I have this cable (USB-C to USB-C 2.0). Here is my quick review:

    • As a cable for USB-PD, it is unfortunately sub-par, especially for Macbook Pro laptops. Reason being I have found that it failed to do USB-PD fast charge on occasions (operating on 5V mode whereas Google and Apple cables operate on 12V or above mode). This was checked using ZY1276. Un-plug and re-plug-in the cable fixes the issue when that happens.
    • Overall cable quality is average.
    • Compared to Google and Apple USB-C to USB-C cables, even when this AmazonBasics cable worked in USB-PD mode, it consistently operated on slightly lower voltage and current level compared to Google and Apple cables.

Might be okay for mobile phones, but for laptops/Macbooks/Macbook Pros, I suggest you stick with original cable if you can.

    • You have saved my bucks man!

    • Thanks, that's very helpful. I used one of these for my Nexus 5X (pre bootloop :/) but have not had any demanding uses for it.

      • Most of the time, it worked fine (during my testing). I did test it on a Nexus 5X as well (worked okay, but again, slightly less voltage and current compared to Apple or Google cables). I don't rule out Macbook Pros might be a bit fussy on the cable.

        • @poxy001: idk about that but I would rather go for AmazonBasics, it is Benson recommended and it has above all AU Warranty and guaranteed fast delivery.

        • @Bigboomboom: isn't everything on Amazon au covered by warranty?

Also even if these are approved by Benson. I'd suggest he reads netsurfer post..

Also I ordered these on Monday. Has not even shipped yet.

It has no problem with Macbook (non Pro) and Google Chromebook as per Benson Leung's review. Only go up to 60W though.

Mobile phones and Macbook (non-Pro), if you really want cheap USB-C/USB-C cables, I guess you could go with AmazonBasics.

AmazonBasics cables do use the one piece outer shell type head for USB-C side. That's the type Benson prefers. However, I don't agree that the quality is close to Apple / Google (you can easily tell it's not when you compare them side by side) - even the connectors. Furthermore, the materials used in AmazonBasics USB 3.0 cables are better.

AmazonBasics cable consistently charges at slightly lower voltage and current (and I tested multiple devices). The reason I tested Google cable on Macbook Pro is to rule out Apple giving its own branded cable an unfair advantage (it doesn't (Google cable I tested bested Apple original), but it seems to be more conservative on inferior cables like AmazonBasics). Same goes for Google branded phones and even Xiaomi phones too.

Well that looks like I have enough USB-C to A/C cables for a while with the Blitzwolf and AmazonBasics deal today. Now need more charger so I can have them in every room.
