just make sure you don't get the books on backorder :)

  • Wow… for once they're getting close to bookdepository prices.
Oh well… too little, too late.

They're under administration. Doesn't mean the store will disappear. It just means the administrator will attempt to see if the business is viable. They will still trade as normal until they're declared bankrupt by the receiver I'm pretty sure. So doubt it's too little too late. If they can be competitive good on whoever is running them at the moment.

      • They should blame their misfortune on Greg Norman for his stupid GST-on-import campaign that had raised the awareness of the general public on the ways to avoid paying the huge mark-up for goods in Aussie retail stores.

        • +1

Greg might deserve a fair cop for things but I think you mean Gerry Harvey ;-)

        • That's right, what was I thinking? I was playing golf earlier in the evening and there must have been a cross-wire in my neuron circuit! Thanks for correcting me.

  • If the shops are still trading until then…haha

Seems like the stock will be sold off reeeeeeeeally cheap soon once they close down at the warehouse etc.

Why would u after the gift card debacle!!

    • Because you're buying books, not gift cards?

      • i think he meant the - 1. not accepting gift cards, then 2. you have to spend $xx to get $xx credits from the gift card debacle

    • I agree. Ive been burnt with gift cards for companies in administration. I say hand over the product and then I'll pay. I would be nervous if I paid cash before seeing the product. Sorry. once burnt twice shy

  • I picked up a couple of batman comics. Should've been almost $80, just under $50 and free shipping. I'm happy with that! Early birthday present for me.

Now let's see if I actually get them (I'm actually very sure I will).

  • The book I want needs to be ordered from supplier.

i want 'Egypt World of The Pharaohs' but Schulz and Seidel for uni, bloody sold out everywhere. Found some guy in merrylands on ebay selling a used copy and I offered $30 but I don't think its worth it, because its used and a 2007 publish date. The one on Borders and Angus and Robertson is 2010 and $34.95 new, but will take a few weeks for them to order it for me..

should I do it? I cant find it on book depository. I do need to order 2 books from there though because cant find them on Borders/Angus websites.

  • Ah thanks alot. Maybe it's worth just ordering them on there. I need them fast, I hear book depository can take anywhere from 5 days to 3 weeks to get to you.

I would prefer paperback but seeing as its sold out everywhere might just go for hardback.

EDIT: Ordered. Got all 3 for $75 shipped, pretty good I think.

Yeah, delivery can take anywhere between 1 and 3 weeks from my past ordering experience. Check out the other options at Booko if it's really urgent: http://booko.com.au/books/isbn/9783833160004

  • I placed my order, look forward to receiving them. Until then I will make use of the uploads on the portal. I also borrowed out an older version of the World of the Pharaohs which I have for another 2 weeks or so.

  • Prices too high. Especially ebooks - seriously, that stuff doesn't even require a physical store or staff (personally, I think the very high labour costs here are a big killer to Australian retail, amongst other things - but this should not affect ebooks!). I've been looking at a particular ebook that went for around $20 before Xmas - I checked it again about 6 weeks ago (after I finally got myself an ebook reader) and it had gone up to $28, and now it's up to $36.95 (30% off makes it $25, more or less). Still more than the pre-Xmas price.

So popped over to kobobooks, they have the ebook I wanted for $19.80 and gave new joiners a 35% coupon. Deal done, and I'm happy.
Another stupid thing is the book is by an Australian and I doubt it would have much appeal in overseas markets.

  • hahaha they are going bankrupt btwww!!!!

  • actually they are in administration, which is quite different
