How much is it normally ?

  • So locked

    • Yes, It's locked to the Optus network.

  • Have Optus pulled their stunt of having a phone made that only uses their frequency bands with this one?

  • +1

    Shit processor. Instant ejection.

    • +1

Yeah, they should have called it The Digestive System.

    • MediaTek is okay. I hate the microUSB more

      • +1

i have mediatek before, phone works ok.

What were you expecting for $200?

  • There is some discussion on unlocking these over on Whirlpool.

Or, unlock services are floating around on ebay for < $20.

  • +5

GSM850 and WCDMA-CLR-850 is disabled via firmware by default.
Think twice if you want to use on Telstra.

    • There is some talk on the Whirlpool thread I linked to above about re-enabling 850.

      • +2

Yes. But you will have to do so each time you reboot your phone.

    • +3

Typical Floptus anticompetitive behaviour. ACCC should take them to the cleaners

WCDMA-CLR-850 is disabled via firmware by default.

      That is disgusting!
One thing on a $49 phone (Optus has done this before), but unacceptable at $199. I was genuinely considering buying this until I saw it was crippled.

It means you can use this phone on Telstra or resellers (after paying unlock fee), and get data, but voice calls will fail.
Should be illegal. I wonder if the ACCC will ever do anything about such blatant circumvention of competition laws.

I unlocked mine using the software method. The phone is crapola compared to the recent Sharp aquos s2 for an extra 20 bucks

    • Which software did you use?

      • mediatek engineering something on google play store. It mentioned by @apat

  • "Octa-core (1x2.5GHz, 3x2.5GHz, 4x1.9GHz)"
    Are you sure it's not 4x1.9GHz, 2x2.5GHz, 2x2.5GHz?

  • Do you think Officeworks will price beat?

    • +1

Yes, was the answer. In store. $189.

You're better off getting a Nokia 3.1 with clean/Upto date Android for $50 bucks more https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/Outright-Mobile-Handsets/no…

  • Would this phone work with a yomojo sim? (they use the Optus network)

    • +2

In my experience with Optus phones, you can use all network resellers using the Optus network.

I think it's an awesome phone. The only downsides are the downfacing loudspeaker (same as most other phones) and the hit or miss facial recognition (the fact that you get FR on a phone this cheap is pretty amazing anyway.)

I love the huge screen on a small chassis. It's only slow when WiFi is slow - not its fault. Watching streaming videos is not a problem.

I wonder how many people who are criticising this phone have actually used it for a reasonable amount of time.

It makes a mockery of the latest phones that cost over a thousand dollars more.

  • I ended up not getting one as there seem to be to many negatives and my MIL needs a hassle free phone.

    • What negatives?

  • I can confirm that the offer @ $199 at Woolworths is still going, even though the sale date has passed. My local at Merrylands scanned it and it shows up as $199 at the register.
