Panasonic DP-UB420GNK Ultra HD Blu-Ray Player $316 Delivered @ Videopro

Can also be bought for $318 at JB Hi-Fi

I was tossing up between this and the shield but will lean towards this as not only can it play 4k HDR video files over USB/LAN but can play UHD discs as well.

  • So can the Xbox One S, it also has VLC player

    • But the Xbox can't play multi region.

    • This is far better quality.

  • I was debating about getting a dedicated UHD bluray player v/s xbox one s for a while and in the end, I ended up ordering Xbox one s yesterday (1tb 2 controller bundle from EB games on ebay) primarily for the reason that it is also one of the few devices that support dolby atmos for netflix so I don't have to buy another device separately for netflix.

I have no interest in playing any games and only plan to use that as a UHD bluray player.

I fear that missus might have some trouble using xbox controller to control movies so I might as well buy a media remote to keep things easier for her.

  • Also has 2tb recorder
Also u can if lucky get from JB Hi-Fi for $260 I did and so did a mate

  • +5

Don't you think for an extra $2 it would be worth it for local store warranty at JB as opposed to having to send it back to Videopro in Brisbane for warranty?.

I mean for example if you buy it from the local JB and you take it home and but find that it's DOA. You can go straight back to the store the same day and possibly get an over the counter warranty replacement. You couldn't do the same with an online mail order.

    • I bought the Sony UBP-X700 following the same reasoning. When I got it home I discovered that it suffered from a well documented freezing issue; I took it back to JB for a return - no joy: they couldn't replicate it, and wouldn't return it.

I'm not convinced you're necessarily any better off buying local.

      • But you also have to consider that it may be damaged or lost in transit if you ship it back to Videopro (or when/if they ship it back to you).

Also, imagine how frustrated you'd feel if Videopro said the same thing to you as JB, but in an email or over the phone.

      • Well if they can't find any fault then there's nothing they can do. They're not going to return a perfectly good product back to the manufacturer.

      • I hope you can both see that I'm not arguing either of those points - and the comment on shipping is no different for JB's online ordering, surely.

All I'm saying is that I'm seeing less and less reason to pay more at JB than I would for the same items at their online competitors.

        • In this case though it's only a $2 pricing difference. Whoopee
