  • Are the extra parts really essential. How often do the filters need to be changed for instance

    • I've had mine since November and for some reason it has started to do a really poor job of picking up anything from the floor. We've just ordered a new brush and filter, but looking at the recommendations on the app, the filter needs to be replaced approximately yearly

    • +3

I've run mine for 1155 minutes (essentially 20 hours) and its current status is:

      • Filter at 87%, replace in 131h
      • Side Brush at 90%, replace in 181h
      • Main Brush at 93%, replace in 281h
      • Sensors at 36%, clean in 11h
      • +1

        Following your comment:

        Total Time 1819 minutes
        Total Area 1613m2

After 30 hrs mine is at:
Filter 80% - Replaced it yesterday with a washable one so now 100%.
        Side Brush 85%
        Main Brush 90%
Sensors need to be cleaned as of todays clean.

        • Where did you get the washable filter from?

        • +1

@Domingo: they're are about 12 bucks on aliexpress.

    • I bought spares, but haven't used them yet.
      For exact stats:
      I've had mine a year, it's done 63 cleans - 1365 minutes and 1261m2.
It says filter is at 84% (replace in 127 h), side brush 88% (replaces in 177h), main brush 92% (replaces in 277h) and sensors 23% (clean in 7h).

However, I regularly clean the main brush, since it's always full of human and/or cat hair, and occasionally wash the side brush, since it seems to do a really good job of wiping gunk off its own wheel.

    • +3

I've had one for almost a year to the day, it goes off every day and I haven't changed anything yet. Main brush is probably due for a replacement but fine for now and I use toilet paper over the filter, swapping for new toilet paper maybe twice a week and the filter is like brand new. Side brush needs replacing because it caught something and twisted itself strangely.

  • Slightly off topic, anyone know if we can get any spares for these? A lightning strike seemed to kill my docking station. Vacuum still works perfectly, but it's having to share a docking station with the other one downstairs which is a pain.

Common ozbargain community…sweep the floor yourself and save $330 and invest in eneloops or something.

My Xiaomi sees the black patterns on my rug as "cliffs" and goes apeshit crazy trying to avoid them. because my rug is full of black designs it just spazzes out and eventually gives up.

Pretty ridiculous to think it would have such a problem but apparently it's a thing. I have to put tape over the cliff sensors.

    • I believe you can put tape over the cliff sensor to fix that.

Might be a problem if you have stairs though…

  • +16

With a strong power, the robot absorbs all the debris, steel beads, soybeans, dust, millet or any other wastes all in a sudden

Finally something that can cope with all the soybeans lying around my living room.

    • +7

Not to mention all the damn steel beads I keep dropping everywhere.

    • +2

lol - I was more having a millet problem just lying around waiting to be absorbed, so personally I am glad there is a three dimensional vacuum system that can now fix that problem in a sudden - Finally so smooth I will be able to walk with bare feet on the floor after all these years!

Maybe I shouldn't have been using those two dimensional drawings of vacuum cleaners to clean my millet before?

    • Pop it in the garden when it’s time to harvest

  • Does anyone know if 'washable' filters (like the ones in the 2nd Gen version) - can be found for the 1st Gen ??

    • +2

      Maybe Clem Fandango would know?

      • I knew it was you

      • Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango….

    • +1

      Toast of London!

    • +2

The 2nd gen's washable filters definitely fit the exact same - saw it in a YouTube video somewhere…

  • I'm really keen to get one. I've heard good things about it. I'm just wondering if you guys have experienced any issues getting it working on dark carpets. Thanks!

    • +1

It's not the best on carpets, and does have trouble with dark black colours, but you can get around it by covering up the cliff sensors.

It really excels on flat floors and does okay with low rugs. So it would depend on how shaggy your carpet is.

    • I've got a black carpet. Works perfectly fine.

It's a shaggy one too. The only thing I do prior to vacuuming is fold the carpet back.

    • I have a darkish carpet and it seems to work fine! This vacuum has changed my life!

  • +1

Thanks OP, was waiting for this deal. Got one!

  • Good price.. any deal with 2nd Gen? Too lazy to mop the floor

    • +1

I believe there is a deal coming up for the 2nd gen soon, so keep an eye out :) Not 100% sure when though.

  • Anyone had any experience with one of these and a Neato for a comparison?

    • I have both, Mi is better with hard floors, Neato is better at rugs because of the black issue with the Mi.

  • +1

What is this English display. The vacuum doesn't have a display.

Surely the english voice pack and power is just Shoppro opening the box and changing the settings?

    • +2

Global english verison was supplied by xiaomi with english voice and english manual. Control pannel display at power on and go home section was display in English Now. Please check main picture 2.

      • Oh awesome. Thats great. Will get even more people to buy one now. Nice work. Didn't know they'd even started offering this.

    • This is global english version. English voice pack come with manufacture setting, English Manual come with package as well.

      • Just out of curiosity, is shopro and Gearbite the same companies?

        • +1

Yes. I ordered from both, came from same place.

  • Can anyone with this please tell me if there's an edge cleaning mode? I use this heavily at home as a lot of dust and hair collects along the walls (most of the house is floorboards).
In fact my current vacuum is used in edge mode almost exclusively. Kinda want a better one but to do the same.

    Cheers.

    • Yep it has a spinning brush on one side that drags everything into the vac path. Works fine.

    • +1

There's no edge cleaning mode, but when you first start the clean up, it generally tries to map out the rooms by following edges (with the little brush).
I guess you could just cancel the clean when it had done the edges you wanted.

