I bought 6 books from a Borders store last weekend when they had 40% off purchases of 4 or more. I was feeling kind of sorry for them… Then I checked on Amazon UK & found I could still have paid less by buying the same from them. No wonder Borders went broke when even at 40% off their prices are more expensive than Amazon!

40% off isn't the cheapest so 25% off hardly a bargain for overprice items.

have they put their prices up since they went into receivership ?

      • they couldn't go any higher could they?

I wouldn't go near Borders with a 10 ft pole now.. You just don't know if they're going to close up shop tomorrow and then being put on an unsecured creditors list…

Telling people to spend double their gift vouchers face value so that they can redeem it is certainly a way to p*ss people off rather than win loyalty back..

      Agreed….I'm 1 of them.

      • Are gift cards accepted online again?

    • Can they do that? Change the rule after you buy it. I thought that sort of thing is illegal. ?_?

      • Its legal and regrettable.

It was a new business from 17 February when they called the administrators in.

The new business didn't have to honour the liabilities of the old, but did/does have to consider customer relationships while it is trying to run as a viable ongoing concern and find a buyer.

There were supposedly $15 million of cards in circulation at 17 February in the whole Group.

VIPs were sent 30% off code VIP-30603 I'm not buying anything from them as I'm still p*ssed off about the gift card debarcle. I had heard dymocks will exchange your A&R/Borders VIP card for a precharged($10) Dymocks one

Oh hell no. First of all: Overpriced. Secondly: There is no guarantee you'll ever receive your product.

  • Don't piss your money down a hole, their likely going to be out of business & closed all together in a matter of days. High chance you'll never see your books or money back if you take up this offer.

Stores are officially starting to be shut down this week: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/03/01/3151898.htm

  • Agreed - Buying books from these guys (especially when they haven't paid their publishers for months) is just asking for trouble. You're probably screwing authors by buying from them (their publisher hasn't been paid for the book, so they won't be either), and you have no guarantee you'll ever see your book or your money again.

    • buying online would be the trouble
buy instores should be okay(for those people who are willing to shop there)
