Southern Highland 12 Extra Large Organic Free Range Eggs 700g $8 @ Woolworths

70

This is not a bargain, but simply the best available deal (in NSW, at least) for those after free range organic eggs. It was first mentioned here by @Hellfire

Choice Mag's CluckAR app says their chooks enjoy 12sqm each (when free), which is not the most — Gunning Bum Nut chooks @ Harris Farm enjoy whopping 50sqm each for $7.50 a dozen, though not organic) — but are the best at this price point amongst organics.

Note: don't neg the deal simply bc you don't think either free range or organic are worth the additional cost. If that's your case, you are at a different point of the curve (i.e. this simply ain't for you).

        They're definitely not inorganic.

Sunny Queen 12 Extra Large Free Range Eggs 700g are on special at Woolworths for $5.70

    • Not organic and at 1,500 hens/ha? By comparison, $2.30 more for certified organic and 800/ha truly is a bargain.

I read as Highland 12 yo single malt for $8

    • same here

  • I try to buy free range eggs whenever I can (or cage free at the minimum) but $8 is just way too expensive.

    • It's not cheap, I agree. It boils down — pun intended — to whether you're paying simply for taste and filling, or for nutrition.

      • $8 eggs are not more 'nutritious', jesus.

  • What's an organic egg. I thought all eggs were organic

    • Organic = chemical free and more.

Simply put we are all made of what we eat. Same goes for what we eat i.e. the eggs we eat that the chook makes are made of what the chook eats.

So non organic eggs are made of the non organic manufactured "food" the chooks are fed which may contain pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, GMO ingredients and other chemicals.

People who believe clean food is important to their health are the market for organic food. Interesting stat;70% of antibiotics used in Australia are used in animal farming……

  • I do understand a free range egg but organic at $8.0 that sounds like a oxygen rich H20 water or Sodium rich Salt?

It pains me every time I pay more for these :/ but I support real free range eggs and there aren't many options at supermarkets.

    • To me it's a matter of nutritional content, not so much animal rights (though that's also a consideration).

Same here, this is the only brand I buy at the supermarket. Disappointing there aren't more options :(
