Planning to buy a 2TB HDD from Officeworks for around $88 and then this bad boy will be my plex server.

On pro rata basis, it's should be $205.20. 😉

If you buy $2,000 worth of gift cards @ 10% off, you get it for FREE!

  • Poor math

    • Poor spelling.

      • Poor me, I can't get no $205.20

      Poor

  • Is this the same as the one that was on sale a couple of days ago?

Also, this post is all kinds of confusing.

    They jack up the price.
Most store would sell for $249, pcmeal sell for $239 and with 15% off it went down to $203.

Best little device to spend money on, streaming with plex is great, 4k hdr run like a dream while my himedia pro 10 is struggling to pass the audio to my avr that lead to unplayable 4k video.

    • It does the same media as a Mi Box tho. You only pay the extra if you want the games

  • Putting 4K aside how does this compare to Nexus Player?

    • Poles apart. My ASUS Nexus (Android TV) died within 12 months of purchase and in meantime this product had been discontinued making it very difficult to have repaired or replaced.
In replacemnt, I bought the Nvidia Shield TV via Amazon US early 2017 and haven't looked back.

So, far extemenely reliable, and is is constantly being kept up-to-date by Nvidia with push notifications. My only gripe is the new Oreo GUI which is an issue directed at Google and not Nvidia. Gradually this is being improved upon with buried features such as restart and screen capture being made accessible once again with the latest updates.

Handle all video formats without issue with streaming from my NAS units. I originally purchased so that I could view Amazon Prime Video (not available in the Google play store due to on-going spat between Amazon, Google and Apple not making access to content on each others platforms and vice versa not making competing devices available either) and Major League Baseball (MLB.TV).

This is still the #1 Android TV device (imho) and although more expensive than the cheap Ýum Cha' "Android TV" boxes (not using Android TV O/s but rather the Andoid o/s for tablet devices… always check, don't take as truth claims of being '"Android TV" on the packing or web-sites… google & check reviews, YouTube etc).

Hi, the ebay link says there's no controller included.

    • correct. there are 2 versions.
      1 with remote
1 with game pad (controller) and remote

      • +1

But the item description says controller included though title is different.

        • Seller has just replied to my message, this unit does not include the gamepad :(

  • Whats shield like with playstation 2 and similar console games?

I have a xiaomi tv box but its a bit laggy

PS2 emulation in general on any Android platform is buggy and slow. The only emulation app that has managed to play some games at a decent speed is DamonPS2 Pro. It's expensive but you have an easy 2 hour refund period to test it out.

Personally I would skip PS2 emulation altogether on Android.

  • anyone else getting a "This code can't be applied to your order" message?

    • Try Futu Online store, that's where I ended up buying from.

      • No good -Same message with this seller also.

        • That's strange, it worked for me just fine. are you using PHOME20 ?

        • +1

          @crypt05ingh: Yeah I am using the PHOME20.
I called eBay and they actually said that the 'shopping-express-clearance' should not work with this code but the Futu_online should - they said they will email me a special code to get the $57 discount (285-57= 228)

  • How does this rate to an Apple TV 4K? I'm currently running Plex off a Mac Mini to an Apple TV (Standard HD), but want to now get the Apple TV 4K. Would the Shield be a better option?

  • Is this better for streaming games over say steamlink? My steamlink is hit and miss, mostly miss in terms of the BLOODY controller being recognized or not.

$236.55 with 5% off and comes with an ASUS controller. Not sure if that particular controller is worth it though.

    • That listing has changed to no longer include the Asus controller.

  • The Nvidia controller is well built and very comfortable to use.
