps.

  • -1

    expensive

  • +6

Others/Mod should retract -ves since this deal is better now and it's OZ stock!

  • +1

Definitely a +ve given this is Oz stock!

  • +1

Good deal regardless of what others say. Yes, you can get it cheaper elsewhere, but not Australian stock ;)

  • well get a plan via vodafone then…its free unlock say you will pay someone 500 to take over the plan i am sure u will find that heaps cheaper:P

    • Can a plan be transferred to someone else?

  • -1

    I am waiting for a cheap dual-processor Samsung Galaxy S II :)

    • -2

keep waiting mate while we all having with this baby :)

  • I've had mine through Vodafone for a few months now, the price has come down a lot. With these being Australian and unlocked I'm spewin' I didn't wait longer. Much better option.

What ROM version do they come with though? As most of them are branded for their carrier, which means how do you get an update to 2.3 when, and if, that comes out?!

I know I have to wait for Vodafone if and when they are able too release it.

    • +1

I too bought one through Voda many months ago, and yes the prices are coming down, but don't beat yourself up over buying it as an early adopter - if that was the case, then you'd have missed out on having it in your hands over the last few months. The Desire HD is an exceptional phone in many ways, and I've enjoyed using it these past few months while others waited for the price to come down… with that said, I'd recommend it to anyone thinking of getting a big screen phone.

  • Please stock the Galaxy S2 (16GB and 32GB) versions when it is released and make it competitive! Post a deal on Ozbargain.

I, too, am very unhappy with Mobicity. I was going to purchase a Galaxy S from UK considering it's around a $150 cheaper than Mobicity. But I worried about warranty and stuff and bought it from Mobicity instead for nearly $200 more including shipping. Turned out exactly as the OP described. It wasn't Australian and it came from Singapore with adapters and Singtel branding on the back.

Anyway. I know Mobicity will honour warranty and all, but I just feel ripped off because I thought I was paying extra for Australian stock and they sent me an imported model anyway. I've bookmarked you guys and waiting on Galaxy S2!

    • Just out of interest aside from not knowing it was a foreign branded phone, do you like it?

      • Yeah. Galaxy S is a fantastic device. But, it's just that if I knew Mobicity were sending me a phone from Singapore, I'd have bought mine from the UK.

  • +1

I just hope Samsung doesn't shortchange Australia by sending SLCD single-core versions here. Hope they're the SuperAMOLED+ dual-core versions.

If someone wants to get an international model I came across this $564. I spoke to one of their team and they said there is no branding on it and it will also load local maps for your location.

  • +1

    This phone truly rocks.
Ive had the HTC Hero, Desire, Nexus one and now the Desire HD. It is so much faster than the others and the screen size is great, i just wish it was AMOLED…
Best phone that is currently out IMO.

  • Okay price. Not bad, but still not enough to make me cave in (already packing Legend/IP4), but it's probably the best Android phone available in Australia right now until NA models come over.

  • +1

Bit late for good deals on DHD. New Androids will be coming up and DHD is a crap handset comapre to say SGS2

  • Just bought one following the above link. Just received an email telling me that although its in stock it will be another 3 business days before dispatch because of the vodafone unlocking process.
