  Aren't regular economy LAX return flights usually under a grand?

  For a couple staying in an airbnb, average nightly price of $182 for LA, you could have 16 days extra holiday time for a slightly shittier flight.

  I really don't get why you'd pay for this

  Premium economy is overrated. You either lie flat or you don't.

    If you can get it using flyer points it's with it. Slightly extra leg room is better than nothing.
