Car battery question...

My car requires the [battery](https://www.centurybatteries.com.au/resources/battery-finder… mf/info)

With the following dimensions…

Normal Overall Dimensions (mm)

Length:242
Width:175
Height:190

Costco said the closest one they have is with the dimensions…

Length:230
Width:170
Height:180

Do you guys think if the Costco battery will fit in my car?

The price difference between the two is nearly $100.

Update
Got the Exide battery from Costco for around $80. Happy camper now. Thanks all for the suggestions

Yes as the second dimensions are shorter than the first dimensions.

    • Thanks John Kimble.

Does it have sufficient capacity to start your car? The size is ok, but being smaller (and cheaper) will likely have less capacity.

    • Both are 500 CCA. One's century and the Costco one is exide.

      • CCA may be the same, but actual capacity smaller. This may affect the longlivery of battery.

How may one fit something smaller in something bigger?

    • use a T.A.R.D.I.S.

      .

    • Dr How's ReTardis?

    • That's what she said.

  • Without knowing what particular car you have, I would personally go on Exide website and find the correct model battery for your car. Ones you get the battery model number, give Cosco a ring back and see what the best price you can get for that model battery. There is a reason why the battery manufacturers suggest using a certain type of battery for certain cars.

    • Car is a Nissan DUALIS petrol 2009. Couldn't find anything on the exide website for my car. Called Costco moorabbin and they said they didn't have battery for my my car. Anyway, I called Costco docklands just out of desperation and they said there is a battery that will be suitable. Got the dimensions of the battery as per my post.

Dimensions appear ok. CCA appear ok. Is the battery RH or LH ?

        • DIN53LH MF is the current battery in the car.

It is not unusual for parts catalogues, especially battery ones, to be 10 or more years out of date.
I recently found this when I had to buy a new battery for my 2012 yr car.
You just have to know 3 things… dimension, cca and terminal orientation. Get those 3 right and you should be set to go.

        • Absolutely.

After doing some research, it turns out that the battery is identical to one that is used in a VE Commodore.

      • have a look for Nissan Qashqai there, that my help (that how it was called in Europe and other countries)

  • If your car needs a DIN53, your new battery needs to be DIN53 type..

  • Just go to the Costco service centre and they will be able to check it out for you. Youll need a membership though. So that needs to be factored into your saving. Just get membership and get the fuel.

exide has different level of battery, I always get the extreme that has 42 month warranty. see what reference is costo giving you.

    according to https://www.beaurepaires.com.au/batteries/exide-xdin55hmf-ba…

    this should fit your car….$189

    • Like most things you get what you pay for. Premium batteries generally cost more but can be worth it.
Looks like a good choice in Exide.
Racv do also provide batteries but I have heard there non premium batteries are not so great.

make sure the terminals on the replacement battery are in the same position to original some batteries have terminals at rear of battery when your car needs then at front also check negative and positive are not wrong way round nearly all batteries are same size for range of car but make them in both left negative and right negative position etc

  • tried RACV battery service? Battery starts at $265 but $250 if you are a member. All prices include battery delivery, installation and recycling of your old battery

    https://www.racv.com.au/on-the-road/roadside-assistance/mobi…

Hint. Make sure you know the pin to reinitialise your car stereo by the way!

    • You wouldn’t need radio pin with RACV doing it. They would hook up your car to their truck before fully disconnecting your battery.

      • Yes they do but one time I still needed the pin afterwards

  • Find a R J Batteries store. I found them great. Bought lots of batteries from them. Good prices.

Costco Exide batteries are 25% off starting today if that helps your decision :) https://costcoau.blob.core.windows.net/cmsstorage/media/cost…

    • Thanks. I will be going there after work and see how it goes.

Do not buy Century Batteries, they're junk! I'd even buy a $99 no name brand (example using 4x4 battery)from Autofarm before any Century Batteries product! Personal choice for a car would be Supercharge, but otherwise Exide, anything except Century!
