How are these sets so expensive now? When I was a kid, the most expensive Technic set was about $200 (this was around 1989).

    • +2

      Piece count

    • +5

$200 in 1989 is worth more comparing $600 in 2018.

But honestly I agree that these new lego sets RRPs are overpriced. I didn’t buy myself, I posted the deal as I know lots people are interested in this set.

    • +2

Probably partly to the cost of the right to us Bugatti Chiron brand and design. Still expensive though.

      • yep, i thought wow that's expensive, but 'inflation'.

I was gifted the 8880 back when it was new and it was circa $200-250 with 1300 pieces.

on a cents/piece this is actually better value.

just read the review on brickset and it looks impressive, especially the drivetrain.

Well back then you didn't have franchise brands and also didn't get sets with 16 cylinder moving piston engines and 8 speed working transmissions

    • Time Value of Money

    • +4

Based on the RBA's inflation calculator, $200 from 1989 was worth $415.41 in 2017 per https://www.rba.gov.au/calculator/annualDecimal.html

      • except for house prices

  • +9

Looks like a totalled Bugatti Chiron you'd see at the wreckers tbh… lol

    • +1

Haha, I was going to say the same thing. Real one has smooth curved body, this just have straight jagged pieces. Ugly.

    • +1

Agreed… I also thought the same for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS Lego too.

I love my super cars and Lego, but couldn't see all the fuss and popularity in these two.

Side note, I ordered myself the Voltron Lego last night… Now that's a cool piece and looks very close to the actual representation of it!

  • +1

Its a nice set. Lots of pieces and has 8 speed gearbox that works. Also you need to pay for the Bugatti royalties. I dont think youll find these any cheaper in the next few months to a year. Specially with the 10% Cashrewards applied to it.

  • What a deal! Works out to be around $430 after CR. Thanks for that

  • cant buy them anymore? I was going to get another.

    • yep, i've missed out

      .

      • damn :( hopefully my order gets fulfilled.

      • they are in stock now! try again!

  • +5

Haha DJ online, get ready for your sorry we couldn't fill your order emails. And then you have to phone them to organise your money back

shouldn't encourage counterfeit items. If you buy, youre just giving them business to keep going. How would you feel if you engineered/designs a product for months and someone copied and sold for half price and you lost all your effort because someone stole your design.

      • -5

Fair enough… but I wouldnt be surprised if its made at the same company and wholesaler. The mark up that lego puts on is because of advertising and brand, not value. But you make a valid comment and everyone should do what they feel ok with.

What abuot design and construction and millions of hours of great creative thinkers who give their life to make things like this possible??

    • Wish is hot trash. I wouldn't even send my enemy their way.

  • Still too much. It'll get down to $350 imo.

  • The offer listed on the page is:

Save 20% on full-priced LEGO. Excludes Millenium Falcon. Discount applied in shopping

  • How many hours does something like this take to put together?

    • i would say about 7-10 hours. The 911 GT3 is about 7 hours.

      • I dont know if i would have the patience or time to do that.
The little one absorbs every spare minute i have these days

        • The instructions will be ordered bag by bag, so you can divide it easily into manageable time periods, no need to do it all at once.

  • +1

    I don't think it's available anymore?

"Sorry, this colour / size combination is not currently available."

    • same i think out of stock

  • Too expensive for what you get

  • How long has DJ's 10% cashrewards bonus been running for?

  • Damm missed out

  • -2

    Band 28?

  • Better than the porsche?

  • They will just cancel your order

  • LEGO is pretty big on OzBargain, I just can't justify spending ~$500 on pieces of plastic that click together

    • +2

well its good that it was $435 after CW. Can justify now

  • Does this have all 17 radiators?

  • Whats RRP on these?

  • Was back in stock just now

  • Edit: N/m

  • Looks like I lost the opportunity to afford a Chiron lol

    • twice!

  • +1

    Back in stock

    • And gone

    • strange that it's 24 hours after last time of "back in stock".

      .

  • anyone had orders cancelled? refunded? fulfilled?

    .

    • Status: At dispatch

  • I just snapped one of these up but this is my first order through ozbargain and DJ's - how do I get the 10% cashback? I clicked on the cashback button and nothing appeared to happen.

    • Ok, so I tried again and it took me to the cashback site - but I ordered directly from the deal link so does that mean I've missed out on the discount? It's all very confusing to be honest, there's no instructions or anything on what you're supposed to do to get the cashnack.

      • You would need to go to the DJ website THROUGH cashrewards website. Otherwise they won't be able to track your purchase and you won't get the cashback. This is the reason I added the Cashrewards notifier to my Google Chrome so they pop up if the website I am looking at have some sort of cashback scheme with them.

        • Thanks for letting me know - I wasnt logged in when I clicked the deal link and ordered the set so didn't know about the cashback until later, kicking myself now but what the hell - it's ordered now and $479 is still a very good price.
