2 for $40 4K Blu Rays @Amazon AU
Think this isn't as good as the BOGOF offer from back in May -
However, there a few good movies to pick up.
Enjoy.

Some newly released Marvel movies on there such as Black Panther, Thor Ragnorok, Guardians 2, Avengers 1 and Avengers 2 Age Of Ultron (looks like they both just released in 4K)

    • sucks that IMAX versions arent on the 4K but I picked up both avengers cause no IMAX. Black Panther, Thor Ragnarok and Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 have expanded image on the 3D versions for anyone reading this :)

      • Getting an IMAX version wouldn't be worthwhile if it wasn't filmed for the IMAX. Most of those Marvel movies only have certain scenes filmed for IMAX like 15 minutes. Might as well keep it to 4k Blu-Rays.

        • Disagree, the Nolan movies only have some IMAX scenes but holy crap do they look good.
It's worth having it switch rather than missing out entirely.

Plus Infinity War was filmed in IMAX completely, so it sucks we missed out on that.

        • @theguyrules: To get it to fit the IMAX screen/ratio they have to cut parts of a movie off, except those 15 minutes they filmed for the IMAX scenes. If rather keep what they filmed.

        • @FabMan:
Only if they choose to fill the screen the whole time.
Read what I said, I would rather it switch ratios, not try to keep the IMAX ratio the whole time, by cutting off some of the video.
Otherwise they waste filming anything in IMAX.

Watch any recent Nolan movie for an example of what I mean.

        • @theguyrules: What do you think IMAX is? It's a different ratio. They've already filmed it, they didn't film it multiple times. The CGI isn't rendered multiple times.

The IMAX scenes (15 minutes @ 1.43:1) they filmed are cropped at the top and to match the typical cinema scenes (2.39:1) when playing 4K. When playing on IMAX the rest of the movie is cropped to fit the IMAX ratio.

I'd rather keep more of the filmed content, as the movies don't change aspect ratios while watching it. That would look awful, and its why movies don't do it.

        • @FabMan:

I'd rather keep more of the filmed content, as the movies don't change aspect ratios while watching it.

Yeah, some do mate. And it looks fine, when done properly. There's no rule saying that a movie can't switch aspect ratios.

For the third and final time,

Watch any recent Nolan movie for an example of what I mean.

Nolan movies do exactly this, and they look incredible. Especially in NATIVE 4k

        • @theguyrules: I guess it's personal preference but I didn't enjoy the aspect ratio changes during his movies, I find it briefly took me out of the moment as I noticed it. I think many people commented on that.

He does love to be different, as he said it was intentional that the music in Interstellar drown out the dialogue, which was a a horrible choice as I kept thinking the editing was (profanity) up. No a choice he made to be different.

Competing with JbHiFi, next expecting JbHIFI additional 20% discount on movies 😊

    • We can only hope :)

        i think its coming soon…hoping b4 father's day

  • The Cloverfield Paradox has the description and picture of the original Cloverfield, which I'm assuming is what the movie is..

    • Yep, definitely wouldn't be the Cloverfield Paradox. I think even Netflix was embarrassed about that one when they dropped it with absolutely no fanfair.

      • +1

It was entertaining, not good but I didn't hate it.

Will be hiding out for these to drop to $10 before I jump on 4K !! $20 is too much.

granted - the Chris Nolan ones were in a nice cheaper package a few weeks ago.

  • Do 4k disc working in a normal Blu-ray player? Eg ps4 (non pro).

    • +1

Nope - you need a 4k Blu Ray player.

      • Cool thx.

        • +1

they come with regular blu ray too though so you can be futureproofed and still be able to watch it, only exceptions I can think of is Westworld Season 1 and GOT season 1 however westworld does have a set with both 4k and blu ray at higher price

        • Xbox One S (or X) will play 4k blu-rays (on sale regularly)

@BenTheBargainer2013: Predator trilogy also came in 4K only.

You can download these movies from YTS, the app is in Google play store, then buy a program called iskysoft media converter, then you can convert them to 4kUHD and play the file on an external hard drive, I did this with an Avatar 2gig bluray file and the results were incredible. Set to 4k high quality it will automatically change the bitrate to 20,000 and fps to 30fs, Avatar isn't out in 4k yet.

    • +1

You can't "convert" 1080 to 4K, any more than you can convert a 1 megapixel photo to a 20 megapixel photo. Seriously

      • You can, and your 4K TV does this (interpolation) automatically 50/60 times per second whenever you watch non-4K material.

        • +2

Ok, let me be clearer for the pedantic amongst us:
You cannot magically create image detail like they do in the forensic lab on TV (CSI, NCIS, etc.).
Upscaling an image does not give the same quality as a native 4K image. It cannot be considered a valid replacement for a 4K bluray.

        • Upscaling exists as it is a necessity when you don't have native 4K content. It just lets you watch non 4K material on a 4K display, else you would not see your entire screen used for the image. If the bit rate is somehow upgraded by conversion software it is simply applying some math. As bmerigan pointed out it will never equal 4K native image quality.

        • @sentinel: Upscaling is nowhere near as good as native 4k no matter how much you want it to be.

        • @bmerigan:

Ok, let me be clearer for the pedantic amongst us:

I responded to what you wrote, which was clearly wrong - interpolation can convert any resolution to a higher resolution - nothing about quality. Kudos for rectifying.
However, scaling using best interpolation algorithms produce higher perceived quality at higher resolution than original. In other words, at same screen size and at same (pixel-resolvable) viewing distance, 1080p picture interpolated to 4K (even with associated artefacts) will be perceived to look better on 4K screen than the original on a HD screen (which will look blocky due to larger pixel size).

        • @AlexF: An easier way to say that is that 1080p upscaled looks better than 1080p not upscaled. Depends on the screen and the upscaling quality though.

        • @bmerigan: NCIS IS A LIE?

xXx - The Return of Xander Cage 4k for $10.66.
Or $20 if you buy it with another title.

Imagine thinking you can upscale a 2gb 1080p file to 4K

Tempus, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

    • +1

Skip the iskysoft media converter step and just playback the file you downloaded directly.

  • Thanks OP, ordered Thor Ragnarok and Black Panther, both which I've been holding out on a price drop on.
