NAB Platinum VISA Debit Card - $10 Monthly Fee

113

I used to have this card before I got into Credit Card game, back in 2008-09.
$10 monthly fee, but comes with
- All the benefits of a Platinum logo including insurances etc.
- 1% cash back on pay wave, up to $10 per month
- No foreign transaction fees

Not sure if there is any fee waiver provision like if you have wealth pa Kate or deposit a certain amount every month, used to be $4,000 when they previously issued this card.

Monthly fee being charged after death, kills this deal.

    • +12

realising you're paying for a debit card, killed the customer first.

      • +1

do you continue to get rebates after death? :P

        • +1

          Fees for life and death!

    • +1

      Deadbit card?

  • -1

Need to spend atleast $1000 monthly to make this worthwhile…

    • +1

Well probably more because it’s 1% rebate on payWave only.

    • +1

I think you missed the point. Some would value the card benefits as worth $10 a month.

  • Citibank trasaction account also has no foreign fees

    • Would this be the better deal since they dont charge $10?

Never heard of these cards before, would they need any credit check since NAB one costs? dumb question I think since its a debit card

      • No credit checks, because they aren't giving you any credit.

      • Credit check for credit cards.
        Debit check for debit cards?

    • Emergency medical doesnt seem to be the same level of insurance as this NAB one? Unless im wrong?

  • I don't see the benefit of this account.

Usually, any account that has a transaction fee is offlimits to me.

However, NAB (following tradition it must be) does waive my account fees and credit cards fees because I have been with them for more than 15 years.

  • What's the Normal interest rate on this bargain credit card?

    • +2

      It’s not a credit card.

  • If NAB supported Apple Pay I’d be interested. PayTag is not an adequate replacement.

    • +1

Stuff apple pay, they are the only one of the mobile payment processors who want a cut of the transaction. That's why the banks are so adverse to them, who wants ANOTHER middle man in all your transactions.

      • Me, it’s convenient not needing to carry cards around, and I’m not changing to Android anytime soon.

        • No drivers licence?

        • @Jikx:

          *less cards around.

        • I find it quite inconvenient. I used it a couple of times for fun, but when I actually needed it it was broken. It keeps saying they've put it on hold for security reasons but they can't tell me what it is or how to fix it. Luckily I have my own backup options when I leave my wallet at home or work. I wouldn't rely on it.

        • @Miss B:

I’ve been using it 18 months and never had it fail.

I got this card when I went to the States, very useful with the no fee to use when paying for stuff overseas.
However when I pulled out money from a Citibank ATM, I was given a shitty rate conversion plus charged a $5 ATM Withdrawl fee and a Foreign Currency Transaction fee of $41.

This is not a deal, this is the normal price for a NAB Platinum Debit Card.

NAB removed their Gold Debit Card (free with a monthly deposit of $5000) and introduced this Platinum Debit Card in its stead. Besides the different fee structure and the lack of 1% cashback as a way to get back the $10 monthly fee, the old Gold Debit Card had the same benefits as the new Platinum Debit Card. Gold Cardholders were forced to take up the Platinum Card, or move down to a normal no fee Debit Card and lose the extra card benefits.

There are so many free for 1 year credit cards from all the banks that you can just rotate and never have to pay fees. I don't understand how you think this is a deal.

    • Some people don’t want credit cards but would like the same kind of benefits.

      • Once I get reward points, and lounge access then you are starting to talk to me.

<< No foreign transaction fees >> they don't say the applied Fx rate is atrocious.

I have the card and never pay on a foreign currency.

    • Wouldn’t it be the Visa exchange rate that most people say it’s really good?

  • +1

Also the gold card used to be free

    • No it wasn’t.

      • In 8 years, I never paid a fee. Although, it required $5000 deposit each month.

NAB now charges $10 for new card whatever your income. I call that going backward.

        • If you PayWave $1000 a month it’s still free.

  • Wow we back to the 90s?

  • +1

$10 fee is pretty shitty, but if you travel overseas often and want to have Free travel insurance. It does worth it. Buy travel insurance going to cost you $120+ for sure.

  • Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account has similar if you earn I think $4,000/mo. On another post an employee said you have to meet income requirement at least once every three months to not lose card. Basically just move money out and in once every three months, lol.
