Anybody want to go dutch on this deal?

    • +27

That's funny because Dutch people live in Amsterdam where this deal has flights to.

      • -1

I hear they have rudders there…..dutch ones

  • Just as long as you don't go for the ovens…

    • +1

When I lived there I always thought it would be funny to open a restaurant called the Dutch Oven - The Dutch I knew were not familiar with the term.

      • +1

I've always wanted to open a seafood restaurant called 'Bass to mouth'

    • @bkhm. Perhaps stop using the Internets and save the world 1 watt at a time.

      • I have solar panels. Besides, internet is now considered a human right…I don't think going on holidays is…

I mean well, I'm not telling people not to go, just merely posting an article that apparently is unrelated but I think it is. It's like if someone posted on a phone post an article where the phone battery explodes, if this is irrelevant then that would be too.

        • So… if my parents live there, and i want to use this to go see them… am i allowed?
Or would you prefer if i climbed on your back and you swam there?

        • @Martijn:

I don't understand why people get so defensive over this and I always wonder why. I literally just posted an article I didn't even write and yet it triggers something in a lot of people where their generally response is 'oh well you should stop using X' which is not productive at all. The person who wrote this and I are just trying to raise a bit of awareness but yet we're almost immediately attacked by nonsense comments.

It's like if I posted an article saying PTV helps reduce traffic and CO2 then suddenly there are comments like 'stop using the internet', 'oh so if I have a dying family member 50km's away and ptv takes longer I can't drive to see them?' no, it's ridiculous, it just means consider other alternatives if possible because every little bit helps.

          I mean look at this,

          https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2010/apr/19/eyjafjal…

Literally the TONNES of CO2 by the volcano actually resulted in less CO2 into the atmosphere since just the flights that were cancelled alone would've produced more.

So no, we're not telling you what to do, we're all on the same team here but it seems to me that most people either turn a blind eye because otherwise it would ruin their fun or they get super defensive and honestly, I just DON'T understand.

    • Thank for the link bkhm, it is unfortunate reality that emissions are out of control and it will affect the life on Earth unless we do something about it within next few years. Not many people realise that next few years are critical to take action against emissions and pollution because if we don't the climate change will be irreparable. Our chances judging by the balance of + and - votes on the article post are not very encouraging.

      TL;DR of the article:

Atmosfair is a German public interest group that recommends limiting your air travel to about 3,100 miles per year. If you must exceed that limit, Atmosfair invites you to compensate by sending conscience money on a prorated basis to support climate stabilization efforts around the world.

Using the calculator via link above for a flight similar to one in this deal:
      - Flight distance: 33,808 km
      - Maximum flight altitude: 12,500 m
      - CO₂ emissions: 3,317 kg
      - Contrails, ozone formation and other effects: 6,424 kg

      Suggested compensation amount: € 225

Where the money will go? Have a look on the list of projects Atmosfair is supporting, you can pick one or have the money going to all.

      • +1

Atmosfair seems like a really good initiative. You're right, climate change is a much bigger threat than what people are willing to believe. Even still, relating to my post, I wasn't telling anyone what to do at all and 'banning travel' was never my intention, in fact I didn't even comment so I could just give the article and the data for what it is but it seems people take it as if I'm threatening them which is a shame.

Your comment was really encouraging and I'm glad there's someone on the same page so I really thank you for that. I just didn't want to wait till it became 'on topic' i.e 'climate change is causing a lot of damage, what to do' haha

  • +1

@bkhm your post is " off topic "

I believe this is a great deal , if you don't mind the cooler temperatures in this expensive city

    • Low price first, everything else is second on this website lol

    • yeah I know, but people don't generally look at stuff like this and I bet when they did, they immediately closed it. I guess I don't want to wait until it becomes relavant

  • $856 is the lowest Brisbane fare for any of the period. Can you confirm OP?

    • FlightScout searches and caches dates that people look at. So while $756 was there, that particular date/price may be gone, but still available on other dates.

      (FlightScout isn't my site)

  • That's a good price, we go every 2 years to visit family and usually pay between 1350 - 2000 AUD for a ticket. That is with Emirates or Cathay Pacific though.

  • Weed is legal there.

    • And in other news, the pope is Catholic.

  • Just bought, hopefully China Southern is okay and true full service? Any horror stories? >_>

    • I've actually heard nothing but praise, their fleet apparantly is quite modern.

    • I've flown with them a few times and have found them to be fine. Tip, if you have more than an 8-hour stop-over in Guangzhou you can get a free night in a hotel. You can book the hotel on china southern's website or alternatively ask the staff at the transfer desk.

    • I showed this deal to a high end travel agent friend who sang their praises. Have fun! Don't forget to pass to the left.

    • I just flew with them a month ago. I thought it would be bad, but the service and my experience were great. They allow far more bagged luggage then the other airlines. I have been telling anyone traveling to go with them
