Ok now we wait for free $50 credit from Kogan + free shipping via shipster and we have a bargain ladies and gents!

  • I know that's not amazing OMG - but for FreeSync, 35" - even a reasonable resolution (which FreeSync cards could do) - that seems like a heck of a price. Is this thing awful?

It's Kogan-branded, so you get what you pay for, but I wouldn't say it's awful.

    • It's a very low resolution for a 35" ultrawide - it would look fairly pixelated up close. IMO if you want this resolution, the 29" ultrawide screens from LG are cheaper and look sharper.

Also, 75hz isn't really that much better than a standard 60hz screen so it's not wonderful for gaming. Freesync would eliminate screen tearing if you're running a relatively low-end AMD GPU though.

      • Yeah but I mean 1080p and 35" ultrawide, how tall is it? Like 1080p if it's only as tall as a 'normal' 24" monitor? That might actually be a half ok DPI. Plus lets you run higher frames.

        Resolution isn't everything (within reason)

that's a weird way of measuring display

just get the pixels 2560x1080 divide by 35"
compare it to 1920x1080 divide by 24"

        • @phunkydude: Honestly, I just couldn't be bothered doing the maths :)

Here we go, the height is barely any taller, so technically, the DPI isn't going to be too bad, vs a 24"

      • 29" UW is just too short to me

        each to their own

        • Yep, you need at least 34” to get the benefit of an ultrawide monitor.

    • It all comes to down what you need.

I’ve got an LG 34” ultrawide (not curved) and use it for web, docs and the odd graphic design. For these purposes, the “low” res is fine.

If I was a gamer, photographer or working as a designer then a higher res is a necessity.

Flat screen utrawides can make you feel like you’re watching tennis side on - it can be lots of left then right head turning. If I had the budget I would’ve gone for a curved screen to lessen the tennis effect.

75hz is not quite gaming quality on speed if you play competitive real time games like Overwatch. 144hz is considered to be the standard for these type of games.

I have only recently changed from a 60hz to 144hz screen and the difference is night and day. I could not go back to a 60hz screen. I used to subscribe to the human eyes can’t see past 60 frames per second theory - but boy was I wrong!

If you play casually, this screen is fine.

    • 75hz is not quite gaming quality on speed if you play competitive real time games like Overwatch

OK but this is probably one of the worst monitors you could pick for Overwatch specifically because of FOV and a poor choice for competitive gaming generally because of size.

If you play casually, this screen is fine.

I'm not sure why people say this. The same delay occurs whether you're a pro or playing the game for the first time. The pro is the one who has any idea on how to compensate for that whereas the casual player just finds it harder than they otherwise would.

      • FOV does not increase in Overwatch with resolution, aspect ratio (which this monitor has a crapload of widescreen aspect) does drastically improve FOV.

The monitor size - yes but the curved nature would assist in seeing kill feed etc.

I said playing casually is fine as 75hz is still ok speed (most monitors are 60hz) and if your not playing competively why would you care to spend $$$ for speed? Part of the issue is you can’t compensate as easily even as a pro - it’s not the input lag (which should be less than 10ms), it is literally missing frames to gain better accuracy and positioning (and to be frank it’s only in 1–3% of cases but each little bit helps).

  • what happened to the $50 off vouchers? cant seem to find them anymore…(ebay/gumtree etc)

    • Kogan only does these sales from time to time, there are periods they don’t let you put in voucher codes - it’s all planned. If I was to guess they won’t be doing this anytime soon due to lots of people selling their vouchers on eBay.

      • oh ic…thanks frugal!

  • would I see more pixelation coming from a 24" 1080p monitor?

  • A word of caution for those considering.

Though I bought the 144hz version and couldn't be happier, two friends ordered this one one and found it different.

The framing is uneven, and the material is cheaper.

One had quite a few dead pixels on arrival and returned it, the others was fine but the framing was worse, he kept his for the price.

Edit: They have changed the photo's - might be a newer version?

  • What's your thought on https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-34-wqhd-curved-219-ultraw… ?

For a casual gamer (10%) and productivity use (90%) - viewing application logs, Window RDP sessions to multiple VMs, spreadsheets etc

    • Yes, any answer to this would be very helpful.

How many documents can you view side by side?

It would be instead of a dual monitor
