  • Will it work with all bands of optus?

Its a good phone for what it is, almost stock Marshmallow. Usable SOC with quad core a53. 1gb ram ain't great but passable. Screen is probably a let down though.

If getting the U3, make sure its the 4g version with a53, the newer 3g version is back to the a7 cores.

    • It’s says U3 4G

  • This might sound silly but would this be a cheap way to get a phone purely to use as a wifi hot spot?

I'm thinking of ditching my TPG broadband in favour of getting vodafone mobile data since they have the piece of mind data after you reach your cap.

I've already got a phone still in contract with Optus so the second mobile would be used purely as a modem.

    • I am wondering the same thing!!

Would need to somehow be able to issue DHCP for the internal network so you can network between devices, i.e. wifi printer, etc.

      • Not sure about this techie stuff. Can u have several devices tethered to the one mobile hotspot?

        • +1

I have at least 3-4 at any given time.

      • Or tether via USB to a PC with decent Wifi / antenna.

    • It would be network locked though… I expect.

    • I just bought a U3 at rouse hill target just to do Wi-Fi hot-spot. I put my kogan sim in it and it worked since kogan uses Vodafone network. With all these kogan sim deals going on..

They don’t tend to have much, apart from OzBargain disappointment.

  • The really important question no one has asked yet, can you play PokemonGo on it? :P

  • How to unlock?

    • With a key.

  • Anyone in WA thinking of buying the U5, Bull Creek is the only store in Perth with stock. They had 2, called and reserved one for myself so there may be the last one in Perth left with them.

Price confirmed $19, they will hold the phone up to a week for you

For anyone lucky to be living in, or willing to travel to, Broome - they got some stock in that store too.

U3 is easily available I believe

    • Just got one from Carousel, Cannington, WA. Last one I think.

  • got last one from Garden city Mt Gravatt Brisbane
Carindale has U3 but not for$19

  • Got one from Narellan today.

    • U5 or U3? Any more left?

      • U5. Only u3 left.

        • Thanks for the intel.

        • I purchased the last U3. No more U5 or U3 left. Target Narellan did not put up the apology notice and had the phones tagged at full price. This was probably the reason why that store had stock while all surrounding Targets had none.

I tried to + the deal but my stupid phone registered a -. I have revoked the - but now I cannot vote +. Sorry OP.

  • Wonthaggi Target still have one U3, I got the other for $19. No U5 available at this location

    I unlocked using this listing.
Threw error but it unlocked anyway, as my Optus SIM works and it did not ask me to retry.

Got 3 to satisfy the pensioners. Two had been opened, one SIM card had been used. FFS Target….

  • heard a few gripes about the charging speed so I just did a quick test with a 5V 1.8A charger it went from 13% to 47% in about 1.2h so seems fine if you use a decent charger. zero heat.

  • Wollies have both mobiles if you wish to view before buying
What I saw at Wollies - the U5 is bigger, more expensive, newer model
    But each to there own.