  • Will this go back to where the charger is when it senses low charge?

    • +2

Mine goes back around 18%. It then resumes where it left off.

  • Anyone able to advise how to do the zone cleaning on the Gen 1, I cant find it in the app anywhere.

    • It needs to do a clean first to suss out the room, then select the zone from the map it has drawn and hey presto.

      • I have plenty of maps from previous cleans. The only option is to share the map. If I look at the last map on the main screen, can only zoom in or out and the usual Dock, Clean, Balanced buttons.

        • I think it has to be the most recent clean, then select zone clean. You may need to upgrade software. My firmware is 3.3.9_003254.

        • @codfish: Thanks mate, I have the latest app version, also no FW updates available but no zone clean option. Ill keep working on it.

        • @codfish: Interesting my FW is 3.3.9_003170. Says its the latest.

        • @ddr0001: 3.3.9 sorry. Mi home version 5.0.19. Zoned cleanup icon appears at the bottom right.

    • Please try to clean cache at setting of mi home app and try to connect your device with Singapore serve. Mi Home may ask you to update your firmware then. Hope this will help.

      • +1

Thanks, found when I changed to Mainland China, re-added the device, it asked for the FW update, I now have the Zone Cleaning. Thanks to @codfish also.

        • Hi ddr0001, did you get a message forcing you to revert to a 'local region' after changing the region to Mainland China? I was able to see Zone Cleaning when I change the region to China but was unable to use the Mi Robot. After changing back to Singapore, the Zone Cleaning button disappears.

        • @megabytez: I'm also having the same issue. Please let me know if you have found a solution. Cheers

        • @megabytez:

Still seems to be working for me. I must say im quite disappointed in zone cleaning, its very unreliable. More often than not it gives up without much effort and just says it couldn't access some areas. Areas that are 100% accessible.

        • +1

@ddr0001: This has been an issue for some time with the Global Version. New EU data laws have prompted Xiaomi to be very conservative with their Global version. It won't be allowed to hook into the Mainland China server, and therefore you're missing zoned cleanup and Go.

I bought the Chinese version from a previous Shopro deal, works fine. I've since recommended it onto my friends, who've bought the global version. They've both been unable to get into Mainland China server.

I think Shopro should be making a note of this for future promos.

  • @shopro Is Tax invoice provided so that TRS can be claimed?

    • They send the invoice via email. You could print the pdf by yourself.

  • Is it true that the Chinese government are in fact using these to spy on us?

    • +5

Sure are. From your vacuuming habits to even how often you clean your butt. All monitored by them.

      • how often you clean your butt

I'm assuming you need the Xiaomi toilet seat for that? I was hoping that feature was incorporated into the vacuum

        • If your ass is like a dark rug the vacuum will struggle

    • +9

Yes they map out the layout and size of your house to see if they want to buy it at over inflated prices. I let my vac run outside to make the house look massive. :)

  • Is it possible to control the cleaner from outside the home through the app e.g forgetting to schedule it on when you’ve got to work. Or only if the app is connected to the same wifi network?

Anyone had experience with these types of units with settting off alarm systems?

    • Yes you can - I don't think it would activate an alarm.

    • You can start the vacuum from the app in any location with internet, it doesn't have to be the same WiFi.

I received a call from a security company saying the alarm went off, turns out it was just the vacuum.

  • OP Any deal for Roidmi F8 ?

  • +1

Slightly strange but very serious question: how does it handle le poop?

I have a small dog who likes to poop and pee in the house, normally on my shoes or in the sliding door track (dafuq?).

Would it be a situation like in the movies where I come home to poop snail trails everywhere, or can it detect "shit like that"?

    • It'll run over the shit. Hopefully it's not runny but either way you'll have it all over your floor.

    • +1

it can't detect the presents and will smear it into the carpet and brush/filter. very annoying.

    • Cheers; very disappointed but definitely glad I didn't have to become that way through a horrible experience.

  • Anyone know how it handles little raises/drops in floor height? There's some skirting connecting the tiles and floorboards - maybe a 5mm difference in height. Will it go up/down them okay?

    • +2

have similar height and its fine.

    • +1

      It will be fine

    • Just make sure your difference is no more than 15mm. I had to make a ramp on my floor boards for my 27mm drop between the hall and bedrooms.

  • Thanks. Came hoping to find a bargin on 1 of these

  • +1

Does anyone know if it moves fast enough to set off home alarm PIR sensors?
I'm installing more sensors through my house (just one right now) but would consider my alarm working more important than a robot vacuum… But kinda really want a robot vacuum….

    • There are 4 different speed settings in the app, no idea if that would help or not.

      • The 4 Speeds modes are low balanced Turbo and Full. These are all the Vacumme suction speed. I have no Idea if it would set off alarm. I have Mi Occupant senser and have never checked

    • Yes, it will set off the alarm. The speeds relate to the suction power.

  • I have been considering buying one of these but I am concerned whether it will work on my carpets. Does anyone know if it will work on solid black short pile carpet?

    • Short carpet is fine.

I have those shaggy rugs from Ikea and they can't go up on those.

  • I have a some hills and bumps inbetween rooms.. bad carpet laying down job

will the robot be fine for most of these.. they are not major but noticeable enough even for a human to feel the change in elevation

    • Should be right

  • I adore mine. It’s only weakness that i can’t overcome is tassels. All my rugs have tassels.

    • Cut those sobs off

  • Thanks doweyy, loved mine so much from the last deal decided to get one for the mother in law for her birthday.
