Will be cheaper than this deal by $100

Not the latest model but I personally don't need Garmin Pay and music storage so am happy with this one. The new 5 Plus model also has shorter battery life too.

EDIT: Confirmed in comments that the sale has started early.

Great find. Thanks OP - wanted to get one but $499 was a bit more than I wanted to spend.

The Garmin Fenix 5 watches are likely to keep getting cheaper as the new Snapdragon 3100 chipset that Qualcomm just announced to replace the 2100 chip means other manufacturers will start catching up to the battery life: talking 15+hrs on GPS on other watch brands instead of 3 hours at the moment, compared to up to 24 hours claimed for this Fenix watch. Also the new 3100 chip has heaps of other improvements and Qualcomm have reportedly announced they will allow watchmakers to access the hardware directly instead of using Qualcomm's code, so expect new features and capabilities on the next generation of WearOS watches which should start appearing before Christmas. These Fenix watches will most likely be much cheaper after that happens as it's expected genuine competitors will emerge in the sports watch space that will have newer technology than the current Garmin technology, and they will run Android (WearOS) so lots of apps available that Garmin probably can't match. But if you need it now the deal that IceCreamBandit has posted is definitely pretty good. The Garmin watches are really good sports watches but are proprietary technology, Garmin don't even publish details of which chipset they use.

new Iwatch is out, and this… so much temptations these days…

  • Man this has thrown me. I've got my birthday coming up next month and my wife was going to get me a watch for my birthday and I was planning on getting the Vivoactive 3. I have already been questioning if I should be looking at an Android Wear device instead of a Garmin. Already have a Vivoactive but it has a damaged screen so doesn't respond to half the screen.

Now I have no idea if I should go with the Fenix over the Vivoactive 3 or ….

  • +5

I’ve got the older Fenix 3 and love it. This one is a great buy.

  • Ok guys, please help me here.

I bought the JB Fenix 5 online on Friday @ $499 with Click n Collect (to be collected) via Entertainment Book discounted JB vouchers (5% off).

JB offer Change of Mind refunds for 30 days, so I can presumably receive a full refund &/or a Price Match difference, which I assume will be in store credit/vouchers.

Is there any way to get the $100 difference back into a Credit Card or something other than JB credits?

    • Ask to see if they will refund the difference. If not that use the change of mind refund.

      Unused & Unopened,
      packaging in good
      condition (product
      not faulty) - eg change
      of mind.
      100%
      Refund
      30
      Days
      Excludes Commercial
      Sales

  • Ok, advice required!

So I got Rebel to price match $499 at JBHiFi two days ago, annoying!

I've used it already so returning is now not possible…

Can I buy another one for $399 and then return that unopened product with my $499 receipt?

    Thanks!

    • Do they have a change of mind policy?

      • Yeah within 30 days…

    • I imagine it depends on whether they record the serial number at POS. No harm in having a go, if they don't allow it then just return the newer one

      • +2

FYI - One happy OzBargainer right here… They do not record the serial numbers.

        Plan worked a treat!

    • I have done exactly this with items in the past.

  • -2

Did anyone else think this was a bargain related to broccoli?

  • -1

Correct me if I am wrong, but of all the sports watches out there, isn't Garmin's the only one where you can directly sync to ANT+ device on you bicycle? Or is that function only reserved to the the higher end model 5x (which so far I've not seen much discount for)?

    • +1

Not sure what you mean. ANT+ is a garmin patent used to sync with sensors, many other use it not just Garmin. Most garmin watches support all type of sensors.
With my Garmin fenix 3 i synch with Magellan speed/cadence sensor and with heart rate monitor.

Rebel have started their promo a couple of days earlier in light of this - it should now be scanning at all stores at $399!

    • Sweet! Does Rebel take orders over the phone? Or will they hold stock to pick up?

edit: Also is this just the yellow band, or is black band the same price?

      • +1

Sorry for the late reply - can't take orders over the phone unfortunately, but can hold products for 48hrs for you.

        • We can buy this now in store????!!!

Can you please confirm. If so, that will be amazing!

