WD My Book Essential External HDD 1TB USB 2.0 - $67.00

450

Went to Officeworks today and found that the WD My Book Essential 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard drive was on clearance for $67.00

Cheapest on staticice.com.au is about $95+

model no. WDAF1000BK

I don't care for USB 3.0 for backup. I schedule my backups to kick in overnight. So speed isn't an issue!!
EDIT
As someone else has mentioned, 1.5TB for $99

EDIT 2
Uploaded receipt - note: used coles staff discount to get price on receipt. Ticket price still $67.00

Not half bad, geez. Need some extra storage for game backups and was going to buy a 2TB internal for $105 but this is really tempting.

Please put the price in the title.

    • There we go!

  • this is a 3.5" drive? It needs power adapter and NOT usb powered

    • This model required a power adapter.

      • -3

shouldn't it say in title 3.0 instead? coz i thought that was the main distinguisher between having a AC adapter or not?

        • +3

The distinguishing factor is the physical size of the hard drive. 3.5" hard drives require an external power supply, 2.5" drives can be BUS powered.

USB 3.0 is the latest revision of the Universal Serial Bus standard and offers higher transfer speed(up to 4.8Gbps), Increased maximum bus power and device current draw, New power management features, and full-duplex data transfers and support for new transfer types.

        • ah understood, thanks for that :)

  • Don't see this online. Might be instore only?

    If so, mileage obviously varies?

Get rid of scan, black out and re-scan without your staff discount ID. People can use it online and get you in deep shit with work.

I did it and got my ass kicked when I was working at Safeway, so I learnt the hard way. The hard lessons are the ones you never forget. :P

  • BTW, King Work online has a Seagate 1TB for $69
    http://www.kingwork.com.au/catalog/products.php?196&cPath=24…

    • Not bad. But how much extra is post?

    • -2

thats pretty good as well too!
this should be a deal itself shouldn't it be?
i'd buy it coz its under $100 for 1TB and its usb 2.0 so don't require power adaptor

when i check out, it appears they charge a ridiculous price of $19 so total price is $88

      • Since when does 2.0 mean it doesn't require a power adaptor? Is that not a factor unto itself?

        • For the record, one of my 1.5tb USB2.0 drives has a power adaptor.

        • +1

oh ok, thanks for the clarification :)

      • +3

Notebook hard drives (2.5") don't require a power adapter. Desktop (3.5") drives do - just to help you out prankster :)

  • Not being picky but Officeworks is one word.

    • Don't know what you are on about :P

      • hehehehe

  • Warners Bay!

P3TOR did you see how many they had left? As I might go in there sometime tomorrow if they have any…

    • Purchased 2 a couple of hours before close today with 1 or 2 left. Good luck !! kotara is always quiet!

  • Last time I tried to price match something from a NSW Officeworks store, in a VIC Officeworks store, they wouldn't let me. I suspect coz it was such a huge discount last time.

    • I would be suprised if other states didn't have a discount of some sort. all of the 3.0 drives of the my book series were taking over the shelves!

  • for our old computer can us get higher speed if use 3.0 drive?

    • +3

If I understood you correctly, you will only get USB 3.0 speeds if both the usb device and usb inputs in your computer support usb 3.0. Your "old" computer probably doesn't have USB 3.0 so getting a USB 3.0 drive would be pointless. (i.e. no speed transfer increase over a USB 2.0 device)

      • +3

Or you can grab a USB 3.0 PCIE card for $25 or so.

        • thanks for u guys advise, so i dont think we need need grab a 3.0 drive until it popular or most our system already intergrate with 3.0 interface.

Just got price matched in DSE Queen Street Mall (Brisbane). They beat it by 10% of the difference so $64.20. Thanks for the receipt p3t0r!

    • Did you print the receipt for price match at DSE? Do they accept?

      • Sorry for the late reply cminez; the answers are yes and yes.

Those guys are usually terrific price-matchers and they had quite a few still in stock. Didn't count but from memory between 6-10 on the shelf after lunch yesterday.

  • Marty, do you have the receipt from DSE Queen St Mall. I went there yesterday but they said they couldn't match with p3t0r's receipt!!!!
