  • Who supplies the fuel? BP, Shell?

    • +5

      Costco sources from Mobil

Good price for Diesel, but you can get slightly better prices for 91 and 98 via 7-Eleven Fuel Lock (without paying for a membership).

OzBargainers never pay for memberships. Go 7/11

  • This is a value addition to current costco membership.

Agreed. The main point being that Costco prices are consistently low and track the prevailing gate price.

E.g. my local Costco is currently $1.27.7 for e10, the current normal price for others is $157.7. The current gate price before rebates etc is actually $132.5 so I would expect the Costco price to ease up slightly soon.

Certainly in my area, you can use the current Costco price as a reference point for other outlets and basically when they get close or occasionally beat it you know you're at the low point of any price cycle.

      • Okay this makes sense. In the last few days most servos in my area dropped about 20c so I was expecting Costco to be dirt cheap but this wasn't the case, only a few cents lower.

We have Costco membership but rarely fill up there, the queues are too long
Also, the surrounding petrol stations are matching it when prices falling from the peak, esp Woolworths Petrol, with 4c voucher and GC 5%, it's always cheaper there than Costco, plus some points.

    • Woolworths Petrol Epping 136.7 for Diesel is amazing when you add the 4c off voucher and 10c off Rewards promo.

  • Costco opens Wednesday. Can't wait to stock up on toilet paper.

Burns quicker? Are you getting less mileage? If so by how much?

Can't wait to see the empirical evidence/testing methods involved…

      • Yep, less milleage…atleast 50km's less. Try it out for yourself.

        • +1

Now how can that be? Apart from the detergent additives, the 91/95 octane fuel is the same everyhwere. The octane rating is what determines how far you get.

I am yet to see amy scientific evidence that the brand of fuel in Australia gives you any better mileage (or is better for your car) then another. Just lots of rumours and marketing. Some servos might be worse then others with regards to keeping their fuel handling and storage, but that doesn't run across brands. Especially since it now all comes over from Singapore.

        • @supabrudda: "Especially since it now all comes over from Singapore." Australia still produces around 65% of the petrol used for transport in Australia and around 50% of all fuel used in transport.Singapore only supplies 26% of Australias imported fuel while South Korea and Japan supply most of the remainder.

        • Sorry. Not in my experience and I can prove it vs Shell.

VPower however, does make a slight difference vs Mobil 98 I noticed but just slight.

Welcome to Ozbargain snowr05 did you join to make that statement? LOL

I just thought I'd give my two cents…up to you if you wanna use the fuel or not.

    • +4

I think testing over 6 cars might be confusing you. I've tested in my single car across dozens of different petrol stations, and your statement is unfounded.

Only try out the Costco fuel over a couple of weeks and see the results for yourself.

  • Wish Costco Canberra would do the same price. U91 is $138.7 at the moment.

    • They are pretty good on price match and refund. Talk to the computer there.

    • You're forgetting the Canberra tax

  • Why is this even listed? No offence OP, but lets just always list the cheapest fuel, whenever it changes, right?

    • Costco fuel price is always cheaper. Get a 60 membership and get another free one for partner and I'm sure you would save the $30 each quickly to more than make up just for getting the membership to use for getting fuel. I worked it out that even though we aren't around the corner from Costco it's still worth it if your filling up to full tank from empty. If you go early there are fewer people. The trap also is buying fuel and then shopping at Costco.

By the way its better for the premium price variations. 711 are consistently say 10-15c more for premium and even the grocery stores for premium there is still a saving going through Costco as the Grocery storee mark up their fuel prices to cover their discount vouchers.

I just filled up for 127.9 @ Caltex Kingsway South Melbourne. 91ULP 133.9 - 6c discount for paying with their new fuel pay app.

  • I just paid $1.487 for 98 Ron at Moorabbin Costco