        • @howard22:

          Confirmed here

        • @howard22: Scans in-store, checked today whilst at work.

  • Apart from Apple pay and music storage and oxygen sensor, is that all the differences between this one and the new one?

    • Which watch are you talking about? Apple Watch or Garmin?

      • sorry this watch and the fenix 5 plus

Confirmed My Sis bought one this morning. Sales Manager was adamant that the best he could do was price match JB.

I told her to ask him Kindly to scan it, he did so reluctantly scanning the black one first and giving it the see full price, she said no the yellow one, scanned hmmm What do you know $399.00

Red faces apologies and the guy was shaking so much after being such an idiot about it, he could hardly complete the sale process.

Anyway she bought it and the so called manager learned that Ozbargainers know more than them at times.

    Thanks for the input all

    • I think i'll go buy 1 tomorrow :D

Been looking for a sports watch that can do the basic live GPS tracking for my runs and cycling :D

  • This watch is reported to have serious GPS issues.

Bought the rebel gift cards for 10% off through entertainment book, making this watch $360. Bargain!

    • How long did the gift cards take to come through?

      • Instant today. Have taken a day previously. Though once they were pending on a Saturday, i rang them up to speed it along and they sent them immediately no issues.

        • +1

Same here, bought and used online today and also got $13 using cashback.

        • @nodo: Nice. I thought there was a cap on the number of gift cards/vouchers you could use online? Maybe they changed that.

    • so you can buy 4x $100 of gift cards and use all 4 at once for one payment?

      • Yep, that's exactly what I did today. No problem at all.

        • hmmm, sadly I could only use 3 during my online purchase, not sure if they corrected it…

        • +1

@thomaschan: yeah sorry, i was talking about using 4x vouchers in person.

  • They had the discounted price on display today already. The guy said they've been very popular today! Haha OzB word is out!

  • -1

    why not online same price

    • Dunno but the sale officially starts tomorrow so maybe that's why.

  • Regarding online price - I would imagine it's been loaded to start tomorrow so you should see that come through at midnight.

On top of this, we'll have the black bands on sale for $49 (save $20) starting tomorrow online and in selected stores (not all stores will have stock so best call to check your closest stockist).

Sorry late post, i was busy playing with my new awesome watch. I received mine monday morning in sydney at 9:00am the new price tag was already on the display for $399. I used after pay and will have 4 payments of $99.75 every 2 weeks. amazing deal, i was holding out for this one and was hoping it was true because i was in store to buy the $499 last Friday until someone posted rebel will have it for $399, so i had until this wednesday to wait until the $499 sale was over.
Thanks for the sweet deal, you are a legend.

  • I tried buying many times online. I get this at checkout after I press Place order:
Items in your cart are not available.

    • Worked after 50 mins of trying.

  • This deal is now live at rebel website. Good luck everyone!

    • Thanks, will update the deal link to the store now!

  • Thanks for this deal - I have bought one online

  • Thanks for the post. I bought one yesterday in store.

  • Cheers OP, purchased one this morning in Perth for $360 by using the discounted RebelSport vouchers from the Entertainment book. Great deal.

  • Thank OP. 10% off gift cards plus 3.5% cashrewards = 363.60 - 13.96 = 349.64.

    Absolute bargain.

    • hi @anat, can I check if you made the purchase online or in person?

      • Must be online to earn cashrewards I believe.

      • +1

        Online! Instore pickup.

  • -3

    Paid $99 for mine

    • How'd you manage that? Is that through one of the health insurances or something?

    • im also curious how.

  • +1
  • Ordered one with the $150 voucher I got with the TV I bought from Harvey Norman. My original Vivoactive still does everything I want and it's been really good, but this seems a reasonable price for an upgrade. Newer model just has things I won't use.

  • +1

Has anyone found a good replacement band deal?

  • +1

Cheers, op - stumbled across this at Rebel Sunshine Plaza and this bargain was one of the first hits in a quick Google search. Not interested in the music or Garmin Pay so this is a perfect deal to get features I want without stuff I don't.
