i love Hori controllers for retro consoles but seriously I cannot flaw the standard ps4 controller from Sony. Its perfect.

    • Surely your thumbs say differently.

I'm with Chingy213. The XBox controller, while good, just doesn't feel as comfortable as the DualShock. Which is why on PC, I use the Logitech one that had the same config as the DualShock.

As an owner of both, the Xbox only has one real advantage over the PS4 and that's the controller. The PS4 controller was a huge improvement over the PS3 but still feels slightly awkward and cramped in the hand.
Then you have the elite controller which is hands down the best controller I've ever used. If only there was some good exclusive games to use it for…

        • @baz3189: Everyone is different, and it's great that we have different controllers. My sister prefers the XBox controller config, and I prefer the DualShock. Lucky for me, I don't get cramping on either one.

I'd like to try the Steam controller though.

@baz3189: It depends on the size of your hands.

I can totally see people preferring the Xbox controller's size. The PS4 controller is smaller and made by the Japanese with smaller hands. When MS launched that massive Duke controller for the OG Xbox, they had to redesign a smaller version for Japan because that thing would have been laughed at.

The trigger placement don't feel right for me on the X1 controller. It makes it tilt forward slightly.

I hate the Xbox analogue controller layout. I know why it should be better, but it just isn't for me.

Controllers should all be forced to be standard protocol or at least open source. PS4 should be usable in Xbox and vice versa. If the manufacturers think theirs is the best then they should have no fear. So prove it!

    • Longer battery life is the only way I can see it improved.

Analog stick placement would be a big improvement also.

        • I prefer the stick where it is.

As a 2D platformer and fighting game player, I don't like offset sticks.

    • i find the ps4 controller guilty of not being a xbox controller. I got a Nacon PS4 controller for that reason, it's my default on ps4 and pc now.

    • I'm amazed at how the PS4 controller and Nintendo switch pro controller can be so different yet both so comfortable

Currently listed for the same price on their eBay store. With the code PENNY5/PLUG5 it comes down to $51.27 C&C or an additional $4.95 for delivery.

  • Is there a third party premium controller like this that work for both ps4 and Xbox one s?

You can get something like the cronusmax which allows you to use any controller on any console (pretty much), but it's a bit finicky to go xbox to ps4. My thumbs cannot do the dualshock 4, so being able to use an xbox controller on the ps4 is very nice. Also much cheaper than a scuf vantage.

edit: but to answer your question, not that I know of.

      • Thanks shamowfski. I have tried cronusmax before, but one BIG limitation is that you do need a genuine controller for that console for it to emulate before it works!

It actually takes the device ID from the controller (say ps4 controller) and then emulates that on the say Xbox controller. but in the processes disables the ps4 controller just to enable the Xbox controller to work on that console :(

  • Still waiting for scuf vantage to be released in Aus.

    • Yeah. Paddles are so insanely good, and I want that xbox layout. I have a work meeting in Ireland in November, and am seriously considering having a work mate bring one from the US for me. Unfortunately AUD to USD is so shit right now.

    • Had a look then, compared to the Xbox Elite controller pricing seems …. acceptable but $30 just to add bluetooth seems a bit snakey

  • Thanks OP. I’ll give it a go. I can’t handle the PS4 controllers. The main thing that turns me off using the PS4 is the controllers. I have big meat mallet hands and the PS4 controllers just feel too small and cramped compared to my Xbox controllers.

For this price, it’s worth giving it a shot and seeing if it helps. Worst case, it might make a nice 2nd controller for the Nintendo with my 8Bitdo connector.

  • It looks like the lovechild of an Xbox and ps4 controller

I bought this yesterday so I'll share some thoughts.

It feels cheap. The sticks feel floaty. Triggers have little travel and feel vague. Buttons are a little vague and as well. Also no gyro/accelo so no motion typing.

  • I have this. As someone who prefers the Xbox layout it does the job. I find the dualshock uncomfortable.

The only other one with an xbox layout is the Nacon but that costs $120 and is wired. This is the best wireless option, even though it's a bit cheap feeling.

    ABOMINATION

    BURN IT

    • Yes, but how you really feel about it?

  • Can anybody confirm the built quality of this? I bought a HORI mini in the past and it wasn't very good. Was made with cheap plastic, analogue stick was slippery, andande thing echoes when I hit the buttons.
