Samsung S9/iPhone 8 64GB with Unlimited Calls/Text + 7GB Data $59/Month @ Optus (24 Month Lease)

170

Just a quick post.
Found this while passing through Pennant Hills Station.

Update: The proprietor at Harvey Norman Gordon was willing to do the 20% off porting in at Optus deal on this - making it around $47/month.

YMMV and he said that was 'today only price' (yesterday) but will probably still honour today. Worth a shot at your local.

Might be a viable option for those not wanting the iPhone X ugly notches that are supposed to be coming on the phones releasing in September.

Edit: Just realised this is a lease. I'll let the community decide here if it's good.

7GB (bonus 2GB online only offer)
Link

256GB is only $5 more per month ($64). 8 Plus 64GB is $10 more per month ($69)
Product Red phones also available at same price.

S9 also available. S9+ is $5 more per month.

Does anyone know if this stacks with any existing discounts such as student discount? If so this could be a great deal for some. If you are persistent with reps you might get some bonus data also. Worth a shot on both counts though :D

Do we need to show them the billboard to get this deal or is there a link?

    • Haha I'm not sure but just ask for the $59 Promo Flex. I'll link soon.

I have no idea if this is a good price, but +1 for posting a deal from a billboard!

    • Lmao yeah I don't normally notice billboards but this was planted right in front of me so figured it's worth a post šŸ˜‚

        Why not!

Not often a deal is posted who's "fine print" is physically printed in a 96pt font.

Not a deal for 7g and old phone, same $59 deal last year with 25g data etc.. and not a lease

    • The proprietor at Harvey Norman Gordon was willing to do the 20% off porting in at Optus deal on this - making it around $47/month which is a great price imo.

Was shopping around for a laptop but hadn't committed to a purchase yet when he said that, so should be able for anyone to get. Also, the salespersons can't do much so don't even bother.

  • The Samsung Galaxy S9 is also available

IMHO the Telstra/JB HiFi deals are better value on a better network.

It is a "Notch" not "Notches" on the iPhone X, and it really is not a big problem at all. I hardly even notice it anymore unless watching full screen YouTube or something and even then its off to the far left and disappears. Also lets people see you have the X which I like.

    • i love the notch, it make sense to me as a way to have a bigger screen yet smaller phone as the camera needs to be somewhere …..

think people get too caught up with looks rather than functionality , iā€™m all for functionality.

      • Except in Android 9!they reshuffled the notification pull down to accommodate potential notches, and now they've just made it bigger and with less features! (not sure why they killed some features however)

I donā€™t get why people are calling the notch ugly. If there wasnā€™t a notch, it would look far worse than a random microphone slot and front camera hole randomly placed on the screen.

    • some people walk around with a phone in the hand all the time , waving it around and i guess it becomes looks, my phone has a flip case so canā€™t see the notch when not used and i usually carry it in my pocket and my hand.

the notch was a way for designers to fit more active screen information on a set physical footprint and accomodate camera speaker and microphones ….

itā€™s why notched phones have larger than 1080p screens, remove pixels from, left and right of notch and it would just be 1080p with many phones

I prefer Samsung's approach of having thin symmetrical bezels on each side, rather than a notch (yes it's ugly, an eye sore, and unnecessary).

  • Notch is fine.

    • Yeah. Phone is fine.

  • Err, what does a lease mean? You have to give the phone back?

    • Yes that is correct.

    lease - yuck!

    • I'd say it's OK for a lot of people. Too few people keep a phone longer than 2 years.

The issue I see here is 7gb isn't a lot today, and I expect by the end of this contract it'll be fairly inadequate.

  • This same deal was previously 20gig and you got to keep the phone at the end. Poor value vs the offers Optus has just before Xmas.

Thereā€™s a pretty good sweet spot for buying an iPhone X 64GB on a $125 plan with 105GB per month discounted by $20 per month for 24 months,

so $105 including handset repayments for 105GB per month.
