Where to Purchase Belt Blanks in Australia?

My belt is starting to look a bit tired so I've been thinking of getting the tools and some blanks to knock up a few quality belts of my own.

I'm looking to follow the style of the Tanner Goods belts, does anyone know where I can find belt blanks that fit the following requirements - full grain leather, vegetable tanned, and around 9 Oz leather?

  • Not exactly helpful, I am aware of eBay. Is there a seller that you know of? I've only been able to find belts that fit my criteria from American sellers. There are two sellers on eBay AU but they only sell blanks in natural colour and they're both chinese dropshippers so I don't trust the quality.

You think they might be using fake cows?

      • Maybe it may be cows*.

      • No, I'm worried that they use toxic chemicals during the tanning process and low quality hides.

It's China so really anything goes, but the fact that the only supporting evidence comes from PETA makes me disbelieve the whole thing.

It is unknown how much of each year’s total might be dog or cat leather.

I mean…. that's a cheap rhetorical device because you can replace "dog or cat leather" with "fluffy panda or koala leather" and the sentence would still be 100% factual, and just as useless.

But I do agree with wanting reliable sourcing for your leather, especially if you're wanting full grain vegetable tanned leather.
