CTEK MXS 7.0 12V 7A Battery Charger $140 @ Repco (VIP Club Members)

80

Received an email from Repco saying that the CTEK MXS 7.0 battery charger will be on special for $140 this weekend for Repco VIP Club members.

The MXS 5.0 appears to be quite popular on here so I thought some might also appreciate the discount on the slightly more powerful 7.0. Seems to be the cheapest price that I can find at the moment.

  • Anyone who pays Repco's standard price of $280.00 is an idiot.

At $140.00 it is very good buying.

  • As someone that needs to buy a Battery Charger, is this a good all purpose one?

Looking to buy a charger to charge a almost dead battery and also use on other cars, mostly small cars.
    Ranges for the 3 batteries
    12v
    CCA: 330 - 620
    RC: 60 - 120
    AH: 40 - 70

    • Hi Tonetoro, what do you mean by almost dead battery, are you referring to the battery condition causing low cranking speed when starting or something else?

Most smart chargers won't start charging unless the battery voltage is around 11 volts.

      • The battery was dead and the car wouldn't start a few weeks ago.
Used the good old jumper leads to start the car and get the car up and running and it hasn't had any trouble turning over since. I read recently that driving the car doesn't charge up the battery (well not a lot) and it should be replaced.
Was thinking that buying a battery charger would be more economical in the long run compared to buying a new battery.

FYI My Battery is prob close to being 8 to 10 years old. Which my partner googled and said most batteries only last 3-5 years.

    • this one will charge even a dead battery

      use the "recond" mode

    • Great charger. Just top up your battery water if the acid is low. Then use the CTEK charger in recond mode. It can probably squeeze out an additional year of battery life out of the almost dead battery unless the lead plates are broken.

      • oh, only an additional year. i thought the battery charger would be like almost giving it a full charge.
When would people use these types of chargers then? every year or so?

        • I remember my dad's car once had a short in one of the speakers. He ignored it until one morning when the car wouldn't start. The battery wasn't worn out but it had gone flat. Perhaps this charger would have been come in handy that day.

        • +1

Normally a dead lead acid battery that has been allowed to go flat won't hold charge anymore, eventhough you charge it. This CTEK charger will revive it and give it some more life. Under normal circumstances, you would have to replace it with a new battery.

  • pretty good price

  • damn bought a 6a @ $160 a couple of weeks ago…

  • goddamn it.. I bought the 5A for $105 a few weeks ago.

  • I bought the 5A Test & Charge model not long ago. Only downside is the mode button can be a bit flaky, but warranty is good.

  • +1

For the McGyver types, the charger below can be made dirt cheap if you have a spare laptop charger and you just want to keep a battery topped up in a car you don't drive much:
