    Hmm tempting.

Still loving my V20's 2nd screen & removable battery. I would love to upgrade to newest model if LG stick with V20 formula. Sigh… :(

Edit: I forgot I no longer have ebay plus, DOH!

    • +18

You just saved $560 by not having ebay plus! Nice return on (lack of) investment there.

    • How's the software support? ;P

    • -1

Open a new eBay plus account with your other eBay ID :)

  • +1

    Does this have wireless charging?

    • Yes. Apparently if you want fast charging, you need a 15W pad. Otherwise 10W should be fine.

  • Do these guys provide tax invoice for TRS?

    • +6

      It's grey stock, so that's a no

      • Will it trigger 10% GST on top of the price since it's grey import?
Also notice that they have Note 9 (128/6gb version) for 1,053.15 with ebay plus (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-9-SM-N96…)

      • +8

I'm actually curious…now that grey stock get charged GST as well, can't we technically get that back via TRS?

        • I believe it would need to be a registered Australian business (ABN) to be able to claim TRS but theses arnt soruced from here so I still don't think they will be able to provide a tax invoice on them

        • Haha we're in the lucky country but not that lucky. The GST is collected by Ebay so no youre not gonna get it back cause you paid the QD instead of Ebay.

        • +1

          That's an excellent point.
We should be campaigning to get the GST back through TRS, on the basis of a level playing field, ie same basis that Gerry Harvey got GST added to grey stock in the first place.
Presumably eBay would have to provide a tax invoice which shows the item with only GST being charged, and we'd use that to get the TRS refund.

      • It's local grey stock according to the location, so should include GST.

        • Yea that's was my understanding, was just wondering if anyone who has purchased from this seller recieved an invoice with gst

        • +1

@krazek: can someone please confirm on Invoice? Can this ( grey import) be used for tax claim or salary sacrifies?

        • +1

I asked the question to QD a few weeks back and they said they are only registered for simple GST…
However i looked up the ABN of the company I was charged for and it seems they have been registered for GST for a long time…

        • @dasher86:thanks mate..then I hope we could use it for tax purpose. When you purchasedd from them, did you give any invoice other than ebay provided one?

        • @EssendonUser:
no. i was told you cannot claim TRS.

        • @dasher86ok thanks mate ..TRS is one part.I was more interested on claiming mobile for work as part of tax return, which actually need a tax invoice. This is where I was confused whether there was any invoice from the seller or not …

        • +1

          @EssendonUser:
Sorry. You should be able to ask for an invoice.
You can always reach out to the seller to confirm. They were very quick to reply.

  • Anyone own the LG V30? There have been reports of the phone being capable of driving the HD650. This is insane as their impedance is rated at 300ohms.

    • +1

I got a impedance adopter for 10 bucks to drive any headphones with active quad dac

      • Do these actually work? I never understood the concept of having such an adaptor. Can $10 really fix a complex electrical design issue?

        • Was this your mini hack? https://imgur.com/a/ahVRK#NWr8CPm

        • yes, they do work. I use it every day and my phone shows High Impedance mode and that's what the adopter is supposed to do

    • +2

Sure it can. My LG G6 drive them fine as did the V20. HiFi DAC rocks.

      • Absolutely ridiculous. I've read that some headfi users have sold off their Chord Mojos and Oppos because the LG V30 is that good. I'd imagine not better but good enough hifi-wise to no longer stack.

        • It's really good. No longer need a PMP

        • @Gharvey Snruff: Do you have issues with the impedance auto-detection feature?

        • My V20 can drive the HD650 no sweat. Hell, it can even drive my Beyerdynamic DT990 600ohm although for soft music, i'd have to crank it to max volume. Any other loud songs is fine at 90% volume. Therefore, I'm assuming the V30 can handle it being the newer model. Long live the V series!

        • I run a Pioneer XDP-300r. Have been seriously considering selling and getting the LG G7 One when it come out. I am impatient however and this is inciting. Would also sell my Pixel and get this.

I really want to know the comparison of the XDP-300 specs vs the LG V30+

        • @Volution: Driving a 600ohm headphone is a far reach for even this phone. I bet your bass gets pretty uncontrolled.

        • @JuliusSeizure:

I believe the DAC is rated to 600ohm

        • @Archaleas: For $500, the V30+ would make a great DAP. For $500 with significantly decreased product support, this would make a poor phone. In contrast, I would imagine Google to continue supporting the Pixel.

        • +1

@JuliusSeizure: good analysis. THis is more for the DAC. the Pioneer xdp-300 is my current DAP however has alot of minor issues testing my OCD. Feel like an upgrate to a single device, with 2tb micro sd card support (albeit non existent) and better UI.

Was looking at running LG V30+ with an additional amp/dac

        • @Gharvey Snruff: Did a bit more reading and came across a guide to keep the V20 perpetually in high impedance mode without root. From what I can understand, LG's Quad DAC tech will switch modes depending on the detected impedance of the headset. A lower impedance headphone means one out of four channels are used, which conserves the phone's battery. A higher impedance headphone will require all four channels. Now to achieve the best sound quality, you want the phone to perpetually be in a high impedance state. Having more channels results in a better signal-to-noise ratio.

          https://imgur.com/a/ahVRK#NWr8CPm

        • @Archaleas: Buying a amp/dac defeats the purpose of LG V30+, which was designed for those who hated stacking. If you are buying a dedicated amp and dac, just run your music from your Pixel.

        • @JuliusSeizure: It will just be low volume.

      • Heard quite a lot about V20 HIFI, like deep bass, however, my Lg G6 has more punchy bass sound which is good but I am more into deep bass music

      • What's the difference between lgs DAC and say the HTC 10s (which I'm currently using and it sounds great)? Is it a significant upgrade? Asking because I am in no way an audiophile but do appreciate this feature.

    • +1

Yep, I've got both the v30 and the hd650s…. They drive them easily, and they sound fantastic!

      • Hopefully LG continues to support the V30 into the medium future. If not, it will be an unbeatable DAP sub-$500. This is assuming it follows the price path of its predecessor.

  • might wait until V40

  • Hmmmm, to upgrade from my LG G6?

    • Tempting

    • I'm not gonna. I'll wait for the V40 at this price.

  • Is G7 Thinq worth that $220 more?

    • +1

other than the spec bump, i'd imagine it would get more/faster updates than the V30+. i was looking at the G7 myself, as the V30+ is a fair bit wider (which imo is worse than having it be taller), but it is a lot more money for a 'minor' updgrade

      • +5

It's LG. It won't get fast updates

      • +1

How dare you not mentioning the notch 😛

        • +1

          it's [CURRENT YEAR], i don't see shapes :D

    • The G7 has a taller screen and uses an IPS LED screen so there isn’t the blue shift when viewed from an angle. The V30 uses OLED and some people have been frustrated by the view angle of the screen for colour stability. Other people don’t mind the view angles. The LG G7 is at the top of my list right now for a replacement to my Samsung S4 Active but the V40 is being released in a couple of weeks. I’m going to see how the dust settles after the V40 is on the market to get the G7 a little cheaper.

      • I'm trying to work out if I should get the G7 as an upgrade from s7 edge but youtube videos shows it'd wide angle camera had shrunk on G7 compare to V30

        • +1

I got the G7 as an upgrade for my S7Edge. I used to think the edge was still good, but the G7 is much better at everything. I have smaller hands as well so the edge was always too wide for me so I didn't want to go to the V30+. The tall and skinny design of the G7 is good for me.

I believe they made the area the wide angle camera covers smaller, but that meant there was less fish eye effect, so works out better imo.

I love using the phone without a case as I love the form factor, so I'm risking it at the moment.

  • +1

and has band 28 and nfc …

  • Damn, tempting if I didn't just upgrade. Fantastic deal.

  • +1

Other than the price I had to pass it on the selfie cam alone. Everything else about the spec is fantastic.

  • Damn it I know this will probably be available for under $500 within a couple of months but I'm tempted to just pull the trigger now.

I've heard it definitely needs a case to protect the screen… any good recommendations?

    • I personally would get a thicker, more rigid case rather than a slim case. People have had their glass casing at the back of the LG V30+ cracked even with a case on. I plan on using the Spigen neohybrid which has been sitting on my desk for several months.

    • Unicorn beetle case

  • -3

Bad seller. I would avoid based on that. They took a return of my Moto Z2 Play as it utterly bricked while ota updating, but refused to refund me based on the headphones and charger not being included with the return. Headphones broke because they were shit and I left the charger somewhere. Accessories being included should have no bearing on warranty return, but they didn't want to hear it. eBay refunded me as soon as I called them with verification they received the broken phone, after probably 20 messages back and forth trying to work it out.

    • Fair enough, originally I was going to disagree but now I think it is unreasonable to expect the customer to hold on to all the original accessories for a warranty defect on the phone.

      • +1

JB flat out didn't care if I returned headphones or charger. Just wanted the V20

        • thats how I got a free usb C charger on my 6P! I love JB's warranty

        • @ImaginarySoldier:

My buddy was returning his broken wireless headphones, but they wanted all the original parts - the case, the box, the cable and the airline headphone adaptor.

I couldn't believe he had them still - I threw mine out ages ago…

        • @Droz: to JB?

    • yeah it's always a risk with these grey importers.
i had a bad experience with the seller 'T-Dimension' a while back with my s7 edge. sent it off for repair under warranty, but when they told me they received it, they just stopped all communication - for 3 bloody months. it was only after i found them on facebook that they answered via chat, and i finally got my phone back a couple weeks afterwards.

the screen was covered in scuffs and a deep cut that wasn't there before; but to their credit the phone actually did work fine (with knox tripped, but that's to be expected).

    • +2

You had a bad experience, that doesn’t make QD a bad seller. They have 99.8% positive feedback. They sell grey stock, everyone here knows that the one downside to buying grey, from any seller, is that you rely on the seller to cover you for any warranty claims, and not the manufacturer. Every single seller of grey phones has their fair share of stories of poor after sales support. Those saving have to come from somewhere.

Your story doesn’t really add up either.

        • +2

Is this the attitude you had when dealing with QD? You broke the headphones, you lost the charger, and I've got no doubt you approached QD completely the wrong way.

Also, I think you may have let some of the truth slip when you said

          they received the broken phone

        • -1

          @aja12: (profanity) off.

        • What I think s/he was trying to say was "Thanks for your response. I can understand that you may not find truth in my story, however I am not at this point in time looking for verification on the facts of what occurred between myself and the seller."

        • @DisabledUser164976: Did you mean to say "As per my earlier comment, I am not looking for a third party to verify my story at this point in time, however will be in touch should I require your services."

  • Hmm, I am on the lookout for a new phone to replace my Nexus 5 which is becoming really slow and can barely run multiple apps. Not sure if I should choose this, the One Plus 6 or something similar in the $500-$700 price range.

    • +4

I'd go LG over the OnePlus 6. Not a fan of Chinese OEMs.

    • +2

I was thinking of buying one of these two back in January and got the v30+ in the end. I do a lot of stuff with my phone and I seriously cant fault it. All the issues people raised are just no big deal, screen is fine and POLED (supports daydream), battery life is great, quad dac great, its a solid reliable phone, dual SIM and 128Gb of space means you dont need an sd card, camera quality is fine and thr wide angle camera is great, video is great and has tracked zoom, no annoying notch, its light and quite small for a 6" phone. I seriously cant fauly it, if I broke mine I would probably buy it again.

      • +1

I echo these comments. Very happy with mine. Very well rounded phone at this price. Using mine on European holiday at present and it highlights the strengths - very good camera and wide angle sensor is so useful (I'm using pixel camera app mostly), battery easily lasts the full day, heaps of storage loaded up with music before I left, dual SIM with easy switching in slide down menu.

        • It's dual Sim I think is 1 Sim + Sdcard it's not individual slots so you can't have two sims + MicroSD….

        • +1

@neonlight: you cant but with 128gb internal storage iys hard to complain

    • -3

Not sure if I should choose this, the One Plus 6

The main reason to choose this phone is it has headphone jack to take advantage of it's allegedly better sounding DAC or amp.

The One Plus 6 has no headphone jack despite 88% of their customers wanting one when they asked.

      • It has a headphone jack.

      • It's the OnePlus 6T that lacks the 3.5mm jack

    • LG V30 is a fantastic phone, would rather than a OP6. Single Bottom firing speakers phones in 2018 should be burned

  • +1

Discounted price of Cloud Silver version has been reduced from $559.64 to $557.09.

  • i’ve go the V20 and it’s a great piece of hardware, only gripe i have is the delays in upgrade to oreo ….should have been march 2018 and there is always a delay …some carriers in US i believe are now updating selected models of the V20 ……

next phone will be an android one phone , either LG if the do an android one or nokia 7 plus.

in regards to the dac …. how many people are ripping or buying music as flac, or just saving off you tube which is 256k mp3 at best.

  • Does this have NFC and band 28?

    • +1

      Yes and Yes

  • It's front camera is a piece of crap though. My G4 front camera is better than that.

It's only the quad dac and wide angle camera as standouts. Otherwise G7 costs more and not much better

  • Damn…Paid $595 last week with the 10% deal from these quys …oh well can't win them all.

  • +1

Can buy 3 of these instead of iphone XS

  • Personally waiting for the announcement of the V40, which is supposed to happen October 4. Looks like it'll have a triple camera setup like the P20, and possibly two front-facing to enable FaceID. Also likely to retain the signature DAC that everyone loves it for, so here's hoping!

    • And twice the price

  • Prices have been increased. Looks like they may have met their quota. Recommend waiting for LG V40 release now (~October) if you didn't snag a deal.

  • Is the bootloader locked / unlocked / unlockable on the LG V30+? LG have historically been pretty poor with software & security updates once the phone is 12 months old, which makes being able to move to a custom ROM extremely useful.

  • Glad I got it last night before the jack. Wonder how long before it will be available for $500 tho
