Washing Machine Recommendations

Our current machine has died - fisher and paykel7.5kg top loader which we were happy with.

So looking at replacement options. Went into Good Guys and the guy there reckons that Front Loaders are the go - with the main downside being the long wash times.

He recommended some of the Samsung units - and said they are good machines and have good features.

After reading through some old threads in there, it seems many people don't like Samsung washing machines, so looking at other options.
I don't really have a budget yet, but the upper limit is probably around the $1k mark.

I see in the past that lots of people like the Bosch WAW28460AU - are these machines still a good buy?

Any other recommendations? Thoughts?

Thanks.

  • Have you given up on the F&P brand?

    • No not at all, just looking at all options.

Just got this German Bosch. Bloody brilliant mate.

Edit: Just realised that's the one your taking about. Yes, get it!

I prefer LG washers over Samsung. Never had an issue with our LG top loader, it's over 10 years old and still going strong. The Samsungs would be good during winter as they double as a heater/fire place.

  • I have this Electrolux EWF12753 7.5kg Front Load Washing Machine. It's $756 at JB Hi-fi: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/home-appliances/washing-machines/e…

It replaced a Samsung which was well over 10 years old.

  • We had a Samsung front loader, and it was great. We probably had it for 5-7 years, and it never missed a beat.
I wanted to replace our ancient dryer last year with an efficient heat pump/condenser dryer - and due to space constraints it needed to be stacked on top of the washing machine. As a result, we decided to upgrade the washing machine as well to get a "matching" pair. I had two Bosch units in my mind, and whilst shopping around, we get recommended AEG units from several salesman. My wife was sold on them mainly due to their long warranty - so we got them instead of the Bosch. Biggest mistake ever, not to mention a waste of $3k! The washing machine isn't too bad (apart from exceptionally long wash cycles) - but the dryer is a piece of junk. I wish we'd stuck with the Bosch.

TL;DR Samsung machines are pretty good, but avoid AEG like the plague.

  • I just purchased a samsung bubble wash front loader and I'm in love. I did originally want a F & P but they didnt have any in stock. So far my samsung has been awesome and I much prefer it over my whirlpool top loader which I had previously. Downside is the long wash cycle. The longest wash (baby clothes and bedding) takes around 3 hours. A standard wash is 1 hour. Samsung isnt that bad!

  • Front Loaders are the go - with the main downside being the long wash times.

The new top loaders are no better in wash times now. To meet the water saving guidelines, they pushed the wash cycles WAY out.

So check the manual and compare the times, you might be surprised.

  • main downside being the long wash time

Not really, my Bosch will do a load in 40m and has a quick wash at 15m.

Really, the main drawback with front is that they don't hold much, so get the next size up.

Also don't wash as well when fully loaded as they use gravity and the clothes need to be able to move.

  • Can anyone recommend a good top load?

    Thanks heaps.

What's wrong with your washing machine?

My F&P started banging and giving my uneven load errors… it was worn suspension rods, which was very easy DIY replacement for less than $200.

    • That’s true, but you’re still dropping 20% of the new price on amaybe ten year old machine. I spend a few hundred on diy repairs to my 9 yr old Maytag front loader (split elbow hose that was unique to that model as well as new motor brushes and a new drum seal) only for the main board to promptly die a year or so later. A main board was going to cost upwards of $700 so I just bit the bullet and bought the Bosch that the op has listed and have been happy.

      • Machine was about 5-6 years old, so it's in keeping with other reports of F&P suspension rod wear. It's been 2 years and still going strong… so money well spent IMO.

        • In your case the gamble paid off. My point was that it doesn’t always

  • Just purchased the Bosch WAW28460AU from Binglee/Ebay for $839.20 using their code in the ebay description.
Same price as a mid-range Samsung!
    Offer ends 24th Sept.

    Great reviews on this machine.
Looking forward to picking it up :)
