Sony STR-DN1080 7.2 Channel AV Receiver (4K & Atmos Ready) $979.30 @ JB Hi-Fi

140

Hi all,

I have been waiting for a deal on this amplifier, it's a good $400+ off RRP as well. Great reviews on it too, one of the best available for that price. I've been waiting for a deal so I can move to a 4K Atmos receiver and this is it. Enjoy!

    • Thanks mate. the Pioneer looks good.

      • I think very difficult if you can still find stock.

        • Yeap. I picked up a display model from Werribee, VIC.. Apparently only display models left and I think it was withdrawn from sale a while ago.

Still.. $385 for a 7.2 Almos amp is very, very decent.

        • Cheers. Will take a shot later today.

        • @ricodbn: 2 at Indooroopilly if that helps anyone.

    • Far out. Just paid $585 for the Pioneer from VideoPro and I thought that was a good deal!

      • Doesn't matter you can find stock anywhere anyway.

    • Thanks for the heads up on the Pioneer. I picked up the display model from Springvale VIC. For those interested Chadstone have one but have lost the remote. Brighton apparently also have one.

      • I saw they have Sony for STR-DN1060 display model as is for $300 at Belrose NSW but they strack up with other stuffs like rubbish.

      • Yeah.. mine has no remote, microphone or books. Just the bare amp.. annoying but hey.. $380!

      • I bought the Brighton one yesterday. The top grill has small dint in it but it came with all accessories at least.

  • what spkrs are you guys using with the 1080? Just moved to a new place, bigger room, looking for some recommendations. Eastwood hifi often seem to have some good spkr bundles for good price?

  • 4K < $1000 = the sweet spot

Until now you pretty much had to import Denon for that.

  • Decent price, but historically jb have had the 10xx receiver lines available for $8xx from time to time. So, unless you need now it may be worth waiting.

    • I need now. And also, the last time this was on sale (June) it was this same price or at least in the $900s. Considering yesterday I was willing to pay $1193, pretty happy!

      • Ok, don’t forget to get your 5% off ewish cards from cash rewards to then buy your jb gift cards (or the discounted racq or whatever they are) :)

        • Dammit, too late lol

Great amp ! Got mine from Amazon UK for $700 but thanks to Turnbull and the libs that is no more so this look like a good price of local stock.

For those with a Family and friends login (https://www.jbcommercial.com.au/familyandfriends/) (from your works benefits program etc.) They are $962.05 and you can still use discounted gift cards :)

Amazing amp. Bought one 6 months ago when bj had it at this price. Can't fault it.

  • bought in dec around when someone posted a similar deal and JB had a 5% off coupon in addition to being able to use gift cards. works a treat, my only complaint is that the LG Tv doesnt play nice with HDMI CEC, vol +- works but nothing else.

  • This is a decent price for what is rated as one of the best receivers for the price. Alternate options are:

Onkyo TX-NR676E - The Sony STR-DN1080 is constantly compared to this unit. It's very similar with the only real difference being that the Sony provides a bit more power and is more user friendly. Due to price drops the TX-NR676E is much cheaper than the Sony but good luck finding it as they're sold out at most JB's

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/onkyo/onkyo-tx-nr676e-7-2-channel-…

Onkyo TX-NR686 - The successor to the TX-NR676E. Very similar to the NR676 but also THX certified. It's also priced the same as the Sony

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/onkyo/onkyo-tx-nr686-7-2-channel-n…

  • Also should note that it's currently the same price on the Sony website

  • How is the Sony STR DN860 except no atmos?

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/sony/sony-strdn860-7-2-channel-wi-…

Strange STRDN1080 no DTS-HD master audio, Dolby true HD, only DTS atmos and DTS-X.

What will happen with DTS-HD blu-ray?

    • that's just a bad review site, it has all of those.
