[Pre Order] Koolmate KM55 12V/240V 55 Litre Portable Fridge/Freezer $429 Delivered (RRP $849, Ships 4 October) @ Evakool

30

I've owned 2 Evakool portable fridges - RF60 and FM70. These are good products - they were/are in a full offroad camper trailer that's been up the Tele track, outback, here there everywhere. $399 is a great price. Comparing it to the more expensive models (eg the RF), it's about 20% less efficient. However the big price difference makes up for a lot of extra running costs…

Read down for product blurb:

  • Im looking at buying one to run on battery with no solar,so eficiency is a plus, new to 12v fridge, for Evakool, how many models sits below RF?any model sits above RF?just want to compare price

  • Swing SawaFuji motor?

    • That is only on Engel fridges.

  • doesn't mention which compressor

    • probably a danfoss

I emailed them and the reply was

The compressor in this fridge has been manufactured for Evakool to meet our specifications. We have tested these compressors in various conditions to ensure that their performance, efficiency and reliability is above our standards. We have confidence in these compressors which is why we have backed the fridge with a 2 year warranty.

I think the evakool fridges have a domus compressor, which is sort of a chinese copycat of a danfoss BDF35 compressor. My Brother in law has a domus compressor fridge which works quite well and is very effiencnt but about 3 years in thermostat is misbehaving and freezing stuff. unpluging it for 5 mins each day seems to reset it and its ok.

For $399 it seems like an OK deal. I think if you work off a 3 year life its good.

I think if you can handle the smaller size this is a great deal. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/403989

    • thanks, would you say the more expensive line will have twice the life being double the price?
had look at Evakool site, the most expensiv one states Evakool ek25dc compressor, mod range has danfoss, cheapest one doesn't mention anything re compressor.
power consumption seems not that big difference compare to the $ difference.

      • Yeah I found the Brother in law's one really efficient. I have an old CDF45 which is 49lts or whatever and his was 59lts and the consumption was comparable is not his was better.

I still think if you dont have a bunch of kids, can deal with 1Lt UHT milk and the cold beer in and warm beer out policies the CF40 aC deal is the way to go. Bigger the fridge the more amps hours you have to put in (more draw on batteries). Also there's value in havign the ac jack direct in the fridge too. Those 7A AC/DC apdaters arent cheap and there clunky. Plus its great to cool down and pack the fridge on AC the night before if your going away early in the morning. Or if you just want to get a powered site.

I don't think the compressor really ever lets you down on these cheaper ones, its more the control cicuitry. and theres' no spares if it ain't waeco or evercool.

          Are you a pom?

  • Unclear but in the More Info it states "Second grade warranty terms - 2 Years", so that means these are the seconds with some manufacturing defects, hence the cheap price?
